  1. As for my 01 GS300, I recall the original battery was made by Matsushi ta. The manual does not mention the capacity nor the size of the battery. You need to ask Lexus. They have a table showing the dimensions and the capacity. The replacement battery I got from Lexus last year is with a Toyota label. I've never had problems connecting and disconnecting the battery myself. The memory of the radio stations and the steering/seat position will be erased. Other than that no inconveniences.
  2. Could be a) bad alternator cable contact with the battery (or the cable is not in contact with the battery at all), b ) alternator problems (battery is not charged at all, when the engine is running), c) faulty battery
  3. Mine was originally equipped with P6000. They lasted for over 65,000 miles. I replaced the Pirellis with Turanza ER300. Very pleased with the Bridgestone, which are less noisy and handle very well in both dry and wet.
  4. Mk2 was never tested by NCAP. It was tested, however, in the US (IIHS). It was among the best in its class, although not the best. http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=118 http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=346 http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?l=1...489&s=12671 Mk3 got the highest score in NCAP at the time of the test, and is still among the best. As for Mk1, it looks rather average according to its 1995 test by NHTSA. http://www.carfax.com/car_safety/ratings/S...S#SARcrashNHTSA
  5. Not many consider IS, LS or SC as alternatives to GS. Rather XF, 5 series or E class, which are more or less same size. BTW, LS460 is reported to go as well....
  6. Lexus UK is no longer offering GS460. Reports suggest even the GS300 could have to go. Anyone missing the V8? Can still get privately imported left-hand driven GS460 from Europe... but who knows for how long. For me the hybrid is still not developed enough. The boot is way too small! Even in the standard model the boot is small compared to the competition, the one in GS450h is simply not acceptable. I also find the V8 a true must for Lexus' corporate image in this class. If only it were a touch quicker than the hybrid... If one is looking for a V8, Lexus has nothing, hence many will opt to buy Jaguar, BMW or Mercedes instead. Even if no more than 5-10% of the buyers belong to this category, it will be many souls and pounds lost in the Lexus camp... after all it's not always all about avoiding carbon taxes or congestion charges.....
