  1. Was driving home the other day when all of a sudden I notice the brake warning light come on, when I parked I noticed there was fluid dripping from the rear, where it is leaking there is no chance it could be from the flexible line and indeed looks like it might be coming from the main line. How much of an arse is this to do and how much would a garage likely charge me? Ty
  2. Have you checked that the remote central locking switch to the left of the steering wheel is set to on?
  3. When you say the cd player looks knackered? When I got mine it looked the same, with a missing cartridge too, I just found a spare one on ebay for about a fiver and it worked fine, if you pay attention and remember to put the cd's in upside down Always worth going down the spare cartridge route first before shelling out for a new unit. Also forgot to mention my aerial was also knackered, just purchased a replacement mast for £30 from the dealer. Its a 2 person job to install as someone has to sit in the car holding buttons down on the radio. as long as you can hear the motor when turning the radio on or off a replacement mast should do the trick.
  4. Finally sorted it! Turned out the brushes in the motor after 12 years had finally worn out, the remaining fragment from one of the three brushes had then jammed against one of the rotor contacts breaking it loose and making it unservicable. £40 later on a second hand motor got it working again. The whole unit is not as well designed as I hoped and does not make it easy to remove and replace the motor, I should also add that there are infact 2 motors, one to run the wipers and the other to park them. Removing the motor from the unit requires a hammer and removing the wiper blades and arms from the unit require some elbow grease if they have been put on tight. For all those looking to attempt this: Remove wiper blades and then arms. Remove plastic trim from both sides. Undo 4 bolts holding unit in place, making sure to remember that 1 out of the 4 has a round sleeve and not an oval one. Remove cable ties. Use a socket/spanner to rotate motor assembly bolt to give access to the 3 screws holding motor in place. Dont undo screws yet. Undo that bolt. Undo the 3 screws. Use hammer to seperate motor assembly from arm. When putting it all back together, remember to turn the wipers on and then off prior to reattaching the wipers or the arms so that the motor goes back to the parked position. Install the wipers in the parked position. And I believe thats it!
  5. Hmmm, yeah checked the fuse, which is fine tho obviously it wouldnt twitch if the fuse was gone, not looking forward to taking it apart tho as the wiring is well routed and difficult to get to.
  6. Was driving in the pouring rain when suddenly my wipers just stop! the wipers twitch slightly when I move the position to fast but other wise nothing? What could the problem be?
  7. For anyone out there thinking of changing the bushes on the rear trailing arm, I can save you alot of aggravation and discomfort by recommending you use an angle grinder to remove the bolts! I tried a 3ft breaker bar, a nut splitter and lots of wd40. All of them were absolute crap and did nothing but give me sore arms and a numb arse from sitting on cold concrete. The angle grinder on the other hand went throgh like butter and could have saved me alot of bother had I invested in one sooner. Also found that a halfords 33mm impact socket is great at removing the larger of the two bushes. Ty
  8. I have a 94' LS400 and am getting a 'clunk' noise at the rear of the car when I release the brake , it is most noticable when slowing down at a junction and then suddenly releasing the brake to accelerate. Most annoying!
  9. Im thinking of buying an early LS400 and would like an idea on the running costs over the course of the year, service costs etc and things to look out for and the cost of a new set of tires. Having been reading up on the car it seems the power steering pump can be troublesome and usually takes the alternator with it, is this a very common thing and at about what age do they go? Any help appreciated
