  1. No joke, but thanks for the reply. I am just confused by the specs sheet...
  2. For the first time as a car owner I am faced with the need to buy winter tires. My current "summer" weather tires are the OEM tires that came with the car, DUNLOP SPORTMAXX 215/45ZR17. My Lexus IS200 specs sheet states the car can also be fitted with 205/55R16 tires. Given the price difference between low profile winter tires and normal profile winter tires, I am thinking to go for the 16" tires but have some questions I hope some of you can clarify for me: 1) Can I mount 205/55R16 winter tires in my current 17" alloy wheels? Or do I need to buy 4 new 16" wheels? 2) Is it advisable to buy separate wheels (regardless the size of the tires) for winter tires? I have read that the process of mounting and dismounting tires and fitting them in the wheels usually damages the tires and scratches the wheels. 3) How is the performance of all weather tires (M+S) in "summer" weather? Does having all weather tires reduce fuel efficiency in "summer" months? Thank you!
  3. Thank you to all of you that replied! I got the tape adapter after getting burnt with a "reputable" FM transmitter, a Belkin Tune Cast Auto specially designed for the Ipod. Spend €55 in it and it won't properly work, plus no chance of returning it. There are way to many radio stations in my area, so finding an empty frequency is next to impossible, and if I do, then you lose it after driving a couple of miles. Like some one pointed out, before going for the GROM adapter, I wanted to try a cheaper solution, the tape adapter. And I have to say I thought I had hit jackpot with it the first time I plugged it in. The sound was very good, much better than the FM transmitter, but then came the bad surprise, the radio unit keeps spitting the adapter and it gets to be too annoying. I will try what someone said about the turning wheel in the adapter, and if that is not it, then I will have to go with the GROM.
  4. Hello, I bought a tape adapter to be able to connect my Ipod via the tape deck in the IS200 car stereo. The sounds I get is fairly good, actually much better than using a FM transmitter, but the problem is, the tape deck will spit the tape adapter randomly. It will be working fine and suddenly, it tries to switch sides in the tape and spits the adapter. Any idea how to resolve this issue? Many thanks!
  5. Like someone suggested, I think I am going to stick to my IS200 for the time being and suck it up with the gasoline cost. The price the dealer is willing to give me in the IS200 is way to low. I understand his position for the low offer, but the car has not let me down once in 8 years, and rather than getting burnt with the IS220D, I am going to ride my IS200 for some more time. Right now it has 104K, apart from the normal 15/30K oil change and full inspections, should I expect any major mechanical maintenance costs in the next 60K? PD. I am living in continental Europe, so those numbers represent kms not miles.
  6. Thank you to all of you that answered. I am going to look into the IS250 automatic as someone suggested; I would really like to continue driving an IS...
  7. Hello, I am torn trying to decide if I should trade in my 2002 IS200 (104K on it) for a 2007 IS220d (65K on it). My IS200 has given me zero problems in the last 8 years (talk about reliability). All I had done in the car was to change the oil regularly and do the required inspections/maintenance. Now I am faced with the situation of having to drive almost 100 miles each day, and the IS200 fuel bill at month's end is rather high, so I am on the market for a diesel car. I was seriously thinking to trade in my car as part of the payment on a 2007 IS220d. I love the IS looks and interior, but I am concerned with the 220d being the first Lexus car with a diesel engine. Reading some of the comments in the forum regarding issues with poor MPG performance, faulty 5th injector, dashboard rattling noises, etc; all that negative info has scared me into going forward with the deal. I was hoping some other forum members who have had experience with both cars and could give me some feedback regarding if they are happy with the IS220d. Many thanks in advance to all that respond!
  8. Hello, I have a 2002 Lexus IS 200 with approx 70K miles on it. Lately, I have been noticing a soft rattling noise coming from the area around the gearbox (knob). The noise is mostly noticeable on 1st and 2nd gear, specially at low speeds. I suspect it is the shifting stick/knob because if I keep holding it in my hand after shifting, then the noise is gone. Any ideas what it could be? Many thanks to all that respond!
  9. Hello, I live in Germany, I have a 2002 IS200 with beige Alcantara leather seats. The leather in the driver's seat is getting pretty worn out and I would like to replace it. I have tried in vain searching for sites that would sell the OEM leather cover. Does anyone know of a place/site to get it? Many thanks in advance to all that respond. Cheers! Dan
