  1. Had a 4 wheel alignment at Lexus Reading, cost me £60 (inc. VAT). I assume that was the 'full works' because they adjusted the camber and toe?
  2. Took the car back to the workshop today.... sods law it was a really sunny so it was impossible to see the blend. I will have to double check in the morning when it's not so bright to make sure I'm not seeing things (and take a picture if the camera can cope)!!!
  3. True... I went out to the car park to take a picture.... however in bright sunlight it's impossible to see the blend! I'll see what the workshop has to say because I definitely saw it this morning in overcast conditions. I did however spot several blemishes in the paintwork - so I'll definitely take that up with them.
  4. To cut a long story short - I had to get my door panel resprayed (IS 200 - Silver)... I looked closely at the repair this morning and I could see the blending of the new paint (along the wing). Only in certain lighting conditions is this noticeable - my question is whether or not I should expect a perfect blend / match? Before you ask the workshop an Insurance approved one and I didn't notice this when I picked it up yesterday because it was raining. I've spoken to the workshop this morning and I'm taking it in again for them to look at. I would be interested in anyone else's opinion on this - to confirm if my expectations are too high or a case of poor workmanship?
  5. Headley Tyres are good - about to use them again! Got a quote for Dunlop Sp9000's - 79.90 inc VAT + fitting (16") - but I think I'll go for some Bridgestones....
  6. I've used www.evalet.com before for a kerbed wheel - they did a good job (cost about £50). Although I've had a bad experience with them recently with a 'Smart Repair' on my paintwork, so long as you're only getting the wheels done - you'll be ok ;)
  7. I must admit from past experience I was expecting £250-300 to repair it. (For £600 I'd expect a brand new door and not just a coat of paint)!
  8. I normally get 340 miles on a full tank (driving with a heavy right foot). I tried driving without the aircon and I get about an extra 20-30 miles per tank.
  9. Chased up Evalet.com again today. They agreed to give me a full refund. It's a known issue with colour matching Platinum Ice - so if you have any Smart Repairs done on your paint work you have been warned!!
  10. To cut a long story short.... I'm getting my door panel re-sprayed through insurance. My preference is to a Lexus approved body shop, ie Bracknell - Toyota. The insurance approved repair is Apex Vehicle Repair in Hurst. If I went through them it would be less hassle for me, however I'm wary of how difficult it is to colour match Platinum Ice. Has anyone dealt with Apex before, or had any similiar colour matching problems with non-approved Lexus bodyshops?
  11. Just got a quote from a Toyota body shop.... over £600 to fix the problem. Looks like one for the insurance.
  12. The technician turned up this morning and said there was nothing more he could do about the colour, ie they can't match Platinum Ice. Left messages for his boss to call me about a refund (which he agreed previously if the problem couldn't be sorted) - strangely enough he's proving elusive at the moment. If I don't get a refund I would stay away from Evalet.com for any minor paint repairs.
  13. Some (I presume kids) threw some eggs at my car while I was driving along a dual carriage way. It caused chipping in the paintwork on the driver side door covering an area of an egg (and so light scratches leading off). I thought I'd use E-valet to repair the damage (I'd seen the work they'd done before on a colleague's car and it was impressive). Unfortunately they haven't done a good job in matching / blending the repair. It was only after the technician had left that I was able to see my car side on from a reasonable distance I noticed the problem. I'm waiting to hear back from them as to what they intend to do.... watch this space.
  14. Try this: http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=94535 Does the same thing (plus DVD-RAM support) for a lot less money.
  15. I'm more than happy with mine.... except for the crappy 16" wheels. I don't think the boot space is all that great with the seats up... Having said that... fold them down and you're in business.
  16. For a £100 - that's cheap.... can't really go wrong there (so long as it works)!!! :D
  17. It's always a good idea to have the best of both worlds if you can. The only issue I've had with DVD-R writers and compatibility with DVD players is with the quality of media you use. From personal experience, the more you spend on a blank DVD-R the more reliable / compatible it will be. Spend less than 95p + per disc and you'd be lucky to find it works on other DVD players or older DVD-ROM drives too. The only real benefit I can see with a DVD+RW on your PC is if you want to edit DVD+RW discs written by a DVD+RW 'video' recorder. If you go for the Panasonic and want to backup your PC data - stick with DVD-RAM, it's a lot faster and robust than -/+RW although the media is more expensive. DVD-R media is generally a lot cheaper and they will playback your backed up discs on most DVD players and games on a PS2 For more information on media : Blank Media Shop You might also want to search the web for any reviews for this particular DVD writer. I knew when Sony first released it's -/+RW writer it had compatibility issues a lot of blank media.
  18. Just checked.... all the same sized rubber on the IS200 Sport X front 'n back. :)
  19. Mac - when I picked up my car from Lexus Reading, the salesman warned me that inside edges on the IS200 (and presumably the IS300 too) was prone to wear on the inside edge. He recommended swapping the tyres around every 6,000 to even it out?! Not quite sure if this is helpful advice or @ss covering in case I queried it later. I would be interested to know how you get on with Reading Lexus!!
  20. I agree... the 16" wheels are naff Dealer wouldn't do me any deals about upgrading them to 17" when I was haggling... advised me to change the alloys when I needed to change the tyres! Anyway... the only consolation are that the 16" wheel maybe less prone to corrosion, can any confirm / deny this?!!
  21. Interesting stuff.... I wish I knew about this before I bought my motor!! Nevermind... I'll know for next time.... Just one thing I've never seen mentioned in these forums is 'rust proofing' Japanese imported cars? I was looking into an imported FTO a while ago and did a load of research on the web. All the sites mentioned the usual stuff of the fog light, speedo and even checking the tyres. However they also mentioned having the underside of the car treated against rust / corrosion... apparently EU cars are built with this in mind but not Japanese cars? Does this only apply to FTO's, all Japanese sourced cars or am I talking cr@p?!!
  22. I'd pass on all the details you have to the Police to follow up.... If she's got a PAYT mobile and never registered - then it's almost impossible for the anyone (inc. the phone operator) to trace the owner.... although there are ways... but I don't think the Police would go to this trouble in this case! I've not tried calling the number myself... however if she's dis-connected the number, chances are she's on a contract phone and asked the phone operator to change / bar her number - so there's some hope :winky:
  23. I went for the exterior and interior treatment... so I'm pretty sure it covered the wheels too. <_< Yep... the wheels were easy to clean, the hardest bit was bending down on my knees to reach them! My last car (VW Polo :P ) that I had for 6 years, never once treated the alloys.... and it was never a problem cleaning then! So I very much doubt Supaguard made much (if any) difference. I'm just hoping the 16" alloys aren't a prone to corrosion as the 17" are. Again with my old car (that I owned from new), the paint work was never treated and it still looked nice and shiny after several years. Just required a decent coat of wax every 4-6 months. (Highly recommend Auto Glym products esp. the Shampoo and Wax). Would I have the Supaguard treatment again on a new car? It depends, if I had a garage / driveway so that I could clean it regularly then no, a bit of wax and elbow grease is far cheaper! Since where I'm living at the moment it's impractical to wash the car (and I can't be @rsed to go to the local jet wash) it's well worth it because... 1) Don't have to wax it for 3 years (watch this space)! 2) It definitely makes a difference when wiping down the car after a rinse! :zee: (A mate said the same thing with his treated MR2 and regrets not doing the same to his IS200..... and he religiously washes his car every week )!!!!
  24. Bought my car brand new 6 weeks ago with Supaguard treatment - I was sold on the idea of not having to wax / polish the bugger for 3 years! Washed the car yesterday for the first time, and here's my verdict... 1. Still had to scrub hard to remove the dead bugs from the bumper/bonnet, not really surpising as they had been dried on for a few weeks!! 2. After I rinsed off the shampoo, it was no effort at all wiping the car down without leaving water marks (even when the sun had evaporated most of it). 3. Showroom finish at the end... but that's what I expected after spending the extra money on it :duh: ?!!! If you're a lazy @ss like me... it does save some time and effort in washing the car - especially if you're used to waxing it. :D Another top tip.... Platinum Ice is excellent hiding the dirt on the car... it's just the black brake dust covered wheels that give it away! :winky:
