  1. Noticed that the drivers side window has vertical scratches on it -after washing. As the car was going iun for service I asked the dealer to look at it and see if it could be repaired under warranty- They checked the window and the outside trim and agreed that both needed replacing, but refused to do this under Warranty. The cause thay stated was the outside Trim has broken down (although I can't see anything). They refused to fix under Warranty as 'a trim part is not a warrantable item'. Feel a little cheesed to say the least. They have given me a quote for £240. If the trim also does a mechanical job of stopping grit grinding on the window during the operation, can this be classed as a mechanical part? If so is it then warrantable - any thoughts? Clutching at straws really - Just don't agree with a bill for £240 for mechanical damage that was not my fault.

  3. If under warranty take it into the dealer - I had a rattle from the off side dash board and aloud crack from the centre of the dashboard. Dealer seemed to know all about the problems and got the car back with no rattles -can hear the tyre road noise now though
  4. I have a 220D sport which happily goes into 6th gear @50 mph. If I set the cruise at 70 I get around 42 to 44 mpg. Set it at 80mph and it drops to 36-38mpg (revs are at around 2300rpm). My advice is not applicaple for sport model with shorter gearbox, of course. still got higher mpg in 6th on mine - keep the revs below 2k and the return always seems to be at least 1 to mpg more than 5th gear (although you need a clear road - otherwise you'll be in 5th as you go under 65mph)
  5. Just reading about the smokey diesels - before I go and see the local dealers - Mine is a 07 plate - with 22k on it. I can boot it take it easy any type of driving and there is no smoke at all, but if I sit in traffic for any length of time (engine fully up to temp) and then need to load the engine (i.e pull out into fast traffic - normal road conditions). There is a plume of smoke (white) from 1st gear right thro' to 4th gear as I accelerate - this is during anything from half throttle to full throttle. It then tends to smoke again after I next pull away again. I've checke dthe engine oil and it is still on max on the dipstick. I had similar smoke on an old petrol car - but that was back pressure forcing past the piston rings (engine on 200k+) I can't believe a 22k engine can have this problem + it's fine on any other type of journey and when just ticking over. Has anybody any advice or knows what's causing the smoke? I'm going to speak to the dealer as the car is still under warranty - but a little unsure how to show them the problem.
  6. News and Update - Having picked up my IS220d at the end of Nov (07 plate). I was disturbed to find a rattle from the dahboard (glovebox area) and an occasional snap/bang sound from the centre of the dash. How the last owner could stand it is beyond me. I read a few forum topics about these problems and called the dealer. Still not expecting a great response, I was pleased to hear they would look at both problems staright away. 2 Days later, I picked the car up and all noises have gone. - Well pleased with the car now. A big Thanks to Lexus Teeside. Only real concern is - if these are known problems (the 59 plate courtesy car had a similar rattle), why don't Lexus just recall all cars to fix the dashboard issues. It must be better than having disgruntled owners who complain about the brand and their rattly dashboards ? Any views?
  7. Diesel to have their merits - whether it be Lexus BMW Audi Merc etc. And it is clear BMW have a much more refimed oil burner than Lexus (and the Audi's and the Merc's) - I traded my 2.0d Efficient Dynamics in recently and their is no question the Beemer is a better engine (much more refined). But take etheir fuel consumption figure with a huge mountain of salt - The Beemer I had was listed as 58mpg combined - I averaged (mostly on A-roads and out of town) - 44mpg. The Lexus (I believe) is between 46 and 48 combined and I achieve 42 mpg, doing the same run, so 2 mpg worse than the BMW - but shown in the figures as nearly 12mpg difference. The BMW although not a poor car to drive by any standards, does not have the luxury of the Lexus (the run flats - which I believe are now being fitted to all models) are not a comfort (although you do become a skilled driver steering madly through the potholes) - and they are also more expensive (BMW do offer you insurance on them though) I also heard problems regarding the particulate filters on cars that were being used on short journeys (sound familar) The Lexus model is not far behind the Beemer and only needs a small amount of R&D on the engine to be matching the what is supposed to be 'top of the Engine class' SO why shouldn't Lexus take note and put their efforts into both Hybrid and oil burners.
  8. After a disappointing Friday and weekend - The car was not ready and was still in the body shop - (three days for alloy cleanup - two minor kerbing marks to remove on two wheels), just had the phone call it it will be ready today. Fingers crossed I'll be picking it up tonight.
  9. It's an earlier model - 2007 16k on the clock
  10. Hi all, New member here - Hopefully driving a IS220D tomoorow - gonna be picking it up tomorrow pm from Lexus teeside. Trading in my BMW 120D M-Sport (3 door), which I do enjoy (but has limitations), and going for a more refined/family friendly motor (growing family) I read a few forum topics on the car (long gear ratios etc.), but she drove wonderful on the test drive - so all excited at the moment (just like Xmas).
