  1. Hi my take on this topic ,I have been servicing my car for a few years now ,used brembo pads on the last 2 sets ,no problems at all but I find them dusty ,this time I have gone for Textar as I have seen good reports but not done many miles on these yet due to the current fiasco ;Textar available front £30 rear £26 Ebay ; Tyres ,as they say you pays your money ,takes your choice ! I currently run Asymmetric 3 all round good tyre very quiet (you notice this more with the hood down ) for me much better than either the Dunlops or Bridgestones used previously Dave
  2. Yes I like that ;my ambition is to find some IT computer wizz kids ,broken down at the side of the road ,I can fix this get out; close doors; wait open doors get in car ;close doors turn on Result😀 Dave
  3. Hi I think that was a real result ; I do all my own servicing but I have reservations about the folding roof ;I think it would be a real problem to diagnose ,problems are usually based around limit switches I have not heard of a reset before .The price for 3 services and the MOT s is excellent value I would consider that myself ,you say older Lexus ,did they say what the cut off point was my 250C is 10 years old in march Dave
  4. Hi it should come off without too much of a problem ,make sure you save all the fittings to make sale easier.I was also looking at fitting one for a bike rack but even fitting it myself it was an expensive option .It would be cheaper sourcing one second hand so if you do go down this route post info on here and I will have a punt Cheers Dave
  5. HI as stated mechanically the convertible is the same as the saloon. The 250c was only available from 2009 and in SEL trim with all the bells and whistles .Make sure all these work as there are a lot of electrics on this car, check the roof functions correctly and take a good test drive to check for rattles etc .To make life easier you really need 2 keys and a full manual/book pack to help you sort navigation and CD player etc.I would think this time of the year is a good time as the prices usually dip when the sun stops shining. I have had mine for over 5 years and it is a brilliant car ,the only practical downsize is the rear seats are not really suitable for 2 adults over a long distance ,doesn't bother us as we are retired and in normal times the grandchildren love it in the back with the hood down .Good luck with your search and let us know how you get on .Any questions I will help if I can Dave
  6. Hi I think you have bought the Wong one, this is the one for Prius and ct200 I think .The correct good quality item is either SEALEY VS7112 or LASER4880. try 0pie oils for the laser where I got mine when I got my filter or Amazon for the sealey Dave
  7. Hi ,always good advice on here, I have owned my IS 250 for 5 years and I think they are an excellent buy at the present time . I really look after mine and all I have done is routine maintenance ,a very reliable car .Some points I would suggest , the MOT history looks good but it is short so see if you can factor this in ,you really need 2 keys if only 1 is available factor in £300 reduction check the maintainance record ,spark plugs should have been changed at 60,000 miles this is an expensive job if you need to use a dealer .An airbag recall should have been carried out .Everything should work ,carry out a full check on finance outstanding etc and carry out a test drive for a reasonable distance .I,m sure you will enjoy an IS 250 good luck Dave
  8. Hi I also have this problem it annoyed me for ages and I can't find an answer so similar to Steves solution I removed the bulb and said the fuse had blown due to excessive use ,that was over 2 years ago so long forgotten😃
  9. You have done well Steve ;the wheels look good .They are originally from an IS 250C which had an 18 in staggered set up .I have been looking for a set of these without success for a long time ,as my is250 C has a set of GS wheels fitted by the previous owner .Where did you locate them ? Dave
  10. Hi my first port of call would be to get the front wheels balanced ;as that can cause similar problems .The front tyres and wheel alignment can also contribute ,hopefully any wear in linkages will be picked up by a full alignment .I would recommend using a knowledgeable independent with a Hunter machine to set up the alignment ;web site Align my car will have details of feedback and recommendations. There are a lot of tyre places out there with ' all the gear and no idea' so its worth taking time to research Dave
  11. Wow I to am impressed ;as an old timer I only play radio or CD on the system ,I have been playing CD s for the last 5 years and never seen a play list Dave
  12. Hi Gary and welcome to the club ;I'm sure you will enjoy your 250C especially when the sun is shining .I have owned mine for almost 5 years and it is a great car especially for continental holidays ( to be continued when the present fiasco has subsided ) I am afraid I can't be much help to you as I carry out all my own service work ,the only time I visited a dealer was for the airbag recall. It might be worth you checking this has been carried out ,it may have been missed if the car has been away from the main dealer system. With regard to the roof I have not had that problem, the only company I have had recommended is Cayman Autos in Redhill ,I don't know how far you are from them ,they have a good web site worth looking at if you have queries Regards Dave
  13. Hi normski 2 ,good to see you keeping on top of the slide pin issues before they escalate .It seems to be a problem on Lexus/Toyota and Mazda cars .I have recently done the Lexus and am now doing my MX5 .I have decided fit new slide pins to the front of the MX5 due to the rubber sleeve on the pin getting damaged .I purchased some small diameter round brushes ,copper and nylon made by by laser tools they are a great help cleaning out hardened grease etc from the pin housings .2 mins work with a good spray of brake cleaner makes re fitting a doddle with new grease which will not be contaminated with old debris .I don't know if you have done the MX5 rear brakes before ,quite straight forward but the pistons screw in due to the hand brake mechanism and this is made much easier if you have a wind back tool Regards Dave
  14. Hi ,I agree that it is very annoying to find that you have been deceived by a dealer regarding work carried out, this happens even at main dealers who make a large enough mark up as it is .I have come across it on many occasions with different makes over the years which is why as a retired engineer I prefer to carry out all my own servicing on my cars and my families cars The only thing I would say about my experience with Lexus cars bought second hand, I have bought 2 over the years both with a mileage of less than 40 000 ,4 years old and with 4 full Lexus dealer stamps ,in both cases when I challenged the dealers regarding the state of the air cleaner which was filthy and with plenty of rubbish in the box I was told the air cleaner is a change at 40 000 mile item as specified by Lexus in their service schedule and is blown out and Not changed until this mileage is reached.May be this mentality is used also by Toyota ?
  15. Hi as stated I use 0/20 fully synthetic oil in my IS 250 I use OPIE oils linked on this site ,they will sell a kit 7 litres of oil and a filter .Have used them for the last 5 years with no problems excellent service good choice of oils ,I use the shell ,change every 6000 miles no problem recommending this company Stay safe Dave
  16. Hi I can sympathise with the SORN decision during these trying times ,I also have 2 cars both convertible standing idle ,I have decided to SORN my Mazda MX 5 and keep the Lexus ' ready' for use .I can fully service the Mazda while laid up and then maybe swap over and try and find some jobs on the Lexus . Take care out there Dave
  17. Can't fault that regime you can be proud of the results ;love the colour Dave
  18. Hi yes I agree with scudney for the grace note HDD; I asked when I had the airbag recall as this was the only time I have used the Lexus main dealer ( I carry out all my own servicing ) .They quoted £175 for doing the update while they had the car .I declined and bought a TOM TOM for my French holiday for a few pounds more with free updates Dave
  19. Thanks for that gji 25 I will check compatibility I am from a generation looooong before electronic diagnosis ! Dave
  20. Hi Zotto thanks for that info ,I will look round to find a compatable OBD reader Dave
  21. Hi all very interesting but I am not very tech savvy either and use a Apple Mac book as my lap top .Does anyone know a system that works with this Thanks Dave
  22. Hi I have been using this system on holidays for years ,and my wife thinks its great ( she has short arms for the paying in box !! ) When you signed up you will have set up a standing order so the annual fee will be paid automatically and you just carry on year on year .You can check on their web site using your account which gives a breakdown of use plus it will indicate the battery state of the unit .As a guide mine lasted 7 years ,changed last September ;the unit is replaced as the battery is not removable ,service is good prompt replacement; you can also buy extra clips to use the unit in different cars which is handy Dave
  23. Hi personally I would just replace the battery; I find Varta a very good make used them for years .Just bought one from Tayna next day delivery great place .If you need a E23 look on E bay the have that ref on offer 4year warranty £67 inc delivery (offer until 31 Jan) Cheers Dave
  24. Hi as a IS 250C owner I have to agree that this is a nice car but around £6000 too much .This is probably the most sought after colour but hey its 2020 in a couple of weeks and age should be considered not just the mileage .4 years ago I purchased my car ,a few months older than this; SEL spec which I prefer 20,000 miles in a good colour ( metallic blue ) perfect condition for just under £16000 .This was from a Merc dealer who said he would try to sell it as it was far to good to go to auction !! .I know Lexus dealers are expensive but I think this will take time to move Dave
