  1. Hello all, hope all is well. Just asking for advice on a braking problem i`m having on my IS200. Basically the car was fine, running like a dream but it needed some new front discs. I bought a set of Mintex discs and pads from ebay and fitted them myself. I took my time while fitting, cleaned the hub surface off, cleaned as much grime as possible of the caliper, tightened the wheel correctly, etc. Anyway now i get this juddering though the steering wheel when braking gently from around 40mph. If i put the brakes on harder it seems to ease off and also it doesn`t seem to do it all the time (maybe only when it`s warmed up a little). What could be the cause of this? I have read many posts on this issue and the responses have been varied so i thought i`d just ask for advise. The calipers sticking seems to be something that has come up a few times, but the discs don`t seem to be getting hot and i`m able to touch the surface after a drive without losing a layer of skin. Before doing the new discs i had new tyres fitted all round and the wheels where re-furbed, balanced and the tracking/allignment done (about 1 month before). It only seems to have started after changing the front disc/pads. I have just replaced the rear pads to see if that made a difference and it doesn`t seem to have done. Next i`m going to strip down the discs one side at a time and refit. Could it be that the discs just weren`t cast right and are slightly warped, they where sat in the garage for around 8 months before i fitted them. Also after fitting them i wen`t on holiday for a week and they weren`t half rusty when i got back (the inner and outer circumference seem pretty rusty too! Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any good places i could take it in the North-West area. If i have to get new discs fitted, fair enough, i just wan`t my braking smooth again... Regards, Matty
  2. Thanks guys, think i`m gonna go for the Mintex ones, shame they don`t do a Haynes manual for the IS200 it`s allways nice to just read up on the task before getting stuck in. The posts on here by various members are extremely helpful so kudos to anyone who has done one :) Nice 1, Matt
  3. Hello all, have a lexus IS200 Sport for a year now, and am thinking that the front discs and pads need changing. There is a bit of a lip (maybe a couple of mil) on the edge of the disc so i think a new set is in order. Where are the best places to go for a new set of front discs and pads? I will be fitting them with the help of my old man who is just changing the Honda Civic`s rear ones as i type this. Also any tips on the procedure would be great. I don`t really need anything special but if the price difference between some standard ones and a premium branded set is not to great i might go for the better set. Any info on where best to get the bits would be much appreciated. Situated in the north west BTW. Cheers, Matt
  4. I`m not to far from Crewe (bought the car from Biddulph), is the place you go open to anyone? Or anyone know of a decent place in the North-West where this is done, mine don`t look to bad, allthough the inside of the wheels is flaking and when you compare them to the spare (which is pristine) there is quite a difference! Cheers, Matt
  5. Hello all, i`ve only had my Lexus since the summer and was just wondering if there is something i need to check or if the IS200 sport is like this in general. Basically when i get up to motorway speeds the steering feels very light, if i turn it does so with no problem just the feedback doesn`t seem great especially in the wet. Am i just in a transition period having come from front wheel drive cars or is that could be causing it. Recently had an mot and the front tyres had 4mm of tread on each rears had 7mm each would swapping possibly help? Pressures seem ok and had the fronts balanced. Thanks for any advise, Matt
  6. This is something i`ve noticed now it`s coming up to winter, it allways seems worse when there is rain about! Putting the a/c on does clear it up very quickly but as soon as you switch it off the windows (front especially) steam up pretty quick. Might try the washing up liquid thing, isn`t vinegar solution supposed to do a similar thing?
  7. Just thought i`d say hi to everyone. Got me Lexus IS 200 Sport in the summer (51 plate 60K), been great so far, loving it  Here`s a pic of me just after i got it, licking it clean :P (it took ages...)
