  1. if it was mine id keep restarting it and let it run as long as possible , then when it cuts out restart again etc , try to get the engine to come up to normal temperature and let it idle ,, if theres water or ice anywhere it should dry off once it gets up to operating temperature
  2. it could be , on my old 200 the car speedo read 70 when i was actually doing 65 mph - i understand they have to be within 90 percent of accuracy from the factory so worth checking - incidentally my disco reads 70mph at 70 mph on the gps so may of got lucky on this one - post up when you get your winter tyres on,, snow should be back from wednesday onwards and let us know how you get on
  3. if you have or can borrow a tomtom or similar you can check your indicated speed on your speedo against mph on the gps which are usually pretty accurate to get an idea of your actual speeds with your winter tyres on once theyre fitted
  4. windscreens can leak and cause electrical problems. knocking and squealing noises also have been the bain of many an is owners life ( brakes and shocks )
  5. interesting video on winter tyres
  6. i know what you mean , stopping on steep hills with ice underneath and snow on top is still a nervewracking business at times, no problems ploughing forward or turning for me yet but even on a 4x4 as you say tyre choice is so important whiich is why im researching as much as possible to get the right set up for the conditions i face and expect this winter - gonna cost at least £700 i would expect for me
  7. excellent reading, very interesting stuff tbh - as you say even a 4x4 benefits from the right tyres which is the rather expensive purchase im looking into at the moment so your articles were very helpful,,thanks for taking the time to post up
  8. interesting ! - worth noting the 4x4 forums are running threads to see who does the most recoveries of pulling people who have driven off the road into a ditch(or worse) back onto the road ( where vehicle still drivable) - as regards the overtaking 4x4s on snowy back roads its up to the individual but i dont think this is the best piece of driving advice i have ever seen tbh - whatever you drive and whatever your tyres please drive carefully in the snow and if you dont have much experience of being able to move in snowy conditions dont drive like schumacher just because you think a set of winter tyres is going to save you or your car from damage when driven irresponsibly
  9. my snow got pinched overnight ,, hrrmmph
  10. im on a few forums with different cars , got rid of my 200 for now but i wouldnt say this is a cold forum at all - loads of good people and knowledgable advice given out here - especially good for new 200/300 owners as soon as they get the shock that theres no haynes manual to fall back on
  11. might be a good idea,, is yours an auto or manual ?
  12. ive heard rav 4 steel wheels go on an is ?? not sure if thats correct but if so maybe find a cheap set with thinner , deeper tread more winter biased tyres might get you around ,, ive seen ormis pictures of how bad the snow is it does look like most 2wd cars will struggle in those conditions tbh
  13. you asked earlier if it had a lsd ! if its a sport it does - doesnt help much i know ,,,, sorry mate not much can do to help from this end of the country - if its any consolation i only drove my is once in the snow and that was a very short trip - apart from the normal tyre issues etc mine was an auto with no lsd and it was truly horrible in snow,, felt very removed from being in full control of the car partly because of all the electronic assistance cutting in and out i think (abs/tc) - it just felt very bad
  14. aaah i see , all good info,, i live and learn a bit more - lol, you call em whatever you like you paid for em ,, enjoy
  15. oh ormi that looks smart - nearly tempted to pop up for a cuppa - gonna be a seriously hard winter though,, i guess you are used to it up there
  16. oh right, they are hids though and designed to be - i thought they made the whole reflecter especially for the hids hence you get a good clear cut off line as opposed to the diy hid kits which can be sometimes not quite right - either way is a hid a xenon ? - cheers ormi, hows the weather up there ?
  17. i know what you mean its a pain insuring a few cars or swapping around cover etc - only thing id say is that this is just a taster of whats to come,, this lot,ll go away before the real stuff comes so if the lex is bad in this it might be an idea to look for a cheapo 4x4 and some temporary insurance to get you thru end of dec,, beginning of jan when the weather is going to take a real turn for the worse imo
  18. davey in your sig in the impressive list it lists xenons ,,,, surely the 300 has factory HIDs ? (high intensity discharge) - the kind with the purpose built projecter headlamps which cost a fortune and everyone tries to imitate ? surely xenons is underselling a quality HID somewhat
  19. look on the bright side re the mpg - most of us have had the same shock but we were only driving a 2 litre without a very loud pedal or schumacheresque gearchange buttons
  20. looks great waveydavey , i bought mine the nite b4 it snowed last year and couldnt drive it for ages,,,, just made it nicer when i eventually did - yours looks gorgeous though, well done on your choice
  21. stani go out and grab a cheap 4x4 fot the snow and park the lex up somewhere safe where it wont get hit by someone slipping off the road ,, subaru legacy, frontera or an old shogun,,,, grab something like these for about £500 and youll be laughing not worrying
  22. the thing dragging underneath could be the plastic underbody protecter things - ive got a spare set you can have for free if its one of those
  23. lol,,check it out in a years time and everyone will probably be arguing over which ones look the coolest on their lex !!! times change i suppose
