  1. was only joshing ya rory - keep up the goodwork with the road drifting youre right it does make good spectacle - but hey , in the words of hill street blues " lets be careful out there"
  2. we do get icy asda car parks which are often empty at night to try the car out on - (rory struggled in the summer tho !!! - sorry couldnt resist)
  3. parthibian is usually correct - afaik its the 7 series bmw,s that the L on the end denotes long wheelbase on so pretty easy to assume other marques have adopted the same system,, which lexus obviously havent
  4. i bought my lex the night the snow came down bad here- 4th jan last year-knew id have to park it up 4 a while and had a 4x4 as well so that was ok but the snow stayed for ages and i was dying to drive the lexus so when i thought there was enough tarmac showing i took it out ,,,,, briefly,, by the end of my road i knew it was less then pleasant to drive in the snow,, i think all the tc,abs everything was kicking in and doing its stuff but it made it feel even more horrible as i felt a bit removed from feeling the road if you see what i mean ,,, needless to say i turned straight round and used the 4x4 until the thaw - as parthibian says i think socks would be a good thing to have in the boot even if it is just to get you home in an emergency
  5. i had a frontera for the snow last year - went everywhere i wanted , one road i got to was sheet ice and cars crashed in a pile , i helped drag everyone out after digging the ice down to tarmac so i had grip then rather then take a chance i decided not to go that route as didnt want to dig the whole road,,, just as im turning round a couple pulled up in a clio,, popped a set of socks on and went to go up the sheet ice road,, i said you wont make it mate look at all these cars that slid down and crashed ,,, the driver said no worries mate im used to this from the ski slopes and promptly drove straight up the impassable road !! snow socks defo work on sheet ice
  6. came up on another forum while talking about fitting heated washer jets - i didnt realise screenwash came in different strengths but it does - so with snow on the way and winter here i got rid of all my summer cheapo screenwash out the squirters and bought the heavy duty stuff that wont freeze till its -23 !! on sale in halfords on a 3 for 2 offer - im sure its available everywhere but if youre getting ready for winter,,, read the bottle and check the freezing temperature
  7. good news - its nice to have good heaters in your car when its freezing outside
  8. might just be loose - they just spin in and out, u can buy tyre valve caps that fit them in halfords or go to a local tyre place and they can nip it up or swap it for a new one in 2 seconds
  9. Hello and welcome - from the sound of it youre going to get similar mpg on your commute with a 200 , it will however feel a bit like youre driving with the handbrake on by comparison,,,,,,, test drive a 200 and youll know what i mean ,,, imo look for a 300 as prices are about the same and mpg too but lots more toys and performance
  10. Glad to hear that Niall :) I see we also have the same taste in cars B) Andy Yes very true, my Disco is in the early stage of being "modified" for offroading as in along with all the lift kit and QT radius arms I have bought a good welder to fix the rear floor although I have a pristine P reg body which I am considering doing a swap Its an ongoing on the road project aaah fellow landy owners,,, are you guys on "landrovernet" ?? really good site for all things landy
  11. Im not 100 percent if they are the right hoses,, they do look like the right kind of thing tho - someone else will post up to confirm im sure - ideally flush both sides - if you have no warmth then your problem lies in the heater matrix which is inside the car (essentially a mini radiator) - so flush a hose in each way to be sure its reversed at some stage - ideally chuck a bottle of radflush or similar in the expansion bottle a couple of days before you fluch to loosen it all up a bit inside - you can use hosepipes to extend the pipes out and over the side of the car to save getting dirty water over everything - and dont forget once it all flushes clean,,youll know when,, to REFILL WITH CORRECT STRENGTH ANTIFREEZE- As winter is on its way
  12. id never put new discs on with old pads tbh as itll wear the new disks unevenly - do you get the noise you refer to when you steer left to right and vice versa ? if so a massive dong can be a sign that something is wrong with your droplinks - from personal experience
  13. rajesh i havent checked but im pretty sure you would be hard pushed to buy an is200 off autotrader or anywhere for £1k which was ok - sure youd get a cat d repaired etc or one with a duff g/box or engine but an up together one in the real world for £1k which isnt beset with problems ,,, i doubt it -- i got offers as a p/ex on my t reg one from £1300 to £3k depending on what i was buying and where from,,, whatever you go for and even if youre getting finance to buy your new ride dont forget to haggle up your cars value and down the new cars value as theyre always inflated from the trade to allow you to get money off and feel like you did well
  14. you might well find your mpg improves dramatically with an autobox thats not failing tbh - also p/exing against a £8k or more car i would expect to get a bit more then £1k for yours,,, push hard when haggling at the dealers there is a credit crunch on and cars are going really cheap now and looking like theyll get cheaper still in the luxury end of the market - as you are thinking a lot of people are starting to move toward more economical transport atm
  15. glad you got yours sorted,, how much did it cost in the end,,,, surely sensible move would be to run yours for a while to get some value for the money you just spent ?
  16. as above - i was wonderin the same - bumper lookin very legano look in your avatar rory - looks good ,, i take it you got the bonnet all sorted now since the mishap ?
  17. does sit nicely on those aclex ! - theres a white 400 around here that looks surprisingly good on is200 17" alloys
  18. smells like that can be bacteria in the ac system - a full service on the ac by a specialist (not just a regas) should sort it out - a few diy methods available not sure how well they work - im sure the transporter can explain it all as its his specialist area i believe
  19. goodstuff - i think youll be pleasently surprised at 300 prices now and also 5 years on insurance should be cheaper then when you had a 200 ++ hid,s and power !!
  20. i had a green is200 - got scratched by footballs and car doors - used meguirs 3 stage stuff from halfords, also megs swirl and scratch remover - looked like a different car and sold for a good price too
  21. water can get in down the bottom of the windscreen i believe - if yours is misting up that badly it would imply that it is indeed damp inside
  22. Was 2 or three in scrappers at bridges scrapyard near gatwick airport - long way for you though sorry
  23. hello and welcome back - no its still the same wheelspinning in the snow with err3 playing on the 8 track !! few people you might know still on here - how come youre not going for a 300 this time ?
  24. and if youre going to try and bend the rules at all its probably best to avoid discussing it on open forum with policemen and allsorts ( no disrespect )
