  1. Recently serviced my 200 Sport, & used Silkolene fully synth oil. Last week I did a run from Salisbury to north of Glasgow & back, & the car averaged 37mpg. Round town I expect 30mpg. I should stick to the basics 7 avoid gimmicks like Slick50. Service regularly, use good quality oil etc.
  2. Just done a trip from Wiltshire to Scotland (Balloch) & back. At legal road speeds (& dodging round traffic snarl-ups north of Birmingham!) my 200 Sport averaged 37 mpg, which was much better than I'd expected :) .
  3. 2cm is a lot of extra oil... What has the garage said? when you checked the level was the car level and been standing for a while? Generally speaking you don't want to drive a car with excessive oil in the sump. Transporter, thanks for the quick reply. Yes, 2cm is a lot & I was shocked to see it (close to a liter I guess). I checked it the morning after the service having driven the 40 miles back from the garage. Thus the engine was cold & the car was dead level. Definitely way overfilled. Not had a chance to talk to the garage today - in any case, what can they say (other than sorry, which would be nice)? I don't want to drive it back to them, & given they made this ****-up in the first place I'm slightly reluctant to seek advice from them - better to trust the people on LOC I figure. What is the best way to remove the excess oil?
  4. Hi, had the IS200 serviced the other day & the indie Toyota/Lexus garage seems to have overfilled it with oil. The level is about 2 cm above the maximum level. I went to this garage specifically, even though they are about 40 miles away because they were recommended, so I'm a bit miffed . Question is, will this cause the engine any problems or not. If it will, what is the best way to remove a bit of the oil from the engine? Any advice gratefully received.

  6. Depending on the age & mileage of your car I would definitely get cambelt & waterpump done. Just had mine done on my 04 IS200 Sport, has only done 33k since new. Belt looked ok, but the idler & cambelt adjuster were both showing signs of wear. The waterpump had just started to develop a leak :o ! So my advice is do what the experts on the forum say - get it done every 60k miles or 6 year whichever comes first. Once its done the peace-of-mind is worth it :D
  7. If it helps to have a comparison, bought mine in December from dealer for £6950. IS 200 Sport, 04 reg with only 31k on the clock, full Lexus SH, dealer replaced front tyres with new ones. Full year MoT + 5 months tax.

  9. I've now found a gasket with the waterpump - hidden sandwiched between two bits of cardboard packaging.

  11. I have recently replaced the Cambelt + Associated parts and given my Lex it's Full 60,000 mile Service . I detail below what the parts and labour costs were:- Items supplied by JAPARTS (OEM Lexus/Toyoto parts supplied) TOTAL COST OF £287.47(includes V.A.T) ie:-Tensioner + Idler + Cam belt + Waterpump + Bypass pipe + 2xseals +3 No Belts (A/C; Alt & P/S). Items supplied by OPIE OILS; TOTAL COST OF £70.60 (includes V.A.T) ie: Fully Synthetic Engine Oil 5w-30 (Motul 8100 Eco-energy) + 6 No Denso Iridium IK20 Plugs. Items supplied by LEXUS Chester; TOTAL COST OF £10.75 (includes V.A.T) ie: Oil Filter + Sump Washer. As this was the first time i had done this type of work on a Lexus it took me about 5 hrs in total at my home address (anyone with a bit of mechanical know how; a basic tool kit and a set of axle stands could quite easily carry out this work). If you are not mechanically minded you could scource the parts yourself and then get an independant garage with a good reputation to fit them for you. You then only have to pay for the 5 hours Labour costs?. Note:- 1) I did not require an Air Filter as i have a re-useable K&N one fitted and the Gearbox Oil (Redline MT-90 fully synthetic) + Diff oil (Redline 75w 90 fully synthetic) + Pollen Filter were changed on the last service in 2008. 2) You can save quite a bit of money on part costs by specifying that you require Pattern Parts and not OEM parts 3) You can also save on oil as you do not have to use Fully Synthetic oils in the Engine/Gearbox/Diff. Hope the above helps and safe motoring everybody. Hi Imperial, my 2004 200 Sport is coming up for its cambelt change & I will do the waterpump at the same time, so your post was really useful. Like you, I'm buying the parts from Japarts. I've got the cambelt , idler, tensioner & waterpump, but I can't find the "bypass pipe" and "2 x seals" (highlighted in your post above) on the Japarts website - please could you post the Japart part numbers? I can guess what the "bypass pipe" is but what are the seals for? Also, what about the gasket for the waterpump - the new one from Japart does not seem to come with a replacement gasket. Very grateful for any help you can give.
  12. Just bought a set of these Hids4U hids for my 200 Sport (before seeing this topic) - have not fitted them yet, but hope a solution is found soon... Will let you know if I find the same problem.
  13. Hello, I've just bought a 2004 IS200 Sport, 32k miles, 2 owners & Lexus service history. Paid £6950 for it which seemed a good price. Really enjoying driving it despite the rubbish weather recently, & I had to join the LOC of course :D - excellent forum. I do have a question for the experts in the LOC. Having read through loads of LOC posts, I understood that the cambelt needed changing at 6 years/60k miles whichever is soonest. However, my Lexus service handbook states that the cambelt should be changed at 100k miles - no mention of a time period at all. Did Lexus change the IS canbelt system from 2004 to make the replacement requirement less frequent?
