  1. Checked out the how to guide which suggests the following to reset ECU: Remove the 20Amp/25Amp EFI fuse Remove the 15Amp ETCS fuse Problem is I cant find these fuses in the engine fuse box. Pull the cover off from under the battery and nothing seems to relate to the above on the fuse desc under the cover - unless I am missing something (probably am - apologies!)
  2. Some positive news on this. So the extended warranty re-confirmed they wouldnt cover the DPF. My local Lexus Garage (Stoke-on-Trent) acted on my behalf escalating this within Lexus GB as I had pointed out that this was probably one of the issues caused by the old engine (sooted up). Anyway, had to wait over Xmas for a response but car went back in yesterday - they had no luck getting it replaced under the warranty so Lexus GB provided the part free of charge as goodwill gesture considering all the problems I have had and the fact I had consisnetly purchased extended warranties. Lexus Stoke then fitted the new DPF for free. I have to say, one of the joys IMO with the brand is the customer services.
  3. Any of you guys had any experience of getting the DPF replaced under extended warranty (the one you buy from Lexus not the extended manufacturers). I have purchased the Lexus extended warranty now for the last three years and it has saved me lots in repair bills. So, other day got the dreaded VSC, didn't go into limp so took it to Lexus - so far the car has been back there 3 times with EGR failure and earlier this year engine was replaced to fix the piston issue (burning oil), car had done 95K when the engine was swapped. It's now on 115K. The diagnosis was DPF - they tried a regen but within 5 miles the lights were back on (not in limp). Lexus contacted me back to say the extended warranty company said the DPF wasn't covered - I think we all know the potential price to replace. The garage themselves were surprised and have raised a case with Lexus GB. I have pointed out that the DPF Is full due to the regular egr issues and the fact the previous engine was burning oil. I need to wait until tomorrow to see if I got anywhere but wondering if anyone has any success stories with the warranty?
  4. Yeah thats the same filler as mine, it was a long shot! I think its down to some crap in the fuel system, DPF, EGR as after a good "swift" run to Newquay its been much better, no lag on performance. I now get around 500 miles to a tank, 38 ish MPG but I reckon if I keep at 70ish it would do about 44-46MPG. To hit 50 I have to be doing 60mph, A roads etc - its could be less than yours due to the gearing on the sport.
  5. Well its still doing it!! Really funny, the last tank I got 427 miles out of, previous was 480+ so MPG dropped from 38 to 32.5 without any real change in my driving style - I do the same journey each day. Nipped it into Lexus to get them to check the codes as on hol tomorrow so driving cornwall. No codes reported (sort of expected as I aint seen any warning lights). Scratching my head, may check the EGR valve see it it needs a clean - I have done approx 10K in the car since the new engine is in although it does go on long runs with revs > 2000K daily. This may sound really daft but should the diesel filler tube have a little flap (about the size of a 10p)? I am sure mine used to but not anymore! There is a hole either side of the metail filler which looks like it could have had something fixed - could be a real long shot but if there should be one and this has come off the only place I can see it going is into the tank? Maybe interupting fuel feed into the engine?!? Mick.
  6. Thought I would post an update. After another tank full I have now confirmed it has nothing to do with how much diesel is in the car - thought it was weird. Anyway gave the car a reasonable blast over the weekend, filled up, put a havoline diesel treatment and travelled my usual Monday journey, no issues whatsover with power, felt really responsive, the AVG mpg (which hasnt been reset for the last 3 weeks) went up from 34.7 to 35.1 after just 60 miles and the TANK AVG up around 37 - 38. Not sure the treatment has had time to do anything but starting to suspect that maybe the EGR valve I tend to do 400 miles a week of steady driving (revs around 2K) and I had hoped with a new complete engine (modified parts) that the carbon wouldnt be as much of a problem but it sounds like my issue could be EGR valve related :-( not great as in 3 years of owning, I have had 3 EGR valves prior to the new engine.
  7. Hi Guys, Ok, so I "appear" to be having an unsual issue with my car, I say appear as it's difficult to be 100% sure. Let me explain.... IS220D Sport, complete new engine fitted @ 92,500, they checked the EGR valve (OK) and acid cleaned the manifold etc as the engine etc as the old engine was extemely coked up. So ran the engine in up to 100,000 miles and the new engine has been running really well (quiet, a lot more responsive, and the sport gearing is even better, car copes with 6th well under 50mph). Tank AVG MPG has been about 37ish and has gradually risen since the engine was installed. At 100,000 took it to the Lexus garage for MOT / 100K service, they also did the front pads and needed front tyres which I got from a local tyre place (Uniroyal) Since the service / MOT the MPG had dropped to around 33 / 34. I noticed this from the moment I used the car - I travel 120 miles a day, same route, same speed etc (mainly motorway). I also felt that its down on power (car appears to be throttle back under acceleration it is marginal but I do notice something not right). I called Lexus on the first monday then during the latter part of the week the MPG started to rise and any concerns of performance issues disappeared! It's now 3 weeks since service and it would appear to be when the car is full of diesel. It hovers around 34MPG tank average until tank half full then the average starts to rise to about 37 - 38! Similar story with my interpretation of perfomance issues, after half tank the car "seems" more responsive. I certainly havent spotted this before and as doing a lot of miles I am sure it would have been obvious. Wouldnt have thought that there was any significant weight in the diesel tank. Checked tyre pressures (they were down so inflated to 42 front 45 rear iirc). Sorry for the lengthy post but as this seems very unusual to me wanted to explain and welcome any ideas before I book back into Lexus. Cheers, Mick.
  8. Can anyone confirm what "extras" are covered by the extended warranty during an MOT test? I recall seeing some T&C's years ago when I took out the cover but checked the Lexus sites and unable to find T&C's on the warranty - the only ones they show is on the breakdown cover.
  9. Lexus will want £600 for the part (if its the ballast) as part of the headlight. I know, I had both done (albeit under extended warranty - phew). with labour it would have been ridiculous. I am sure you could get it cheaper if DIY with the appropriate parts!
  10. What speed were you at for the 45mpg? I drive quite a bit on the motorway with both CC and manual and at 75 I struggle to get above 38mpg (220d sport). I have however just replaced a dirty air filter (although not reset the ECU) I am waiting ot see how it compares.
  11. Hi, were you using a lot of oil? Mine broke down with the VSC lights etc twice in the last 12 months. They have replaced the EGR valve both times but I am starting to wonder if this could be a symptom of requiring a decoke - only thing is mine isnt burning ridiculous amounts of oil. It was serviced at 70K and is now at 79K and not needed to top up - although they did issue an amber of low oil when lexus did the last EGR a few weeks ago.
  12. Yup, the EGR valve has gone again. Was asbout 50 miles from home but luckily just pulled into a car park near a place of work before the dreaded dashboard lights - didnt go into limp this time like the last time on the M6 Toll - neat :tsktsk: AA were quick (through my extended warranty) and they had me in a A6 TDi within two hours and my car was travelling back up the M6 on a low loader! Lexus confirmed EGR valve again and I explained that this would be the 3rd one in just over two years and around 30,000 mile - 10,000 mile since the last one - so can I expect it to go again in another year!! I was hoping they were going to find some extra related fixes - engine de-coke etc but they said not showing any other faults so basically a new valve and they also did a re gen of the CAT (which I dont recall them doing before). I always run the car on shell / BP and put millers additive every once in a while, oh and a little bit of right foot cleaning as and when required but frustrated as hell with this! Car is about 9,0000 after its 70K service and no oil lights - the safety inspection from Lexus showed Oil at medium level so I am guessing it aint an oil burner (piston rings, head gasket etc).
  13. OK, I have been noticing a gradual decrease in MPG. Checked the air filter and it is quite dirty. The car is on 78K so it will get a new one at the 80K service but am tempted to pop a new one in now and swap it back to the old one before the service. So the question, anyone used K&N filters in their 220D or non-OEM. Prices and performance comparisons welcome'd between non-OEM, K&N and OEM?
  14. If it's ballasts its part of the headlight unit. Part is £600 per unit. I needed two but done on extended warranty, although I went through the rigmorole of changing bulbs. I went for some imported philips D4S from the states at a fraction of the price but they were a different colour (more blue) than a philips D4S from Lexus / Toyota and one still flickered!. In the end I ended up paying nearly 400 quid on bulbs and fitting from Lexus to get things right. There was a post here where a Lexus dealer has an alternative (HID) bulb for cars out of warranty. Worth a search.... Dont think it shows up directly on Lexux's part computer when they check.
  15. Yup they do - two dealers around me both said they use 5/30 semi, along with a number of other dealers I called around the area. The first service I paid extra for fully but now I just leave it to them, any problems and the extended warranty can sort it.
