  1. Can't see any wires tucked in anywhere. Wondered if they connect down from the lock barrel to the door lock mechanism in the middle of the door. Hence really confused. there are two wires which run under the door lock mechanism.. Assumed they ran into the centre of the door lock But they must be there somewhere.. Wondering if I got one from a breaker, that it would have a loom and plug that would plug in somewhwere.. Ideas on a postcard
  2. Ok, plot thickens.. Stripped door panel down, expecting there to be an issue, as pointed out with the contacts on the back of the door barrel. But, there was nothing on the back of the door barrel, no wiring loom either.. So I think (as the door handles are a slightly different shade of paint) that at some point someone has changed the handles, and not replaced/renewed the lock contacts If I buy these, is there somewhere they plug into? do they go into the back of the door lock?? Well confused, and it ain't a tough job, but access to some screws and fixing was terrible! Only other thought is to replace the alarm system with a new one, hence lock the car with a fob! Any recomenndadtions?? Jamie
  3. Hi have left the WD40 to work away.. but fear its worse and needs the lock stripped out. The key fob has a lock and unlock button on the front, it's about an inch long by half an inch wide Red panic button on the back. Have put a new battery in it, and no joy.. does it need re-programmed?? Is this possible?? Cheers Jamie
  4. Hi all just bought my next LS400.. It had been sitting for a year, after the last owner had blown the main 120A fuse, and none of the electrics worked..thats fixed, so this is my next project Anyway, the key won't lock the car. Either in the lock or with the fob I would love the fob to work, but not the worry today.. I have sprayed the inside of the lock with WD40. but when the key goes in it won't rotate fully, hence not engaging the locks. So car is open... The last owner said the key always used to work the doors. Has anyone had similar issues? Is it a case of stripping down the door and stripping the door lock down. Central locking works from inner button on door and from shutting the locks so more an issue between the key and the lock JM PS car is a 1996 with 144k for £400!
  5. Well I have done it again, only 4 months since selling my last LS400 I have bit the bullet and bought a cheap one with need of a bit of fettling. The guy I bought it off, is emigrating, so needs it gone, so £300 later I have bought it. Car starts, and runs ok. Will go into gear if you press the overdrive. But it seems like there is a very general electical fault. No lights, no wipers, no power steering. Dash lights don't come on either, but I have repaired the dashes in my last two LS400's so wonder if that is related. Seems to me that there could either be an issue related to the dash going down, or, its an ECU, wiring or common feed problem. E.g. there is a lost earth somewhere So, if anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate a pointer...either that my multimeter my need a new battery with overuse JM
  6. Hi On my latest LS400, (its the first of the mk2's) a 1995-> car.. The parking brake wont release back up when you pull the lever on the dash. I had the car up on mates ramps yesterday, and both in the footwell and under the car, the cable is curved where it joins both the pedal mechanism and the splitter/adjuster under the rear seats under the car It simply looks like someone has fitted a new cable, but the wrong one. Either that the old one is seriously stretched, as even with all the adjustment taken, it seems too long. Has anyone had any experience with these? is it a problem with the adjuster not taking the cable back in..? Handbrake works, but not great..
  7. done mine recently Sourced struts from online supplier www.strutsdirect.co.uk (I think..)for about £30 for the pair (100 quid each @ lexus) They didn't come with the bolt in sections attached, and the old struts wouldn't come out of the attachments, so I had to get the grinder out.. 20 minutes later, job done. Take care grinding the old ones not to kill the ball joint. But very satisfying job..
  8. Needed to grind the ends off, but top work from www.strutsdirect.co.uk Old unit (last of the MK1 cars), kept hitting back of my head when I opened the bonnet.. Other advice is fit one ball joint into bonnet sking first and then pop the second one (inner wing) on Bit of copper grease too! Lexus wanted £98 + vat each, so £235.. or £35 plus an hours labour (mine!) Another saving keeping the LS on the road well
