  1. Evening all, Last night on a gentle drive out to a comedy gig I got major steering wobble. I quickly pulled over to look for what I thought would be a flat tyre. I found the passenger front wheel to be smoking. The front caliper was seized onto the disc. I managed to whip the wheel of and 'bray' the pots back into the caliper enough to free the wheel off and carry on my journey with minimal braking. I have greased the pistons and worked them back and forth with a set of clamps. A trip out later will see how much good I have done. Any other idea's for freeing them off or have I done the right thing?? Thanks in advance James
  2. For Starters welcome. The fuel economy leaves alot to be desired but not the worst around for its age and size. Comfort is top notch on my sport model and assume this is the same throughout the range. I am also 21 and my insurance on a 2001 Sport is £800 with 1 years ncb, fully comp with Elephant. As for being a drift car there are better people on here than me to tell you what is accomplish-able. Davison
  3. Custom fit a widescreen satnav into it. Lots of examples on the site.
  4. I don't know about cars but on bikes they are a pretty good make.
  5. Yet more rotten luck, snapped my second master key in my ignition after it has been hit in my pocket. So my question is, and I think I know the answer. Can I program an is220 transponder in to my 2001 is200?
  6. Im lead to believe head gasket will go as the cylinder head will heat up alot quicker then the block, the expansion on the head cause gaps and therefore 'blows' the gasket.
  7. Avoid Timpson, they got very shirty when I asked to have a spare key cut. I would try a smaller local key cutters.
  8. I got a blank master key from Ebay and got it cut to suit my spare. Why would you not be able to reprogram a used fob using the door lock/unlock method. I would rather test these options as they are a fraction of the cost you have shown. [edit : I clearly blanked you had no spare]
  9. Try Elephant pal, I think I paid £900ish with 1 years ncb at 21.
  10. Doesn't the IS have a separate light for such events as bulb failure?
  11. Slightly on/off subject. Wiring high beams to Fog lights?? Not particularly for improved night time vision but more for 'Flashing' to other motorist when being polite. I began to think of this when I was flashed into traffic by a newish Scooby, his fogs and lights seamed to flash. I have often flashed people out and they have failed to see the change in lights... Or is this to Chavvy/pointless??
  12. I think the heating matrix water might be the same water?? When my radiator top up bottle leaked I heard gargling through the heaters when I assume are was sucked through. So if my above assumptions are correct the radweld or such could be restricting the pipes to the heating. I'm sure someone with greater knowledge will either affirm this or give a much better reasoning. Iv been running my heating on manual whilst the engine is warming as the temp warming up in winter is alot longer so I get it blowing warm before the 'auto' believes its warm enough.
  13. I got a brand new seatbelt for my 2001 IS200 for £75 from Lexus (Hull). £300 seems outrageous just for the seatbelt, I would ring a query the pricing. Regards James
  14. Hey guys, All sorted, had a few problems removing the shroud from the radiator, mainly the bottom bolts. I dropped the under tray to get the bottom 3 bolts out. One was rounded from a previous trip rough arse so I made a 3/8 socket on and got it out. The pipe had clearly been bodged before with plastic glue, so I drilled and tapped the hole 1/8 bsp and fitted a tappered nipple to suit. From here I plugged off the nipple and tested with water. No leaks so slotted it back into the car. Simple 1 or 2 hour job, hardest part was unplugging the Fan connection and longest was dropping the undertray
  15. Thanks for the quick responses guys, is this shroud easy/quick to remove so I can fix the pipe on elsewhere? Thanks James
  16. Evening, My Lex seems (well was) losing radiator coolant from the top up. Upon further investigation and a small top up a while ago i have discovered the flow pipe from the bottom of the top up chamber was leaking and has now snapped off. Any ideas where to get a spare, is it a new rad job or can i swap out/repair this one? Sorry for picture size just so you can see they lug that is off. Cheers James
  17. The Toyota stories where only so prominent in the news because they, at there own expense, owned up to using a product that wasn't up to the job in a few cases. You seem to be throwing a lot of money into fixing this banging, from new calipers down to small pins. The noise doesn't occur on mine or as it seems many others IS's, so not really fair to start calling Lexus bad cars for something that has more than likely occured from driver error. :tsktsk:
  18. Hi there, Although this is my first post I have been monitoring (stealing) maintenance and general information of the forum for a few months. Alas my first post must be that of an IS200 problem. My problem is the Windscreen wiper motor is making such a racket no matter the speed it is set at. Looking for any recommendations on a website to purchase one from, then advice on the swap. Thanks in advance James
