Hi All, As some of you are aware, I've purchased a 2017 Lexus Gs300h F Sport back in May 2021 with 13k on the clock from a main dealer. A few weeks after purchasing the car, it wouldn't start. I called the Lexus Roadside Assistance and the AA came in and jump started the car. I was told that the battery was fine and I must have left something on (?!). It drove fine over the last few months and the maximum it was left without being driven was for 4 days. I've just returned from holiday on Sunday and the car has not been driven for 8 days. I attempted to start it yesterday and it took a couple of attemps but managed to get it going and took it for a long drive. This morning, the same happened where it took me three attemps to start it. Am I right to assume that it might need a new battery? It currently has just 16k on the clock so would it be covered under warranty? Your advise would be much appreciated.

Congratulations for your new car. Sorry for jumping on the thread, but a few weeks ago I've picked up my 2017 GS300h F Sport in White F Sport with the Dark Rose interior. I've taken it to a mechanic just to give it a once over and he noticed that the tyre walls are cracked on all four tyres. I'm surprised that the Lexus dealership has sold me the car with tyres in such poor condition, so now I need to replace all four tyres. Nevertheless. please see a few pics on the day I bought it:

I really like the styling of the F Sport Model. Nevertheless, there is only one GS450h available for sale nationwide and that is a black F Sport.

Hi John, Many thanks for your comprehensive explanation, it does give me some relief that the newer GS models aren't as desirable as the older models. Nevertheless, if I manage to secure a deal on a GS, I will most definitely get a lock or protection place installed just to be on the safe side.

Exactly my thoughts, it does look like a Ford Mondeo / Vauxhall Insignia competitor rather than a premium executive car. I would love to go for a GS450h, however I've been looking a 2016 or newer Lexus GS F Sport since the beginning of the year and they appear to be an extremely rare find. I have a friend who is a car dealer and has trader access to BCA, he has been unable to locate any over the last few months. I've owned black and grey cars over the last 15 years, so I'm looking for either a white or blue colour Lexus GS. If you look on auto trader, there is only one Lexus GS450h F-Sport and four GS300h F-Sport for sale in the whole country! If anyone can find me a white or blue Lexus GS450h F Sport 2016+ model, I would definitely be interested!

Many thanks for all your replies, very helpful. I've also spotted that the maximum speed is lower by 7 miles on the ES (not that I drive at max speeds,coff,coff) It does make one wonder whether the ES is actually a replacement of the GS or just an alternative option.

Dear All, I'm considering purchasing a 2016 Lexus GS300h F sport and this model appears to be holding its value well as apparently these are a rare sight nowadays. Whilst searching for GS F Sport models, I came across the newer ES300h F sport and the pricing difference was not significant. I like the exterior look of the GS a lot more, as it looks a lot sportier and aggressive then the ES. The interior looks a lot better on the ES and there is more room in the back too. I'm also anticipating the ES to have more up to date technology. Apart from the above, is there anything else that would make the ES a better proposition? In your opinion, which model would you go for and why?

Hi All, I'm considering purchasing a 2016 Lexus GS300h F Sport and in the process of making an offer. However, I have concerns regarding the recent rise in catalytic converter thefts, especially in hybrid models and I believe a member on here has his stolen not long ago. Is there something about hybrid cars that makes cat converters more valuable? I live in a private and secluded area and my car would be an easy target for the thieves, as no other houses overlooking mine and I don't have a garage. Is there anything that can be fitted to the car to prevent access to the cat converter? Kind Regards

Dear All, Many thanks for all your responses. Its been very interesting to read your experiences with the GS model. I've not had the opportunity to test drive the GS300h, but I did drive the IS300h and the performance was good enough for a normal drive and the occasional lively drive. I do drive my IS250 like a nutter when the opportunity arises (got 3 points on my license), so performance is important for me. However in addition to performance, I also value reliability, gadgets and comfort. If I was looking for a car purely for performance, my list would have been either a Mercedes E43 AMG or BMW 540i. In terms of keeping the car, both Lexus I had were intended to keep for 3 or 4 years and since they've aged very well without any major issues, I ended keeping them for longer. I'm a cash buyer and don't do finance or leases, so happy to keep cars until I feel like I need a change. Whilst there are some GS300h under £15k, that is absolutely NOT the ONLY reason for my decision to go for a GS300h. The other models on my list are in the region of £20k and I have a max budget of £25k for the right car. I'd like to go for a GS model 2016 onwards as I like the newer shape, and finding a GS450h with a spec that I like in the latest shape is like finding a needle in the haystack. I guess that I've been spoilt by the reliability, comfort, gadgets and performance of the IS250 which I believe was way ahead of its time in 2006. Even on a 2017 BMW 5 series, you'll find that the reverse camera and other gadgets are considered extras. I'm trying to arrange a test drive on a GS300h so that I can confirm whether its quicker than my wife's Yaris 1.3 vvt-i, but its proving difficult as dealers are not allowing test drives until all goes back to normal.

@rich1068 In terms of reliability, I know that I won't go wrong with another Lexus. I've been driving Lexus for the last 13 years (owned a Lexus IS200 for approx 6 years prior to the IS250), so wondering whether I should go for a bit of a change or get my third Lexus.

Dear All, After owning my 2006 Lexus IS250 for nearly 7 years and after many faultless and enjoyable miles, I'm starting to think its now time for an upgrade. I'm looking for something with a bit more space and ideally more economical as due to the pandemic, its unlikely that I will be doing a lot of motorway. I have the following options on the table: 1) Lexus GS300h F Sport (2016 model) 2) BMW 530e M Sport (2017 model) 3) Mercedes E350e (2017 model) What are your thoughts on the above and have you experienced driving the above models? Dear All, Many thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. With half a tank of Sainsburys fuel, I've filed up the tank with Shell Vpower and went for a 350 miles round trip. Gave it the "Italian tune up" ( I really missed that V6 sound and the dials turning up red!), and the car now feels a lot more responsive and idles as usual. I'm not expecting to return back to the office until September / October and will be working a lot more from home, so I guess we have to now wait and see whether the car reverses to being sluggish anytime soon. It maybe a case of giving it the Italian tune up every now and again. Regards, Lexusisfan

Dear All, Hope you are all keeping well and safe. Since the lockdown, my Lexus IS250 (2006 model) has been mainly used for short trips around town instead of the usual 50 mile daily commute on A roads / motorway. I've noticed that the car now feels sluggish and noticed the rev counter dropping a couple of times as if the car was misfiring. I also only fill up the car with applegreen fuel (my local petrol station), however on my last shopping trip, since Sainsbury's petrol was dirt cheap I've filled up the tank and the power problems started a few days after filling up which makes me think that it could be due to Sainsbury's fuel or just a pure coincidence. Has anyone experienced anything similar before? Also, I will be going for a long trip with the Lexus tomorrow and was thinking of filling up the tank with Shell V Power and adding an injector cleaner to see if it helps. Your recommendations would be much appreciated. Kind Regards

I had the same issue a few months ago on my IS250 and it was due to one tyre losing pressure due to a small puncture. See below:

Dear All, First of all, I would like to thank you all for taking your time in helping out with your advice and suggestions which have been much appreciated. I've been to three different garages that checked the suspension bushes and rods and it was all fine. I then went to a trusted local garage to check the geometry and the front was slightly out, but not massively out to cause the issue. After adjusting the geometry, I took the car for a test drive and there was no significant improvement, which at this point I thought that either I'm going crazy or its probably about time to think about changing the car. Now this is embarrassing, the gentlemen that did the geometry asked prior to checking whether the tyres had the correct pressure which I replied yes. ( I had checked two weeks before). He decided to check the tyre pressures, and to my surprise, the front offside was down to 22 psi while its normally at around 35psi. Immediately after inflating the tyre, the car drove as it should. It turn out the tyre had a nail stuck to it and it was slowly losing pressure, I've ended up replacing the tyre for a brand new one and the problem is now solved.

Hi All, I have a Lexus Is250 on a 06 plate and I've started noticing that the steering wheel feels loose and when braking the car steers to the left. I felt really uncomfortable driving it so I toke the car to my mechanic who checked all the brakes (asked him to greeze all the sliding pins while he was at it) and checked the bushes etc and he was unable to find any faults. He suggested tracking may solve the issue. Has anyone had similar issues with their cars and how they got them resolved? Many thanks

Hi All, I've recently replaced all four tyres on my IS250 for Uniroyal Rainsport 3 from camskills (excellent value!). They seem to be very good especially in rain with the exception of the side walls being very sensitive as I've hit a kerb while parking and lost a small chunk of it! Anyways, during weekdays I do mainly motorway / A roads alone at speeds of 80 / 90 and weekends city driving with family. I've been using the recommended tyre pressures 35 at the front (225/45/17) and 38 at the back (245/45/17). What tyre pressure would you recommend from your experience?

Hi All, Spoken to Lexus regarding the rear caliper pin and rubber boots. The gentlemen from Lexus said they don't usually sell caliper parts separately, only a caliper as a whole so he wasn't to sure what would I need, therefore I've ordered two sliding pins and two rubber boots at a price of £36 incl VAT.

Hi John, Many thanks for the excellent post, very helpful. Just got my car back from the safety recall and they have pointed out exactly the same - rear caliper seized (£195 to replace). Spoke to my mechanic and indeed I've noticed that rear wheel is very hot when I park up and have been told that I should get the caliper pins from the dealer as it looks like the pin is seized. Any ideas if I can get them on ebay or will the dealer have them in stock? They have also pointed out that I might have to change discs and pads (quoted £295 to replace), whats the feedback on the APEC discs? Any improvements on the braking as I feel the IS250 braking is not the best (compared to the IS300h loan car that stopped like a train!).

Hi Bingo123, Please keep us update on your hunt for new tyres. I need to replace all 4 on mine (225/45/17 front and 245/45/17 rear) and trying to minimise the dent on my wallet!

Hi Andy, I'm just wondering if you've managed to sort it out and what the actual problem was. My IS250 is producing a grinding noise from the rear, but I don't think it would be the calipers as usually you would get overheating and feel that the car has the handbrake which is not happening in my Lexus at the minute. Just wondering whether it needs the brake pads replacing. Thanks

Hi liowheart, I drive a Lexus IS250 2006 model and get the exact same "whirring noise" since I've bought it. It's especially audible when parking, I'm also interested to find out what it would be.
