  1. I have to disagree. I traded in my 53 plate Shogun for a 2007 (57) IS220d for the same reason mpg's. Sp far I have only had a problem with rattling in the drivers door. I phoned Lexus who booked it in and put it right, all within a couple of days. Economy isn't the best for its size but it has great performance, and if the turbo is timed right it pulls like a train. I average about 35mpg round town and around 44mpg on a run, that is driving it enthusiastically. I looked at BMW's, and Audis, both I found bland, I considered a Mercedes but they were too pricey. For what you get with a 220d I think it offers the best bang for your bucks. The only real niggle I have is with the long range gearing, it takes some getting used to and 6th gear is almost redundant unless going over 75mph. Other than that I think it is a great car.
  2. I live in Hull and bought my 220d 57 plate with 37K miles on it around 8 weeks ago. I bought it from a local independant dealer and it had a really nasty rattle in the drivers door. It was that bad I was considering trading it in for a Merc/Audi or Beemer even though I had looked at them and preferred the Lexus. Anyhow I contacted our local Lexus dealer and explained about the rattle, they were excellent and booked the car in for 2 days later. They offered me a courtesy car but I didn't need one, and I got my car back the same day absolutely rattle free :) It is now a pleasure to drive and I look forward to it. Lexus said that even if the car hadn't still been under manufactures warranty they would have still done the rattles. They said I had purchased a lexus and it should be a joy to drive :) I give them 10 out of 10. Forgot to say they even washed and polished it before returning it to us.
  3. Another update. I got the car back from Lexus with rattle fixes completed :) I have tried it this morning which is when the rattle was at its worst and it seems to have totally gone :) I am over the moon and finally starting to enjoy having a Lexus.
  4. Just an update on the situation with the missing luggage load cover. After numerous phone calls to the dealer and a lot of promised return calls that never happened I finally went back to the dealers in person and expressed my concerns in front of a few of their potential customers. I was polite but firm and they finally ordered me a replacement from Lexus at a total cost of £253 including the VAT. I picked it up last week and now really pleased which is a good result. I also phoned Lexus as I have a bad rattle on the drivers door, they have booked it in for tomorrow :) They asked if there was any other noises in the cabin but I couldn't tell them as my door rattle is that bad its difficult to hear if there are any others LOL. They said they will do all the rattle fixes they know of on the car :) They even said they would do them even if the car was out of warranty, but it isnt. On a more disappointing note, the missus took the Lexus to work today and kerbed the osf alloy :( I have looked at Ebay but can't find anyone selling just one wheel? Anyone got a standard 16 inch 220D alloy lying around they would sell us? Cheers.
  5. That pretty much sums it up mate :( On the plus side I still have the plastic divider that seperates the trays :) I have tried all online breakers I can find and checked for 220/250's being broken on Ebay but no luck so far. Hopefully someone will have a spare cover kicking about?? Cheers.
  6. Hi Ro1, I bought the car used and the dealer says tough :( I have the boot carpet and tray that sit over the spare wheel, the bit I am missing is the foldable cover that sits over the tray moulded into the boot carpet. Hope that made sense? If it wasn't raining heavily I would take a picture. Thank you.
  7. Well picked up my IS220D today from the dealers, got it home and noticed in the boot that it is missing a cover that goes over a recess in the centre of the boot above the spare wheel. There is a printed label in the boot about using the cover but we didn't get one :( I have phoned the dealer but they said the car didn't come to them with one so basically tough. I have also phoned Lexus but they wanted a huge amount for one. Anybody know where one is available or where I could get one without paying Lexus premiums? The inside of the boot is finished in a dark grey. On a different note the car is a great drive and lovely and comfortable, exactly what I was hoping for. Thankyou for the help.
  8. Thanks for the welcomes and thanks Col for the encouragement it is what I was hoping to hear :) Really looking forward to it now, just hope the dealer can get it ready asap? 45+ MPG would be totally excellent compared to what we are used to. On whattowcar website they have a choice for the IS220d standard from 2006 and then there is IS220D standard shortshift from 02/2007 onwards. Ours was registered 21st November 07 so would it be a shortshift version? or is that a totally different model altogether? Thanks again Paul.
  9. Hi guys, just traded in my 2003 Shogun 3.2DiD Elegance Auto in for a 2007 (57) IS 220d. I have had a test drive in the 220 and really enjoyed it. We don't get it until sometime next week as the dealers we purchased it from were short staffed due to illness. I didn't know about the forums until after I bought the car and I am now a bit worried about buying the diesel. Read loads of horror stories about it already :( I will be happy as long the car averages around 30mpg as this will be nearly double what the Shogun did to the gallon, which is one of the reasons we decided to trade it in, plus the fact they offered me £7500 part ex for it :) We also need the Lexus to pull our caravan and according to whattowcar website it is a 100% match which is great, although the towbar cost is nearly £400 fitted <ouch!> On the test drive the Lexus seemed really powerful, had loads of punch and drove lovely. The clutch felt a bit springy but I haven't driven a manual car for nearly 2 years now. The gearstick was smooth and easy to glide into gear. I have read about them having really long gearing but when I drove it it seemed fine and was up into 5th gear in no time. I didn't get chance to get into 6th gear because of traffic which is worrying me now. I really liked the car even though it was only a standard spec it did have rear parking sensors fitted, a big bonus for the missus. Please tell me I haven't made a huge mistake going for the Lexus? Cheers.
