  1. Hi Dave Yes, sorry, I meant 2005. It's dome only 0k in those 7 years. I bought it 30 months ago and yes, again, it originally came with a full Lexus Used Approved Car warranty, followed by a 2 year local warranty from the main dealer. The car is still under the second warranty, but the problem first started about 8 months into original Lexus warranty. I am afraid that I agree that it’s unacceptable for the fault to recur after so many attempts to put it right. I have not mentioned the name of the dealership but they are one of the larger concerns in the south east and have a high reputation on the Forum. I am surprised that they keep falling down on this. Do you or any other list members have experience of what it takes to correct the fault? Regards Mike
  2. Sorry, I should have added that I have read the archived posts on the forum and have tried all the remedies so far that don't involve replacing the sensors. I have washed and dried the sensors and surrounding areas until they gleam, blown compressed air at them, and played a hair-dryer over the area to try to remove any condensation. It's the intermittent nature of the problem that is so infuriating. Regards Mike
  3. Hi All I have had a bit of a longstanding problem with the parking sensors on my 1995 GS430, from pretty well the moment I bought it from a main dealership in the South East of England. The system keeps giving me false alerts, especially from the rear sensor. It tends to happen more often if the car has been standing for a while, but not always. I will often have the "bump imminent" red bar showing at the rear bumper in the display panel, and the beeper sounding continuously, but there is nothing within 100 metres of the back of the car. The car has been back to the main dealer at least half a dozen times. They say that it's hard to track down as the fault is intermittent. Some sensors have been replaced, but all to no avail. I am left wondering if this is not a processor fault somewhere. Intermittent faults in computer kit often stems from a PCB fault, like a dry-soldered contact. Has anyone else had this problem, please and, if so, how was it cured? Many thanks, Mike
  4. I spoke to Lexus UK today, who were predictably sniffy. Their view is that if it's not part of a UK spec, then it has no place in the UK and that trying to make a UK spec car behave like its US cousin would invalidate every warranty from here to California and back. Oh, and they proabaly wouldn't service it either. Ironic, really, that I was speaking to Customer Service ... Mike
  5. OK - amusing but ultimately unhelpful answers apart, has anyone any views on whether you can achieve automatic "door lock on drive away" on a 05 430? Thanks Mike You could save all this bother by pressing the 'Lock Doors' button near the electric window switch. Ah, how very true. I guess it depends on how well you trust your memory to lock the doors each and every time you drive off, and whether you have had your laptop snatched from the passenger seat while waiting at the lights. It was just one little lapse – forgetting to relock to doors after I’d been to a petrol station. But it only takes a little lapse ….
  6. Hi I know that this topic was raised sometime last year, but did not appear to be concluded. I want to be able to have my newly acquired 2005 GS430 doors lock automatically when I drive away. Apparently the US spec models have this facility. A previous thread pointed to the US manual, which gave a procedure for automatic locking either on moving the gear shift out of P or, alternatively, on the road speed reaching about 15 mph. The response at the time was that this was a dealer set option. I tried the for myself procedure described in last year’s thread, usng the passenger side lock as activator as well as the drivers side, given that the instructions were for a US spec vehicle, but without any joy. As my car needed to go in for a bit of work at the nearby main dealer, I asked if they could look into the possibility. They concluded that they couldn’t help because they “didn’t have the right codes”. I should have asked whether they meant that they simply didn’t know the codes or that the US spec codes would be different from the UK spec codes; but I forgot. They did say that the 2008 onwards models have lock on drive away as standard I think I shall have to pursue this on my own. So my question is whether anyone has successfully retrofitted lock on drive away to their GS 300 /430 and, if so, how? If not, does anyone have any ideas for accomplishing this? Is there a module that could be fitted? 9. Hello All, Well, here I am, the proud owner of an 05 GS 430, purchased from Lexus Guildford. It’s a terrific car – easily the most technically accomplished car that I have owned. While I’ll admit that it doesn’t have quite the chassis (and ride therefore) of my Jag XJ 8, it scores far higher in terms of technical kit and usability. As this is just to say hello, I’ll keep my queries for the right part of the form. Regards, Mike
