  1. Many thanks for that. There is a button under the dash to turn it on/off but it is so far under ( half way between the bottom of the dash and the pedals ) that I did not consider it to be there, especialy as the handbook shows it next to the 'locking bleeper volume control' which is much easier to see. When I phoned my local Lexus dealer yesterday they did not tell me about this button, just wanted me to book it in for 30 mins (£45?) just so they could press this button.
  2. I have just aquired a 2006 LS430 with Keyless Go. I have all three Master keys. The Keyless Go does not work. The Lexus handbook shows a button under the dash to turn this on/off. but there is no such button on the car. The remotes work ok and the remote barreries are OK. Any ideas would be welcome before I take it to Lexus. Thanks.
  3. You can turn off the steering wheel easy entry system by turning the electric adjustment knob.
  4. Very true but Warranty Companies are insurance Companies and they too make a profit, but would we be happy driving around with no insurance ( even if this was legal ) Warranties protect against unexpected large bills and you are buying peace of mind. I am a motor dealer and I use Warrantywise.co.uk who are similar to Warranty Direct -they do have some good points - no excess to pay, up to 5 year old cars all electrical and all mechanical parts are covered. no payment up-front, parts + labour + breakdown + European Use + Hotel exs if stranded + no 'betterment' + no 'consequetial damage' get out ( ie if something fails and damages another part eg cambelt goes and wrecks the engine all the repair is covered. You can use ant VAT garage for servicing/repairs. I often put warranties on my cars it's peace of mind that you pay for. Incidently I have no connection with WarrantyWise other than using them. Please check the accuracy of all this at their website. Regards. Carcar.co.uk
  5. 2003 53-reg but 2004 6 speed model only 34152 miles on Autotrader at £12990.
  6. Hi Tony, NO WAY! This is odd! I suppose our cars were manufactured at the same time (ish). Did you buy the same time as me, about 5 months ago? My advise is that if the light comes on again take it to a Lexus dealer, don't ring them as the problem may as you say disappear by th time of the appointment. They should check it straight away. If it comes up with the same error codes as my car get in touch with the guys who sold you the car regardless of warranty. I found out that consumers have buyers rights before 6 months where the garage has to prove that there was not a problem with the car at time of purchase, almost impossible to do. Therefore you then have a legal right to claim for repair of a refund of some of the purchase price to cover repair. I didn't have to quote any of the to the garage I bought the car from as they knew their of their obligations. Also worth giving Lexus GB a ring. Apparently the ECU is a known fault on early cars and were replaced if any had a problem under the 3 year warranty, some cars slipped through the net, like ours. I think the last time I had ECU problems was in an Austin Montego! I hope you get this sorted and that this is the last of the problems! Hi - yes dealers do have 6 months under sale of goods act but only for faults present when the car was sold - that is why we have warranties: for future problems. If the engine light was not on when the vehicle was sold or within a very short time of that sale then it is simply a fault that developed after sale and the dealer has no legal responsibility. Obviously they may well offer a goodwill solution. Always try to negociate a warranty and check its terms ie payout limits.
  7. I have an SC430 that had levelling sensor problems - now fixed for pennies - The sensors are on the front and rear nearside suspension. They can be removed with a 10 mm & 8 mm spanner. These sensors often get water in side which causes their failure. Rather than pay Lexus £300 to fix try this. Remove sensor ( try the front one first) take it onto a clean table. Unscrew the 4 cross head screws. Inside you will find a variable resistor. There are 3 wires going into this sensor. First with either a meter or bulb circuit tester check that each of the 3 plug contacts are conducting to one of the 3 springs ( see photo ) Often the sockets where the springs fit are rusty and sometimes the springs themselves are disintergrated by rust. Pull each spring out using fine nosed pliers and look at the condition of the gold plated contact at the bottom of each socket. If there is rust present use a small screwdriver to scratch away rust until shiny and bright. Clean each spring - replace any that look past it - Recheck each spring for electrical continuity. If all ok replace cover and 4 screws and refit to car. If you can not clean up then consider soldering a wire from the lead between the plug and the sensor and feeding it into the unit and soldering it to the dodgy spring. If you need help call me on 0161 707 3968.
  8. Hello - give Watford Engineering a try - via Google. Regards.
  9. But arn't you always suspicious when there is an obvious photo missing on Ebay - why no front interior shot?
  10. What are you expecting to pay for Pirelli P Zero 245/50/17W? If more than £196.77 try Googling Black Circle Tyres this price is fully fitted at your local tyre centre.
  11. Hello -I have a S400 with Lexus Satnav - screen also controls climate & radio. It is asking me to input a code. I have tried the last 3 & 4 numbers of the VIN number. I phoned Lexus GB - no help. I phoned 3 local Lexus main dealers. 2 said 'no can do' 1 said 'can reset to factory' at £67.00 plus VAT. are they simply going to press buttons or do they have a machine? Is there an easy way to reset this code. I have tried the previous owner - no joy. It is not written anywhere in the handbooks etc. Thanks.
  12. Hi This is very easy, see the attached, it is showing the gear surround removed and saying to use a screwdriver to remove the bottom panel, this can be removed without removing the gear surround by inserting a bent pick or a small allen key in the bottom corners where the switch panel meets the gear surround, the panel is held by tight clips and needs a good pull in both lower corners, tape up or protect somehow the gear surround as it marks easily. When you have removed the lower switch panel there are THREE screws as shown, the one in the center is deeper in the dash than the other two, DO NOT DROP THESE SCREWS as you will never see them again and they will rattle, I use a blob of blue tack on the screwdriver and get my other hand in to catch them should they fall. I don't know how the switch is fitted to the panel but I imagine it is just clipped in. Good Luck Pete Thanks Haylands - I would say that is the best response I have had from a car forum - fast & complete, even with diagrams. I will have a go when the ice melts off my car. Thanks for your trouble. Regards.
  13. Hello - LS430 Year 2000 - switching the PWR/Normal/Snow switch to Snow the other week it came loose and disappeared into the dash. The switch is still visiable but rattling loose inside it's mounting hole. Can that single panel be pulled out or does the whole lower dash have to come out? I am reluctant to use too much force without knowing how, or if, it is simply clipped into place. Are these switches simply clipped into place to the back of this panel or have I broken something? Is it possible to stck something onto the face of the switch and pull it back into place? Any help or suggestions please.
  14. Hi - can you get hold of the bulbs from your reverse lights and brake lights. It is easy ( for an expert) to tell if they were lit on impact if the filament was then broken. Clearly if your reverse lights were not lit you can prove you did not reverse into him. It is also quite hard to have your brake lights on while reversing ( but possible). You would need to get an avadavit sworn by your vehicle repairer that these were the actual bulbs. The Police use this as evidence regularly to prove accident history. PM me it you need more. Regards.
  15. Hi -see your point -I was just adding my pennys worth for those who are debating the choice of Merc/BMW/Lexus flagships. There may be potential Ls owners who have not had the chance to drive several of these vehicles within a short timescale. I am a motor dealer - so have experience of driving hundreds of cars - if anyone wishes to contact me re this they can do so via my website at click herewww.cartocar.co.uk
