Hey Kudos. I'm also in NZ and have a similar problem.
12 months ago I went through the whole power-steering leaking into the alternator scenario.
From what I can remember they just cleaned out the alternator and replcaed the power steering pump and I was away again.
Just recently the alternator has stopped charging the battery.
I'm wondering if I'm going to need to completely replace the alternator.
There's a guy here in Hamilton selling them brand new for ~$500.
I'm really hoping there's a cheaper option! Any info would be great.
