  1. Why does it having an electronic throttle make it fine for the engine to continue to rev for a second or two after releasing the throttle? My IS200 never done that nor have any of the other IS200s I have driven. When you come off the throttle the revs should start to die instantly, although it may take longer for the engine to reach idle than on other cars. The only time you can tell the use of the electronic throttle is if you blip the pedal when idling and the engine revs up after you have come off the throttle! Are you sure the revs stay up for 2 seconds??? apsaauga, the vibration is not normal.
  2. What is the fuel graded as in NZ? I guess not RON. If it's PON, the same as the US, then 91 is fine - that is the same as 95RON which we use in the UK.
  3. Yes the IS200 uses the OBD-II standard, I believe all cars sold in Europe since 2000 have to.
  4. as Rod said a second press of the lock button will turn off the interior sensors and you will get 5 indicator flashes to confirm. Pressings again will turn them back on again.
  5. Lexus were going to release the 430 sport and therefore kitted out a bunch of SEs but they were unhappy to use the old sport suspension due to poor performance. However it took Lexus another 2 years to come up with a solution and in the mean time the kitted out SEs were sold off with standard suspension. In 2003 they finally have a solution they were happy with and therefore started to modify SEs again but this time with the full upgrade and officially released the Sport. It has modified springs, shocks and anti-roll bars over the standard SE. The old sport (1999-2000) only have modified springs.
  6. I think the main reason people notice a different is because they disconnect the battary whilst fitting the wires and therefore reset the engine ECU and clear the learned transmission settings. I made sure the battery stayed connected when fitting mine and didn't notice any difference. Saying that most people notice a difference in e-shift rather than anything else, something that my car doesn't have.
  7. 430s came in late 2000 but the sports pack didn't appear until a few months later and the real sport came out in 2003.
  8. That oil is fine (I know a Lexus dealer that actually uses the same oil), you do not have to use fully synthetic although I would recommend it if you are doing short journeys or if it will be 12 months before the next change.
  9. very difficult to find somewhere where you can get wheels balanced 'on car' in this country.
  10. I found the Microsoft product good at stopping infection. However it's not so good at removing things if they get on your machine.
  11. You need both. Most spyware etc. arrive via email or from normal TCP port 80 http web traffic. You need to allow those through your firewall or you won't be able to do much on the Internet!
  12. very easy to test diodes with a multimeter it is has a diode function.
  13. Maybe a good price for the UK but you can get better Denso plugs on ebay US cheaper.
  14. The spring limits the rate the lid closes. The boot will only pop open, it is not meant to fully open.
  15. It will affect your insurance even if you get Lexus wheels (maybe not as much) as you are modifying the vehicle. Even if they don't charge extra it should still be listed on your policy otherwise if you claim and they see the 'modification' they could reject the claim. I was quoted £30 extra for wheels. Also they may not actually be fully covered, if they need to be replaced because of an accident they would only replace with standard wheels (or maybe only pay for standard and the owner pay the extra).
  16. I think you could get that discount. Try searching the web for brokers, get a price and then see if your dealer will match it, else go with the broker - it may well be supplied by your dealer anyway.
  17. Are you talking about the air intake temperature sensor?
  18. Try working out the mpg yourself rather than looking at the fuel computer as I've seen sugestions that it isn't that accurate.
  19. There are quite a few LS400s in scrap yards. If they haven't used LPG the heads should be fine.
  20. Driving speeds tend to be lower in the US so there doesn't need to be as much soundproofing.
  21. That first part is the spec of the RX300 not the 400h. The new hybrid platform has cost millions of £, Toyota would not waste their time developing two different ones that produce the same power and economy output. I cannot believe the people who run the Lexus GB and Lexus Euro web sites have not been sacked, so many errors are put up time and time again.
