  1. I just spent 30 minutes writing a full guide and because of my stupid internet connection that went down due to many pics I lost everything..... ffffffffffffffffffff........................................kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk Attaching just the photos for now because if i keep writing i will break the keyboard.
  2. When it comes to satisfaction, money is no obligation. Question is, are you pleased with the money you spent? If I want to do something to my car I will make sure money I put in to it is well invested so that there is no collateral damage. Hi cue, this SS tip is very good quality, when we chopped it half i was surprised to see that it even has sound deadening material sandwiched between the outer pipe and the inside one. It fits the bumper cut very well, even though i have to say maybe an oval tip would fit even better. Rgds G.T.
  3. Hi fonserg, I have put a small oil breather filter on my crankcase and block the hole of the air intake. There is a lot of smoke and oil coming out from the small filter, does this mean that my rings are gone? Are you using an oil catch tank? Thanks G.T.
  4. Great post fonserg, Other than the EGR bypass modification have you done anything else on your car?
  5. Hi Paul, I bought one of those: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160453353261 and welded it on for 20 euro at a local exhaust shop. I kind off did it together with the guy at the shop. if you plan to do it also please note the following: Chop the angled original pipe but leave one centimetre. Unhook the exhaust from one side and by touching the front side of the tip to the main part of the exhaust mark where you have to cut it. You need to cut more than half of the original stainless steel tip. Once it is cut, it will fit like a glove over the 1 centimeter you have left of the original tip You have to weld it from the inside of the tip. Also because of the position the original outlet is located the tip will be facing slightly downwards but you won't be able to notice this if you look at it from a distance of 2-3 meters away. I can tell you one thing, It will transform the rear end of your car...
  6. Interesting thread. Personally I would have been very happy if they had used the engine block of the IS250 and set up on the top of that the turbo and the rest diesel anchilaries rather than using the 2.2 d4d engine. The power output should match the 250 since I think the weight difference between the two is very small. I guess torque would be something that would have to look as the 400N/m of the 220 is way higher than the 250. I guess the econimic factor played its role on that decision. G.T.
  7. Hi Maliggno, I'm trying to find out the diameter of the sensor hole so that I can get a T joiner like this one below: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8-8AN-Flare-Tee-T-Adapter-Female-Side-/160619046674?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2565a42712 One male side will bolt onto the existing threads of the tube, on the female one I will bolt the sensor and on the one that is left I will attach the pipe coming from the EGR. Do you remember what is the diameter of the threaded hole? Cheers G.T.
  8. Thanks very much for the photos and explanation. what tuning box have you installed? ;) The cheapest one i found at ebay... all are the same. Only works fine at level 4 http://cgi.ebay.es/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190509911843&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:IT:1123 He he, I have the same.... Initially I set it to 6 and until 3000 rpm the car was transformed to a demon but when I revved it to 4.500 it went into limp mode and had to set it lower. I have it at 3 at the moment which is pretty good also.
  9. Thanks very much for the photos and explanation. what tuning box have you installed? ;)
  10. Ciao Ulisse, Thanks for your feedback. Have a look at my other thread, http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=69080 Of course I'm going to used an oil breather or a catch tank and not send oil vapour to the egr, this is not new to me. I want to do the bypass but I need to know which way is more efficient. Connect the egr to the air intake or the port where the AIT sits, why after the turbo is better than before the turbo? What T connector did you use? Do you have the diameters? Can you take a photo of the connector itself maybe? Once I have all I need I will make a step by step guide with photos for everyone that wants to do the same. Knowledge that isn't shared is useless, so please enlight me. Mille gracie G.T.
  11. Hi Ulisse, I see in fonserg's photos that he used the turbo air temperature sensor hole to send air to the valve. I have a question, where is this sensor now? Is it just hanging around there? On another thread there is a video where the egr is fed with air through the oil breather hole. What is your opinion on that? Thanks G.T.
  12. Hello fonserg,

I'm ready to do the EGR bypass on my 220d.

Can you take a couple of more photos if you can please and send them to me?

    My email is georgios.tzoras@gmail.com.

In your photo I see that you used the turbo temperature sensor appeture. Where did you put the sensor then?

Could you please explain it with some more details?

  13. So what you will need to do the bypass: 1 metre heater pipe with diameter 15-16mm http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160544764883&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT 1 reducer from 25mm to 16mm http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300458865230&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT The reducer is needed because the egr pipe is one inch (25mm) and a one inch tube will be too large to pass it around the front of the engine. 4 clips http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330382583250&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT 1 oil breather filter http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300553664381&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT I'm going to use the breather instead of a Tee joiner. The reason for that, I have been using it for 6 years on my 180 hp alfa 156 and the air intake was so much cleaner after installing it. All the oil from the crankcase sits around the intake pipe and makes a layer of crap. I prefer my air intake to be clean. I have been trying to find a cheap used EGR pipe but without luck so far. I would prefer to take mine out and chop the other one so in case I want to take out the bypass pipe I can still have my egr pipe. Will let you know how I'm going to do it. Rgds G.T.
  14. Hi Rav, Thanks very much for the information. I have been searching every where in order to find out the dimensions of our intercooler. As we see in your pic. it's rather large and I'm not sure whether it will add any benefit by installing a smaller one behind the lower grill. My only concern with the standard one it that is very thin, just 25 milimetres. The ones I have been looking are smaller on size but almost 3 times thicker 65mm. I have to be carefull though not to drop the turbo pressure by adding a thicker intercooler. The dimensions of the standard one can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180609391265&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT The thing is, I WILL try it. :) If it adds any benefit then I will keep it, if not I will take it out. Cheers G.T.
  15. Ciao Walter, Thanks for your translation. I asked a Portuguese colleague at work and he explained to me what the Spanish guy has done. At the moment I'm getting all the things needed in order to do the bypass. It will all cost me around 25 euro and about 2 hours work time. Once I receive all the parts I will make a guide for anyone else that might be interested in doing it. Rgds G.T.
  16. Nobody is interested in blanking his EGR valve? Hm then please read this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation In diesel engines By feeding the lower oxygen exhaust gas into the intake, diesel EGR systems lower combustion temperature, reducing emissions of nitrous oxides. This makes combustion less efficient, compromising economy and power. Diesel EGR also increases soot production, though this was mitigated in the US by the simultaneous introduction of diesel particulate filters.[5] EGR systems can also add abrasive contaminants and increase engine oil acidity, which in turn can reduce engine longevity.
  17. Check this out guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCzXQ0dVHis This is very simple to do if the fix is permanent. Instead of dirty fumes you send clean fresh air into the cylinders. Does anybody know Spanish?
  18. I want to do the whole install very stealthy. These are the intercoolers that I'm thinking of installing. They are pretty cheap but the engine is going to run way better due to the lower intake temperatures. http://d3d71ba2asa5oz.cloudfront.net/82056660/images/mmint-uzb%203.jpg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310204072463&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT It is going to be painted all black and I will try to match the color of the area behind the lower front grill so that nobody notices it. If somebody has tried that before or has an idea of what size intercooler I can fit in there please comment. Cheers GT
  19. Has anybody seen the standard intercooler of the 220d? Is it big enough? I'm thinking of buying an aftermarket thicker one and installing behind the lower grill? I'm hoping to drop the air intake temperature and get some more power from that. Amy comments of feedback would be appreciated. Cheers GT
  20. I upgraded my halogen projector headlights to xenon about 6 months ago. In my other car, 156 selespeed i had some cheap chinese ones but this time, on my new car i bought an original, german made philips kit with 35w and 6000k colour. My link The difference initially was huge but 6 months later and when i compare it with the light output of some modern BMWs or some other Lexus models which have xenon as standard, mine is way less. I mean it is not so strong when there is some other sources of light around. In complete darkness they are very good. So I'm thinking of changing the kit i have now (35w) to a 55w or maybe to a 75w. Has anybody tried anything higher than 35watts? The 55w I guess will produce the same ammount of heat as the standard halogen bulbs but I'm a bit worried about the 75w. I'm not even considering the 100w kit... Any comments/feedback will be highly appreciated. Rgds G.T.
  21. Hi there, very nice set up, like mine... what brand and wattage are these hid kits? Rgds
  22. Hi Shazy, I changed the oil and filter on my 220 SE two weeks ago with Castrol Magnatec 5w 30 A1 fully synthetic. There was a 20% promotion at the local Halfrauds and got 2 x 4 litres for 70 euro plus an oil filter for 6,5 euro plus 15 euro for the labour at the garage. I didn't go for the more expensive Magnatec Edge which has the same specification cause I couldn't find any difference when using it for years on my other car. A very good oil in my opinion is Comma Motorsport 5w50 fully synthetic, you have the 5w for the cold starts in the mornings plus the 50 figure which helps when the car is spirited driven at 4 - 5k rpm. In my opinion it's the best combination but as it is my first oil change on this car I decided to follow the manufacturer's specifications. Rgds George
