  1. Good day everyone, I tried this post a week or so ago but was reminded that you have to be a gold member to discuss selling anything -- apologies club moderators. Three years ago I sold my GS 250 Fsport [via the dealership] and the new owners rejected my winter tires. These have been lounging in dry storage [at the dealership] since the summer of 2013 . I need to dispose of them now to fee up space for my next set of winters for my GS300h [ different rim sizes from the F sport as you will know]. Is anyone able to advise me on the on the best way to sell the tires - or indeed would like to buy them ? best wishes, Roger
  2. Dear fellow IS300h owners, I have had my new IS300h Premier for 5 months now. I find it to be an excellent choice as a saloon with comfort and nice features to enjoy, and I do love it a lot. The only gripe I now have, and indeed have seen comments from others on, is that with the [admittedly very nice] 18" rims and wide bootlace tyres you feel every dammed pebble on the road. My partner is complaining that a trip of more than an hour is uncomfortable, and, as usually happens, since she mentioned it, I am now conscious of the bumps too. My previous car was a GS250 F sport and that was bit sensitive to road surface - but I do think this IS is a bit worse. The ride on modern, smooth, tarmac is great. Does anyone agree that if I were to swap the 18" for 17" rims that would improve the isolation from the impact of the average British road surface??
  3. Hi steve44 Yes. I have about 300 phone numbers in the handset. I want maybe 20 as car contacts, it seems that if I have addresses entered into the phone under the name (usually what one has for friends of course) then the paired bluetooth will not transfer, so I end up with about 250 car contacts I don't want as I would never use them. I have entered my car numbers manually now and turned off the auto sync. Cheers. roger
  4. Thanks DJP, It's the only aspect of the marque that is a bit disappointing - I'm surprised that a quality Japanese manufacturer cannot provide a fully compatible electronics package in 2014. My phone is a Samsung and so isn't an obscure type - I dare say you are correct that there are too many options to cater for. The website does have a listing of which phones are meant to be fully operational - with the wireless and the phone link updates etc. - but it asks for a type number for the Bluetooth which is not visible on the car software - well, I can't see it . I have entered a few favourite phone numbers manually, as, for me, the ones I want in the car have address fields filled in on my mobile and so won't transfer. I find it a bit sad that I can't use all the niceties the handbook says are available in my car. I may ask the dealership if they have a computer/phone wizard to see if they can get any further with it. All said - I love my car very much and do not hold these few problems against it. best wishes,
  5. Good day everyone, Can anyone come up with a list of FULLY compatible mobile handsets for the [ IS300h premium] premium navigation system? I had a similar hassle with my previous car - GS250 F sport - where my Samsung galaxy S3 mini would not transfer contacts which had the address field added to the contact to the car system, and I could never get the thing to talk to the internet. Is it the handset, the service provider [ I've got Vodafone pay as you go], or the car computer/navigation unit ?? many thanks in anticipation. Roger
  6. Hello People, This may not be a wholly new topic but I can't find an answer so it may be. How on earth can I get my Samsung Galaxy S3 mini to communicate all the phone contacts to the car? I have tried everything that I can think of - I have surfed the net for advice but no - it will not do it. I can download some of the contacts in the phone - maybe 60% - but the others refuse to be sent. I have looked at the details of the ones which go and the ones which don't and can't see any pattern. I have deleted both the car memory and the phone memory and tried the reloaded versions - no joy. The most bizarre thing was that I did manage to download the whole lot; can't remember how I did it [ I think I had downloaded an app to manage Bluetooth ] but each number had the third or fourth last digit altered - seemingly at random- so every number was wrong. A great help !!! Can anyone help me? GOT IT the system will not transfer a contact if the address tab is used. I just had to delete the address in the contacts I wanted to transfer in the phone and then connect to the car and it works. I hope this helps any others with the same hassle. R.

  8. GS 250 ? - a super car. I have had mine since February. Not done too many miles since then unfortunately as illness has got in the way - but I can say that every mile has been a joy. The car is smooth and quiet - even with its 19 in wheels and bootlace tires. The steering and power train are excellent - it is quite a big car but so easy to park it with the parking sensors and the reversing camera. Got lots of toys to play with and to set up, and then fiddle with - I'll stop doing that eventually!! I can only compare this car to my previous IS250 [which I loved] - this GS is entirely different in so many ways - certainly in comfort and ease of driving [ it is a newer car to be fair]. I have no regrets in lashing out to buy one of these lovely cars. [from Lexus Coventry - excellent service ]. best wishes
  9. Hello all you GS owners. Last week I traded in my old friend [iS250 SE-L] and now am the proud owner of a new GS250 F-Sport in Sonic Silver. We have done 50 miles so far and I'm still getting all the electronics set up - I had a bit of fun with the dipping side mirrors; didn't realise that I had to set them to where I want them dipped when reverse is selected - then they work anyway, must go, got some more miles to clock up best wishes, Roger
  10. The simple answer is NO - it is not that bad. I have compared these magazine reviews against cars I have owned or driven over the years and sometimes it is almost impossible to relate the reviews to your own experience !! My IS250 SEL auto is now 6 years old - I bought it 2 years ago so we have covered driving in some ghastly winter conditions and some ghastly summer conditions ! - about 18K miles. The car has had some persistent clunks when driving over [through] potholes and these dammed depressed manholes [ that UK road repairers don't seem to notice or give a damn about ], all of which are covered by comments in this forum, and road noise, which is quite loud on some of our lovely gravelly road surfaces [ modern tarmac is fine]. I changed the front Potenzas to Toyo's and that made an improvement. I love the car --- it is an IS, which stands for Intelligent Sport, so it is meant to be a bit stiffer and firmer in its ride; cornering is great. I acknowledge that I have not driven BMW's, Mercs and the like, so I may be criticised for lack of comparators, but I think my IS is a great car to drive - fun - powerful enough for me - stable - quiet enough - smooth transmission. A very nice car.
  11. hi Steadly, welcome to the club I got my 2006 IS250 SE-L a couple of years ago, and don't regret a minute of it. It is a lovely car to drive - you should have many hours of driving pleasure ahead Service at 50K is expensive [ I assume you're around that figure] so I suggest you take out a service deal [ if you intend to have it serviced at a dealer]. There may be the odd squeaks and noises - this forum is loaded with information and advice, so if you're worried about anything just check it out here. most of all - drive it and enjoy it. best wishes
  12. The tapping noise is due to the injectors [ confirmed to me by the dealership] and the whining noise is normal; drive to alternator etc.. So don't worry - unless the noise level worsens, then check it out. My engine taps more noticeably when it is cold [ on "choke" of course] and eases off a lot as the engine warms up. The whining noise is fairly constant, well in the background, more noticeable as the revs increase. The problem [not a problem really !] with these cars is that they are so quiet inside that you become tuned into the little noises and taps and ticks. Lower the window a few mm and it all disappears My car has the clunk from the B post - it is the seat belt tensioner/clamp, which needs to have some slack in it to allow the belt to move; that used to concern me until I worked out what it is. I need to hit a fairly substantial hole in the road for it to really clunk - and I do try to avoid them !! hope that helps
  13. Dear all, The time has come to change the fronts - does anyone out there recommend a good wearing, low noise , good in the wet, tyre type ? We do about 8K a year and do not hurtle around corners a lot. We've got Bridgstone Potenzas on at the moment . many thanks, Roger
  14. My car has done 60K . The drivers seat is really comfortable - albeit there is a solidish spot just under the bit where your bum ends up - feels like a strut - but it hasn't been a problem over many hours of driving. I will mention it when we go in for our next service and see what the dealer makes of it. This is my first Lexus and also the first car with leather. Reupholstering sounds expensive, and colours may not match of course [if that is a concern], but that is what I'd pursue if the seat leather is damaged or wearing excessively. best wishes Roger
  15. thanks for that - good point about heated windscreens - i was told by someone [ maybe at the dealers] that Ford has the [unique] licence for fitting heated screens - the other point was the expense, but if blessed Ford can fit 'em ----- ???? roger
  16. can anyone help me with this - I am not sure how much heat the windscreen "wiper" heater is meant to give out and actually how it is intended to be used. it was -4 c this morning and I switched the wiper heater control on from cold start to attempt to clear residual ice as I drive away. After a short time - 5 minutes or so - I checked the heat at the bottom of the windscreen but it was quite cool - and the heat from the engine heating was then starting to come through anyway. Is that area designed to get hot quickly, and are you meant to put the controls to manual - screen - fan to high, to blow the hot air up to the screen to de-ice ? thanks Roger

I bought some snow socks for my IS250 [just a pair for the rear] - the main thinking is that as soon as I've spent good money on an accessory it won't be needed - so if no one has much trouble with slipping and sliding this year it's all down to me :hohoho: I haven't tried them on yet ! - tyre/body clearances are bit tight but I've also included in the boot kit an old pair of pond gloves to keep hands and arms clean when fitting/removing the socks. best wishes

  19. Hi, I don't think there should be a noticeable delay in changing gears with temperature. I have a 250 and drove it through last winter [unlike a lot of our colleagues ] at down to -15C; it changed gears as usual. I suspect you need to get the transmission checked out, the gearbox/power train is controlled by software and it is possible that there is a problem there at cold temperatures - or something with the actual box/torque converter itself. Does it change 4/5/6 ok ? The power setting, PCT, alters the shift to higher rpm [ more power/torque] and engine management to allow sportier characteristics. best wishes

The rattle on start up from cold is a problem known by Lexus and there's a TSIB for it (Technical Service Information Bulletin) discussed many times in this forum, and here's a link to one http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=54369 Ahhhhh thanks for that - looks like i'm in good company on this topic my car's extended warranty runs out this summer so i'd better ask the question about its history in case it was looked at before for this fault. cheers
  21. Hi all, I suspect I know what I need to do, but anyway: on cold starting I SOMETIMES get a loudish rattle from the engine for a half second or so. I suspect hydraulic tappets or maybe a chain tensioner - any comments or ideas?? I probably need to visit the dealer - however intermittent faults usually never happen when a mechanic is near!! best wishes

  23. Hi everyone, This has been raised before - but no resolution as far as i can see. Reversing - is it possible to lower and then lock the new position of the wing mirrors in memory ? mine will lower further manually but i cannot see how to save the setting [if possible] my car is a 2006 IS250 SE-L.

Hi all, I agree with the comments about the boot - i was wondering if there is supposed to be a gas strut assistance ? but maybe not; I'm going to check with the dealer next time I'm over there. Rattles and creaks - yes, there are a few, particularly bangs from the doors going over some of these ruddy potholes we now are blessed with !! I fixed the worst of the door clunks with the forum suggestion of putting some tape on the B post latch loop - yes I know, it's a Lexus, but, heavy doors and all that, and it is really quiet on decent roads !! no other negative comments from me guys, it is dream to drive - auto box is superb and everything works I decided against a car with the multimedia package, because I've got a good SatNav, - but i have heard about this mod to fit a popup SatNav holder - anyone know about that? Noisy tires ? - well, large diameter rims and bootlace tires are well known to be much noisier than the good old big boots. cheers
