  1. Just looked at that review and the Falken tyre they are reviewing is different from the Falken I have on my car. mine are Falken ZE912. Mike The original tyres on my LS430 were Dunlop SP270 - and they are still available. They were not bad but I found it hard to get more than 20K miles out of them. Michelin were the best so far 26K - I am trying Kumo at the moment. Bren I cant tell you what type of Dunlops were fitted to the 400 at production but according to those more learned than my self they aren't available any more and that the Falken ZE912 still made by Dunlop are the replacements. Mike
  2. Can anyone tell me where I might find the fuse for the Mobile Phone in my 98 LS400? Mike
  3. Haha top candidate for worst choice of car for a mini cab ever!! Well that should upset Pete. Have you never heard of LPG ??????????????????? Mike No idea who Pete is. In fact I have no idea how we've ended up talking about an LPG IS200 mini cab? Because this is the LS part of LOC I stupidly and thats because I am very old thought you were talking about LS's as minicabs. There you go another senior moment. Mike Oh Pete??? He will be on here later tonight or early Mon am when he has finished Taxiing as he is a Professional Taxiologist and uses an LS400.

  6. May be worth looking at Falken tyres (I understand are made by Dunlops) as they are a direct replacement for the Dunlops (no longer available) that LS 400 1998 came with. Mike Hi the Falkens come up as being really noisy I have had them on my LS400 for nearly 3 years and never noticed any difference in noise. They are meant to be a straight replacement for the Dunlops that were originally supplied so cant see how they would be any noisier. Mike

  8. Modern engines all have hardened valves and valve seats to run on non leaded petrol and running on LPG is no difference. The flash lube systems were pushed in the early days of LPG when lots of engines still hadn't been modified to run on Non leaded petrol but there is no reason for them today. Mike
  9. Perhaps it was just a friendly garage just to let you know they needed replacing. Mike
  10. I would have thought that Lexus LSs are exempt from having bonnet struts not working as there is never any need to open it anyway. Mike
  11. This is the first time I have ever heard of having special spark plugs because of running on LPG and I have been using LPG now for the past 16 years. Mike Marketing BS I suppose Mike - hey I bought a Flash Lube system :) I did like the LPG needs a stonger spark comment - I think that guy is missing his spark. Bren Hi Bren. I have never had a Flash Lube system either and have never had a single problem. Mike

  13. We all keep an eye out for cars when we know LOC members are looking for a car. Other places to look other than Ebay.. Piston Heads. Autotrader LOC site Just put into Google the following "For Sale Lexus LS 400" You will be amazed how many that will bring up. Don't forget don't rush into a deal because you haven't got a car. These LS's are becoming rarer every passing week but there are some great cars out there. Always good to try and get one from an existing LOC member as 99% of them look after their cars. Most important thing apart from a full service history is make sure the timing belt has been changed and you need to see an invoice not just a sticker in the engine bay. Its all common sense and you seem to have that by the bucket load. Mike
  14. Numpty ?? Definitely not. You are 100% right to walk away from cars with shoddy interiors especially worn steering wheels as cars with 150K+ on them are still difficult to spot wear on the steering wheels etc. The interiors are something special and even if a company car where the driver doesn't much care for the interior etc wont show much wear. Use you eyes and believe what they are telling you. There is no such thing as a car that cant have the mileage fiddled with. You are going about it in the right way and you will find the car you are after with patience. Good hunting Mike PS Where are my manners? Welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and you can always ask questions on possible purchases, many of them we already know as they have been on the market in some cases years.
  15. a Bentley with a VW badge. Great value for money at the moment. Go for the W12 engine and LPG conversion. Brilliant car. Mike
  16. If you don't ask you don't get, well done you for trying and succeeding. Mike
  17. Hey Mike, No they didn't say there was any damage to the lines, maybe it was the parts to go with the tank? the tank it's self was £370 pounds plus some other parts totalling £200 more, and the labour was about £500, so in total £1100. I am trying to find info on a some people wrecking LS430s and see if I can pick up a good second hand one? Don't know what to do to be honest. Know any good lexus parts people in the UK either new or second hand? Cheers Check these two out on ebay both are being dismantled but on e has rear end damage. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-430-4-3-auto-5sp-BREAKING-FOR-SPARES-AND-REPAIRS-/150984741999?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item232764546f http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-430-4-3-Premium-Pack-auto-BREAKING-FOR-SPARES-AND-REPAIRS-/150984742105?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item23276454d9 Good luck Mike
  18. Repairing tanks is possible there are companies that can do it, Why are they replacing some of the fuel lines? has there been damage around that area at all? Mike
  19. Hi Norman, Yes I followed your story, I have to say all my guy had to do was pull off 2 plastic caps hiding 2 Phillips screws, undo those, pull the complete light unit out, unscrew the offending bulb and replace. Took less than 2 minutes. Mike
  20. Crikey you lost me on that one. I'm sure someone can help. Mike I'll try again. My emergency power pack does not clip directly onto the car's battery terminals. It charges a flat car battery through the cigarette lighter socket, however the ingnition switch has to be in the 'accesories' position. With a starter button there has to be power in the car battery to get to the acc position. The emergency starter is not meant to replace a normal charger, rather its for use when away from home, such as returnung to an airport car park after a long trip to find a flat battery. Something like this: http://choiceful.com...=product+search Hi Mick. not everyone is as daft and as old as I am so don't worry that your question wasn't clear enough in the first place its just me. Good luck Mike
  21. My brake warning light came on in the bad weather, that's the one with a circle that has a show either side and an exclamation mark in the circle. Owners handbook tells you to check the brake fluid level and check to see if your parking brake is off. This I did but both were OK so took it to my village garage who has been doing our cars for years and his Dad before him, he checked both and found no problem, wait a minute he said lets check the brake lights and sure enough the off side brake light was bust 2 mins and £5 for the tea and biscuits fund saw everything back to normal but why doesn't the handbook say to check brake lights? I have kept the bulb just in case I can make a warranty claim against Lexus for a faulty bulb after all its only 15 years old. Mike
