  1. I have a 2010 RX450h and about 3 months ago fitted new original part replacements. Standard shocks on my model, not air suspension. I had 80k miles on the clock and as I am planning on keeping it for a while I thought I would get the benefits of new shocks. Mild improvement, with hindsight I may have opted for KYB, I see on US forums they get a great name. Front and rear shocks were 270 from Birmingham Lexus and I paid 120 to have them fitted. Mechanic fitted new roll bars at the time as they were rotten he said. Trust him implicitly. I think it says more about British roads than Lexus suspension, just back from Mallorca where the roads are the best I have ever driven on, even a Lotus Elise would have been like a Rolls Royce.
  2. Silicon spray on the window guides really makes the windows rise and fall very smoothly. Also, extend your seat belt to the max and spray the belt with silicone spray, let it dry for 10 minutes and your seat belts retract again like new. Really good stuff to have in the car.
  3. Now that you illustrate it, seems likely that would do for the engine... Hope insurance covers it. poor old Zubair
  4. I've had my 2010 RX450h for 21 months, I've averaged 33.5 mpg in that period according to the computer. On a long run in Scotland I can get about 39 mpg, in the depths of winter it drops to 28 mpg, never lower. As 80% of my driving is urban I'm happy enough with those figures, but, what a porky from the dealers!
  5. As your car will be 5 years old you should consider Lexus Essential Care, i think that will keep the costs down. The big service is the 6 years / 60000 miles and I think that's been included. That should keep the warranty happy. I've enclosed a screenshot of Lexus Essential Care. The calculation they use is slightly misleading, over 3 years it's circa £32 a month, not bad for the care and standards they use. Glasgow Lexus certainly doesn't charge for valet and washing. Pollen Filter is so simple it's untrue, and filters for less than £10 on ebay. Certainly not as cheap as your indie however necessary for warranty. I did the same as you, 3 years warranty and I took the service plan. You should see what Audi charge for servicing in Glasgow btw. Enjoy your new steed. Ed
  6. Oh well, it is serviced in December, i'll let them have a look at it and ask if it would be covered. Thanks for the responses, as usual, Guys Ed
  7. Hi, quick question, I was having my tracking checked this morning, and I popped a couple of photos of the underside. I see the CV rubber boot is looking worn at the wheel end. Photo attached. It's a 2010 car and under the Lexus warranty, I bought an additional two years at purchase time. Would this be covered? If not I'll get my indy to look at it. Thanks everyone. Ed
  8. It's been a great series of write ups, thank you very much. Glad you went with standard wheels, looks better imho.
  9. What a chariot Jonathan, well done, should fortune smile upon me I may be tempted myself....
  10. Sounds like a loose bit of engine compartment trim or one of the many exhaust shields, we had it on our CT, eventually went away. Doesn't sound ominous. Start again with hood up and see if you can get nearer to sound. Wouldn't think it warrants a trip to the dealer. Good luck
  11. Hope you get a chance to do some fishing, great time of year up there.
  12. All very well Sorcerer, until you try that trick with a Sherlock Holmes audio book........
  13. I wouldn't bother claiming, unless the 3rd party has significant damage, most smart repairers would carry out a perfectly adequate job, it's 15 years old and you could run it for quite some time I'd bet. Insurers love to bump up premiums for years for such claims. Hope it ends well for you. Ed
  14. I too had an IS300 Sportcross, my 2nd favourite car, my current steed, a 2010 RX450 has really won me over with it's practicality. Just back from a holiday in the Hebrides where it performed sterling service.
  15. A bad year for midges too, I'm off to Colonsay in a week's time, hopefully there will be a breeze.....
  16. I think it's the rear seats that rattle, fold the centre section down and it goes silent! One other thing, gave it a quick wash and a brilliant product Rayaans put me on to, Sonax BSD. Unfortunately i found two areas of rust developing. Right at the bottom of the front small quarterlight. Obviously rain trickles down the a pillar and collects. Haven't heard anyone else notice this, any chance you guys could have a close look under the chrome trim? Doubt Lexus will show any interest, they say rust has to come from below the paintwork! Any thoughts? Thanks as always Ed
  17. I once bought a sports suspension package for a Honda Accord 2.4 Tourer, only problem was I didn't actually have the car, just planned on buying one next. Of course it never happened. Luckily I bought cheap, it was Ebay and managed to cover my losses, not my embarrassment !
  18. Was idly sitting on Ebay when I spotted genuine Lexus rear shocks at £58 a pop delivered, it was late, i had had a glass of wine and thought why not? Today i contacted the dealer and ordered the front shocks, that twas £100 a pop, standard shocks, not air suspension. My query is this, my car has done 80k miles, it's now 8 years old and I do carry heavyish loads of honey. Do you think this was a silly purchase, I can have them fitted by a local very trusted garage, do you think I will notice any improvement? I plan to keep the car for a few years so might as well get any benefit rather than wait for an MOT failure? Any thoughts out there. Thanks for your opinions and thoughts, great forum Ed
  19. Hi Ronald, if by any chance you found a cure...... EG, where to pack towels etc. I for one would be very grateful. Ed
  20. Hi, i previously had an IS300 in blue, like yours, however it was a bit darker. Best car I ever had. I'm enclosing a pic as it shows the suspension height looking almost identical. Unless you want to lower it, and I suspect the ride would become firmer, I don't think there is anything wrong there. You have a very rare car there. Enjoy it Ed
  21. I had a similar issue, perversely I had to turn OFF summer daytime savings from the Set up menu on my 2010 RX450. Good luck, it really annoyed me too.
