  1. Intermitted issues with LS430 rear back-up camera. When the car is started and placed in reverse the screen appears black/blank. However if I wait 30 seconds the camera image will come on and stay on for all subsequent reverse positions until switched off. If however the car is driven within the first 30 seconds of being in reverse the camera stays off permenantly when placed in reverse. I am tending towards this being an ECU computer control module in the boot issue, since the camera itself appears to be working. Has anyone had this issue before, whether they have seen a service bulletin for this, or whether it can be confirmed as an ECU replacement issue? (04) LS 430 145k with PCS in UK, and an (04) LS 430 83k with Ultra Luxury Package & PCS in Florida USA.
  2. Dear Mike/Alan, Indeed the LS 430 was the first Lexus configuration to have the soft close (or power) door/trunk options both in the US and UK markets (it may be that some earlier Toyota Celsiors sold in Japan might have had this option before 2001 but I am doubtful on this). The 2000 model year LS400 is distinguished by Brake Assist and Automatic Folding Mirrors. The soft close doors were options included only on the Premium Pack models for 2000-2003 (spanning 2001-3 model years)on UK cars, and the Ultra and Custom Luxury versions sold in the US market. From October 2003 on the UK facelift models had the soft close options as standard - indeed the only differentiating option being the Automantic Cruise Control (ACC) / Pre Collision System (PCS),other than colours, wheels and interior trim etc. In the US there were 4 main specifications of car; the top being the Ultra Luxury (everything including Radar Based Cruise Control with PCS, Nappa Ecru Leather and grey ed wooded veneer trim) and Custom Luxury (different laser-guided cruise control, sonar-based Intuitive Parking Assist, DVD navigation system , air suspension, power door closers headlight wash , but not PCS) Note in the US the standard car did have a power trunk/boot closer, but not even Sat Nav/ Mark Levinson sound system which came only as part of the optional upgrade from the standard car known as the Modern Luxury Package inc Bluetooth etc) but even this did not have Air Suspension but springs! Trust this helps, Richard
  3. List price is around 167 plus Vat from Lexus parts, but shop around as may save a fiver - given dealerships are self governing!. These are colour coded Denso models as fitted to LS430, 2001 on, with a basic two pin plastic wiring connector & clip; However you should note that there are two sensor types on both front and rear bumpers, but these are not obvious from viewing the service parts fiche - so you should clearly identify their location; the large ones are situated inside centre front and rear bumper; the rear has two smaller ones each end the front bumper a pair each side. The electronics will usually correctly identify with 'the check parking sonar' which is out; but you can find more than one has failed as the sonar highlights these sequentially. You can also feel the vibration of the sonar when it is working; usually the paint coating fails on the centres or more often the flexibility in the sensor outer membrane hardens, preventing the sonar system working. FYI Some owners in the US have succesfully stripped the paint back with suitable wetsanding paper and revived them or used penetrating oil to restore the dried out inflexible outer. The outer ones at the front are accessible via the wheel arch covers and you do not need to remove the entire bumper to change these two on each side - you should still loosen the upper and lower fixing lugs on the appropriate side though. On the older models a new clip (circa 4 pounds) is advisable as these can go brittle due to the nature of the metal clips & plastic hinges - although not strictly necessary - it saves the petrol costs of going back to the dealership should you find you need one with the bumper off! My advice based on owning a quality car and having basic DIY skills must be to bite the bullet; because making these inoperable via the dash button accentuates further minor collision damage which can be very expensive indeed; and although the aftermarket alternatives are cheap enough, you are doubling up on the labour to fit these (two bumpers off completely, typically) and the product is unlikely to be superior to the integral Lexus system when it is correctly working. Trust this helps,
