  1. Nick, thanks very much for this. I still have the car and still have the issues. I was thinking about a GROM but didn't know which to buy as I heard some have issues with distortion. I will certainly give this a go and will post back with my results. Thanks again for you very informative post.
  2. Well as it happens, I still have this car (and still has the error too). I keep meaning to take it into a independent repairers myself, or even fit a USB/MP3 adaptor to the rear (doing away with the CD player altogether), both of which I have never got round to doing. I just listen to the radio, or my cassette MPS adaptor.
  3. Got a 2005 RX400h and the standard 6cd changer. It give me an error a few weeks ago, saying Error 4. I unplugged the battery and reconnected it several hours and it worked for a few weeks before giving the same error. I disconnected the battery again and now its saying error 3. Not sure if these numbers refer to the CD that was being used at the time, but I cant do ANYTHING with it now. If I go onto the CD it gives this error, if I try to eject the CD it just goes to the radio, if I try and change the CD it just goes to the radio, if I disconnect the battery it just keeps the message on when I reconnect it. Anyone had this problem before and find a solution?
  4. Just changed mine toaday. 14mm to split the caliper and 17mm to remove the caliper.
  5. Not sure about remotely starting your RX, but to be honest i think its a little laziness or used to just 'show off'. Why not get a good steering lock and go out and start your engine the old fashioned way, knowing that your car cant be taken? Ok, then keys may get taken, but not if your sat watching it heat up. As already stated, on a public road it is ILLEGAL leaving your car unattended whilst the engine is running, and is known as 'quitting'. Police cars and ambulances in the UK have whats called 'run lock'. These are activated by pressing a button on an already running engine, allowing you to remove the keys leaving it to run still. The engine automaticaly dies if someone presses the clutch in or tries to select a gear. These are designed so the police car/ambulance can be left running (with blue lights on) without running the battery down, and the keys removed for safety. It may be better/cheaper getting something like this.
  6. Think i may have found the source of my rattle. Under the glove compartment (near to where a passengers ankles would be) there is a plastic cover with 3 sprung plastic clips, this appears loose. This cover has the footwell light built into it. It comes off really easy as it just has these clips that you do with your finger nails and it hooks on at the back. If i hold it (quite dangerous if driving along though) it stops the noise, but need to investigate more to see if its the cover itself of something resting on it.
  7. I have a 2005 RX400h and have a crackling/creaking (actually more of a rattle) on the passenger side too. It appears to be coming from the glovebox (or behind/beside it), but is difficult to locate as i drive along. I have emptied it out (obviously) and tried 'hitting' the dash with my palm (when parked) to hear where the noise is coming from. I dare say it could be the glove box fixtures, and was wondering if these are easy enough to sort out myself? I did have a quick look, and noticed a couple of 'half turn' connectors either side.that look like they will turn then pull out (into the glove box), but didnt want to start taking things apart as it was getting dark.
  8. My iPhone works perfectly (almost) with my '05 RX400h. I say almost, as it wont sync the phonebook as the iPhone uses a format than what the RX cant read. This can easily be sorted by syncing the phonebook off another phone, so it is in the cars own phonebook, then when your iPhone pairs it will still show who is calling. I also have another issue, but not sure if its just the iPhone or all phones, or even the cars problem itself... When i call out i get no ringing tone via BT, but when the call connects the sound comes through then. This means that the person you call may answer and say 'hello' a couple of times before you can hear them. Never really been an issue, but they may hang up if they dont hear you the first time they say 'hello' and you dont answer back. I have the original SatNav on mine and think its great. Would like the updated disc sometime soon though, but its the price of a dedicated Satnav device.
  9. I have never had any issues at all with my iPhone 4, using SW 4.2.1, its works flawlessly and is great quality. Well, apart from there being no ringing tone when you call someone, and it only connecting when they have answered and said hello a few times. But not sure if this is case with all rx400 cars and all Blue Toothed phones.
  10. Funny you should bring this up, i took my key into a key cutting place yesterday (called Timsons, in Bishop Auckland, Durham). They had a reader and popped my key into it and said it could be copied and a new one supplied for £60. I dont have the master one either.
  11. Yeah B stands for braking and is designed for controlling a downhill decent. I have used it and it did slow me down. I think the steeper the hill, the better it works. I didnt try it on a very steep hill, and i was already going slow, so not sure if it applies the brakes or just uses engine/gear braking. I know on a Land Rover Discovery it will apply the brakes as well. All you do is put it into downhill assist and dont touch anything but the steering wheel.
  12. Dont have a clue what this could be, but make sure that you have deleted your HTC profile from the cars bluetooth system, as i have heard that it 'can' cause problems if you have more than 1 phone's profiles in the car as it confuses it as it is trying to look for the phone that you no longer have. Welcome to the forums.
  13. Years ago i used to be the manager of a tool/machinery shop that had a secure car park. At the end of the day we closed and locked the car park to stop ram raiders (when ram raiding was the thing) ramming the rear shutters. Every so often a car would be left in there when the owner used our car park to leave their car for free whilst they did their shopping elsewhere. We used to use a trolley jack to pull their car out and dump it in the road, so we could secure the gates. On occasions we would have to lock their car in, which would mean that they couldnt get it out until the next morning. Oh what fun we had the next day when they came in playing holy hell, saying that they had to walk home, lol.
  14. Well, if its taxed its not the polices issue, or the councils issue either, and they are powerless to do about it. However, if its blocking or being an obstruction they can issue a £30 fine for obstruction. Dont confuse obstruction with inconvenience. This is obviously stopping you from turning right out of your drive, or even having a clear view when turning left. If its a hazard then they have powers to remove it, or ask the owner to remove it. They can possibly find who it belongs to by doing an insurance check on it, but this isnt 100% foolproof as not all insurers are on the database. If the police remove it, and it is taxed, tested, insured, then THEY can be dealt with for TWOC. Its not actually the police who remove it, they authorise a recovery agency to remove it. This costs the force about £150, so will only do it if necessary. As for looking inside it, the police have NO right to look in it, just as much as they have no right to look into your vehicle. What i think i would do is put a trolly jack under it and drag it into the middle of the road and phone the police again. Then it becomes an obstruction and the police will have to get it towed away :winky: It sounds as though the police now know who owns it. If they arent allowed in the street then there must be some injuction or court order stopping them. Ask if the police can remove the vehicle on behalf of the owner, by getting the keys off them.
  15. Might order these... http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?details=Ordern&cart_id=52300823.110.8765&typ=R-188907&ranzahl=4&Breite=235&Quer=55&Felge=18&Speed=H&weiter=0&kategorie=6&Ang_pro_Seite=20&Transport=P&dsco=110&sowigan=Wi
  16. You wouldnt say that if you ran out and got a £30 fine, lol.
  17. There are 3 main defferences (i believe)... The base model does not have StaNav or reverse camera, The next one (mine, the SE) does have SatNav and reverse camera, The top one (SE-L) has Satnav and reverse camera, but also a Mark Levison stereo which is an uprated one to the SE. The SE stereo is still a 6cd multi, and sounds great, so dont be put off that one, its just the L is better. The earlier models (mine, 2005/6) did not have the stereo linked as such to the touch screen. What that means is that sounds cant be changed via the touch screen, like speaker positions, bass, radio etc, these have to be adjusted from the stereo itself, and you cant use the CD for DVD's. I believe you can with the newer SE (with a bit of tinkering) The SE-L has rear seat DVD players too. I am sure to be corrected if i am wrong.
  18. Very similar to Linehill, I bought my 400h a few months ago, its a '55 (2006) model with 19,000 (now 25,000) on the clock and cost £18,000. This is by far the nicest car i have owned, and is a pleasure to drive. I have a 40 miles per day commute, on about 5% town and 95% country and national speed limit areas, and get about 330 miles per tank (about £60 to fill the tank). It uses a lot more fuel in the winter, and about 28mpg (33mpg in summer). My local Lexus main dealer have quoted about £200 for a minor service (which i thought reasonable). The tyres are 235/55/18 and start from about £95 each, but should last a few years. I had very thick snow where i live, and to be honest i did get stuck on my road, but that was because it was on an incline and about 18" deep. When i cleared a little away it got out fine, when everyone else got stuck in their 2wd cars. My tyres are towards the end of their life too (about 2.5mm), so cant blame the car. I used to get stuck EVERY year with all the other cars i had, so this is great. I would recommend it.
  19. How did you do this? I have a '55 plate 400h and cant manually key numbers into the phonebook. I have an iPhone, and that wont sync the phone book, but WILL work with BT. To the op, i have come from a Saab 9-3 diesel, and owned several BMW cars too. I agree with everything Lydiamight said, but would rather have my lexus than the others. Possibly due to it being a little more unique too.
  20. My '55 400h does exactly the same thing. Glad its nothing to worry about.
  21. Same here. I believe that the phone book on the iPhone isnt standard, so wont sync with the RX400h (but will with a RX450h). The only way i have thought could be a work around is put your address book in from another phone.
  22. Funny you should say that. The force i work for (traffic cop) has just changed their fleet to BMW 3 and 5 series estates, and they have been grounded due to being too dangerous to drive in this weather. We have about £150,000 worth of cars sat doing nothing whilst we go out in a 7 year old Skoda (FWD) and a couple of old discoveries.
