  1. Correct, it has to be declared as SORN, which is fine if you dont need your car for a couple of weeks. buy new tax, then send old one back Can u do that yes like i said i have done it before by keeping the old disc and sending it in for a refund while the garage re-taxed it for the new owner
  2. for those still unsure or cant find thier reg document go here: http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ click 'vehicle enquiry' then 'next' and put in your(or anydbody elses) reg and make to get the reg date and co2 any car pre 2001 will NOT show a co2 so your safe yes Darling HAS killed the second hand market as far as post 2001 cars are concerned, i have been trying to change for a few weeks and i can tell you something is up in the second hand car market with huge drops of high emmision cars(mine has gone down 2k in 2 months) and the industry is VERY concerned meaning huge losses for us on our cars and jobs for the car industry in general created by this tax worry and fuel rises so to sumerise Darling has: lost us loads of cash value on our cars making changing to newer more efficient model impossible actively promoted keeping old(pre 2001) high polluting cars on the road by making them cheaper to by tax for caused the motor industry to loose millions on cars on thier forecorts and put jobs on the line pis...d everyone off big time and lost the next election! and to prove its nothing more than a stealth tax, if you modify your car to produce water from its exhaust and get scientific proof it dosnt matter, whatever your reg document says the co2 is thats what you wil be taxed on....robbing ba..ards have i missed anything??
  3. in the past i have kept the tax disc when i have px the car and it hasnt stopped the dealer gatting a new one
  4. at least i see no reson why this wont work just taxed my car today and realised next year its gonna cost a lot more so: come next march just before the new tax comes in why not apply for a refund on your old disc then re-apply straight away for a new one before the increase comes in??? should save money plus p'ss off the DVLA if everyone does it :D
  5. i dont believe in the % taking the more crude goes up the more they make which is taking the p.ss! they should just pick an amount per gallon then increase it every year inline with inflation that is' 20 years ago they made about £1 on every gallon now they get £375 has inflation gone up 275% in 20 years? or am i talking boll..ks?
  6. yes is latest spec but pre registered wonderd what your opinion is on the fact its not an SE? will it effect resale much? buy the way the px is an eos manual that the wife has taken against
  7. been offered a non SE auto model but with the 17in alloys for £21500 new good deal? only difference i have been told is the leather/electric/heated seats is this true and would you pay the extra for them? need to say yes or no tommorrow cheers
  8. seen a few posts on mpg but not specifically for the petrol auto i will be doing a mix of mostly town driving what can i hope to get? my current vw gti averages 30 mpg on its computer cheers
  9. ARGH! Because my car was registered bang on 1st March 01, i fall into the "on or after 1st March 2001" category, how f**king frustrating! :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: :tsktsk: no your ok and one of the last ones your car must be on a 'x' plate cars up to march 31st are ok to be sure go here http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ click 'vehicle enquiry' then 'next' then input you r reg and make to get the answer on what you will pay
  10. at least thats what they have done in their latest road tax hike this 'stealth' tax done under the guise of the 'green' card makes owning and maintaining a pre april 2001 car much more attractive than upgrading to a newer model as all cars before this date have a fixed £180 tax. compare that with a new, say , range rover, which from 2010 which will cost you £950 to tax new then £455 a year after that i know most people who can afford this car wont bat an eyelid at this but this is just an example and alot more people will be effected that are not expecting it an IS200 post 2001 is going to be £430!!! im looking for an older one which will now probably go up in value :winky:
  11. been offered £7000 by a dealer so have advised him to sell
  12. just a follow up bought an EOS about a month ago now and loving it drive is great as is finish it just ticked all the boxes for me at the moment can live without the extra doors as kids getting older, its normally just me and the misses in it also room is amazing for this type of car, with roof up can seat 4 easy and plenty of luggage space went for black with red leather and big wheels so turns plenty of heads, reminds me of when i first had the original IS when there wernt so many on the road only one gripe is the lack of auto on mine, the waiting list was just too long for that so left foot now getting some use cheers alan
  13. thanks for the advice he bought the leon cash for £16500 so will now sell Is for £7000 on here
  14. thanks may go gold and advertise for him on here can get £1500 off seat for cash!
  15. friend of mine who bought my beloved lexus now has to sell and get a cheap new deisel for work he is not that savy when it comes to dealers and just wrang me chuffed he had a deal on a new seat dealer ofered him £6500 then full wack for the new one i told him it sounded crap what you think? 2001/51 se auto (2002 model) 41000 miles was mint when i sold it to him and i know he has looked after it
  16. as a past owner (good days) i value your opinions on the above car i changed to a c class and regretted it for 2 years must be honest think the new model IS is not a patch on the old, doesnt turn heads like the old one, just blends in to the backround i do like the VW as it id different and stands out, and drives great too any opinions guys
  17. do you think the proposed £400 will force Lexus to reduce its overpriced Is250? lets be honest by todays standards the co2 emissions of the Is is too high! plus the 0-60 times and fuel consumption arent good either and the only alternative is the desiel, yuk i would rather stick pins on my eyes, and they cant even give us that with an auto box so i for one hope the price tumbles then i can afford one again :D
  18. the is250 IS the replacement for the 200 , otherwise they would still produce the 200 the price hike is unforgiveable yes its better and 'a different animal' but so should all replacements otherwise why bother? whats the view from honest salesmen? the one i spoke to said sales of 250 were slow and loads of loyal customers walk away when the price comes up and by the way only us on here like it the press still awards the 3 series the crown lexus should have stayed where it was , a niche car and german alternative and priced the same as a 318 but with a 6 cylinder and better spec isnt that why we all bought one in the first place??
  19. i've made it clear before i think the new IS is overpriced compared to the old model is the proof now that only a short time after launch dealers are offering delivery milage only models? maybe they know Lexus plan to reduce the price due to poor sales as they did with the old model and are dumping there stock !
  20. yes you are probabaly right and there is sour grapes cos i cant afford it but the annoying thing is that i used to be able to afford it! yes the car is better but all new models are and so they should but the price hike is unjustified i know i am not alone, two guys a know personally have gone elseware after seeing the price hike i'm not judging the car alongside its german rivals just the price differance between new and old lexus did it before when the original was launched but reduced the price when it didnt sell having found thier niche in the market i believe they should have stayed with it also having read some of the posts on imports i checked the usa site, i know all models are cheaper over their and lex is no different working out at under £20000 ps good news for all you mk1 owners as your residuals will stay high and i bet nearly new models are good sellers at £18000 ish
  21. something has to be done so im making a start! as a former IS200 owner who was looking forward to purchasing a new model this year but now having to look elseware i'm OUTRAGED!! a quick look on the lexus webpage confrimed my worst nightmare specing up to EXPECTED lexus standards (leather sunroof metalic paint satnav, all standard on the outgoing model) its now possible to pay £33,000 for a new IS thats rediculous!!! it looks gorgeous and now has the engine it deserves but an insrease of over £10,000 is stupid! i'm sure it will sell initially to die hard fans with the money but its going to loose its original targetted buyers who were looking for a german alternative at a reasonable price it used to compete against the 318's and c180,s but now outprices alot more capeable cars
  22. i looked at changing from a lex to audi for reasons you stated we took a test drive in a new a3 sport and couldnt believe how bad the ride was been told the se model is better though just avoid the sport packs! oh! better add didnt buy it and never did try the se a few minutes with the sales guy discussing specs on audi and what it would cost to match the lex saw me running for the hills
  23. so am i right in thinking a new model se will be the best part of £4000 more than outgoing model thats one hell of a price increase!
