  1. Morning All Bit of a long shot but does anyone have original door mirror glass available for a 1998 LS400, both sides, please? When originals on mine delminated the previous owner stuck aftermarket glass on top, those now look shonky so would ideally like to reinstate decent original glass each side if at all possible. Appreciate it is unlikley but thought worth asking. If there are any stashed away out there, new or used, then please let me know price/s. Secondly the front passenger door won't lock/unlock with the central locking so am presuming I will need to replace the door actuator? But wondered if there was any other common quirky thing that I don't know about which might cause this and I can check first? Any useful replies gratefully received. Many thanks. Phil
  2. Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Bit surprised the 18” GS 5 Spokes may not fit as exactly the same size and offset as the LS430 5 spoke? These ones -
  3. Afternoon all in Lexus Land.... I have just bought a 1998 LS400, just 70k miles and last owners for 14 years. It needs minor tlc but potential to be pretty immaculate after a bit of effort. Whilst at it I was thinking I might lower the suspension, only an inch or so (similar to OEM LHP option) and add some 18” oem wheels. Either LS430 5 spoke or later GS 5 spoke. From what I can tell both should fit in terms of stud pattern and centre bore but the latter are 8JJ wide, rather than 7JJ standard or 7.5JJ for LS430 option, although all have 45 offset from what I can tell. It seems the optional LHP 17” OEM wheels were 8J wide with 40 offset so although I doubt 5mm will make much difference I would appreciate benefit of others experience, plus suggestions on suspension lowering too please. Presumably the 40 offset makes those wheels give car a slightly wider stance, or maybe it’s the other way round? Whilst here could someone also please tell me the difference between J and JJ for wheels, I have a feeling it might be to do with shape/steepness of taper for wheel nut seats but not sure if I made that up in my mind..... Many thanks in advance. Phil
  4. A quick update to confirm the car is now sold to a very chuffed new owner from Bournemouth.
  5. Hi All Sorry if this is a bit cheeky but just wanted to let everyone know that I have put my 1996 GS300 Sport up for sale on ebay. Want top dollar but I hope you will agree that you get what you pay for!! Ebay item number - 130545149221 if anyone wants to take a look. Cheers Phil
  6. If yours is an earlier Mark 1 Sport than you might be able to go down the classic car insurance route. I think I am right in saying that most insurers who offer this type of cover often provide "modern classic car" cover for cars of 15 years old and older. Not sure if it is any cheaper but should be able to go for limited mileage to keep costs down if you don't do too many. Adrian Flux mentioned above have a large classsic car department I think so might be worth trying them. Hope that helps. Phil
  7. Hi Trying to get hold of a 18 x 10 Dished Rear Alloy for Mark 1 GS300 Sport. Only need one but would condsider a pair or a whole set of four with the 8.5" fronts. New/Already Refurbished or in need of Refurbishment, everything considered depending on price/distance etc. I have managed to buy a new ex display one with brand new Pirelli P Zero Tyre for £130 and two front refurbished ones for £75 each without tyres so done quite well to date but still one short!! I have even considered a whole cheap car, swap the wheels round and sell on etc. If anyone has anything available for sale or can suggest where else to try then please let me know as I would be very grateful of any suggestions. Many thanks Phil
  8. If you get in touch with a member on here called "sorted vti", he makes stickers. He did a set for me in white. He can do most colours. Here is a pic with it fitted. Thanks very much again for this and your other suggestions Rick, much appreciated.
  9. Hi All Can anyone suggest where to get hold of a "Sport" Front Bumper Transfer/Sticker (just below near side fog light). Lexus advise that they are discontinued so as a long shot wondered if someone may have one lying around that I could purchase. I was told they were available in silver and dark/smoke silver, I think mine must be the latter. Or maybe someone is aware of a specialist that might have supplied them before and have the template on file to produce one for me. Any help gratefully received. Many thanks. Phil
  10. Good Afternoon all. I have just acquired a 1996 GS 300 Sport with just 38k miles backed up by full history and only 1 owner plus garage demo beforehand for 7 months. It is in Oxford Blue and so being a dark colour and having an elderly owner has some battle scars which I plan to have sorted. i.e. respray bumpers front and rear, have the whole car mopped (plenty of little car wash scratches to try and deal with) plus respray rear spoiler and door mirrors. That will be about £450 but in view of the mileage etc. worth getting in tip top shape. The next thing will be the wheels, I have discovered the spare is nearly square and so not sure if it can be repaired/refurbed. I have trawled the forums and they seem to be renowned for being delicate. Does anyone know if new ones are still available or I would appreciate suggestions regarding refurbishment to standard two tone colour spec. There is no real kerb damage on the outside of the wheels just corrosion due to age I guess. The inside is immaculate, I spoke to the last owner before buying the car and was told that pretty much no one had ever sat in the back! Everything works as far as I can see except what appears to be a nightmare common fault with the needle for the Rev Counter not lighting up. Any suggestions of if these can be repaired and by whom would be helpful. The next thing I wanted to check was in relation to clear side indicator repeaters, again having spent time looking at previous posts it seems the part number I need is 81730-20220 (which I think are for the RX but fit exactly). Can these still be obtained from Lexus (I will phone them on Tuesday anyway to check) or can I get them anywhere else for a lower price? Final minor thing is the small cover things on the sides of the rear bumper where I presume reflectors or running/marker lights are fitted for other countries. Anyone fitted these or have suggestions where to find some, I have hunted on the net but no success so far. Other than that are there any specialists suppliers of genuine parts at lower prices that Lexus (like Euro Car Parts who I have used for my BMW), I have found Japanese Car Parts so far. Also suggestions of any good Breakers I could try if required. I have just thought of a couple of very trivial things which are should the outside temp button on the stereo be lit when the lights are on (every single other button and knob is but not that one). Lastly on the subject of lights, is there a bulb in the lock switch on the passenger door or is it part of the switch because that is the only other thing which is not working (sorry I suppose I should take it out and look myself but I am sure someone will know). Many thanks to all those that read this and any suggestions, ideas, hints and tips would be very much appreciated to help me get the old girl back into the condition she should be with such low mileage. Cheers, Phil Mills
