Do not know if anyone has any ideas on this.
For the last couple of years I have used a firm of accountants to help compile my tax return due to some complications I had with the inland revenue.
Whilst compiling my 02/03 tax return last year the accountants voluntered the information that they believed I was due a tax rebate to the tune of £8000, this was money I was not aware I was due.
The accountants then compiled and submitted my tax return.
I received a cheque after a while from the Inland Revenue for the £8000
End of December I received a letter from the revenue that they had reinvestigated my case and had decided that I was not actualy due the £8000 and could they please have a cheque for this amount back please.
I had a chat with the accountant who has come back to me and said that there was a mistake and yes I am liable for this money and need to pay it back.
My question here is does anyone here know if it worth me going to a solisitor to see if I have any claim against the accountants for proffesional negligence or the like ?
I do not want to waste a further £100 odd quid talking to a solisitor if all they are going to say is I do not have a chance. I know I am liable to the Inland Revenue, there is no getting out of that, but I do not know if it is worth me trying to get the money from the accountants as they gave me bad information.
Any ideas or acctual knowledge on this subject will be very gratefuly received.
