  1. Friends of mine are LPG installers and are sick of this con. They enquired about joining the scheme to put conversion customers minds at rest but quickly discovered it's all about handing wads of money over to this self styled group of so called experts and lining their pockets. The very same group has been running around like headless chickens telling any insurance company that will listen how dangerous LPG conversions are if not carried out by their members or people who don't follow the practises that they have decided are the only correct ones. Strange though, the country is not in an epidemic of deaths and injuries from badly fitted LPG systems on vehicles. When did you last hear of a car blowing up ? There are more car fires from faulty petrol systems and car electrics than LPG kits. Still . when there's an earner in something, the facts go right out the window.
  2. 440 mile round trip yesterday averaging 22mpg ( thats gallon of lpg ) in my RX330. Now don't forget, that as I paid 69.9 for my gas, then I got nearly two gallons of lpg for the price of one gall of unleaded making it approx 40 mpg ! and that was at a steady 70mph on the M6,M1, M11
  3. 'Catalyst System efficiency below threshold (bank 1)'.'Yep, get that on my lpg converted RX300. Did Emission test on petrol only and it couldn't have been any cleaner or lower in terms of passing MOT. Same test on LPG and once again, lowest level of emissions you could get on a car with 90,000 on it. Seems that Lexus warning lights will come on if it goes cloudy or you slam the door to hard. Just away of getting owners in to Lexus service bays and milking them dry if you ask me.
  4. My 2003 RX300 was converted at 64,000 thousand and is now on 91,000. Tank takes £35 to fill at current price and does 260 miles on that tank when on motorway run, around 230 around town. Yes, the EML comes on but recent exhaust gas tests show that it is ultra clean on both petrol and log. That light is so sensitive I wouldn't be surprised if it came on if a headlight failed !!
  5. Sorted it. Disconnected the battery for a few minutes then reconnected and radio now working normally. Just another niggle on what is supposed to be a ' luxury car". My first Lexus and my last, they really are just as crappy as other Jap makes and seem to suffer from one obscure problem after another. As for parts, they must all be hand carved from gold by fairies judging my the price of anything from a suspension bush to a door lock.
  6. Help ! I can't seem to turn off the ASL setting on the radio in my 2003 RX300. I don't even remember turning it on. Held the Audio control knob on the left but it won't let me change any settings... bass, treb, balance ASL ?
  7. Couldn't find my rad on ebay. It is the one which has the ATF fluid passing through it as well. Sourced one at Europarts in the end. £150 plus vat.
  8. Any one know where I can find an after market radiator for a 2003 RX 300 ?. It's the one with part of the a/c built in. Just starting to ring around the various radiator repairers in the North West but drawing a blank. Not some thing they seem to want to refurbish. Main stealer is looking at nearly £500... too much to spend on a 9 year old bus.
  9. 78 views and no replies !!! where are all the ' experts ' ?
  10. The largest of the bushes in my front lower wishbones show much sign of wear. Can the bushes be replaced separately or must I change the whole arm ? V6 3.0 2003 model with no air suspension. Any one know of any British firms doing the arms as a whole or the bushes ?
  11. Nothing pee's me off more than the ... ' lpg is crap ' merchants. I once had my house roof re pointed badly but I don't preach that you should never have it done ! My tank fits nicely where the spare wheel used to live on my 2003 RX300.

  12. I only got one black key with mine ( second hand purchase ). Is it possible to get a grey key on line or is it dealer only ?
  13. So now the bar is raised to a ridiculous height. 100g/km is just too low for the majority of road users.. Might as well go the whole hog and include cyclists in the charge, after all, they sweat and that could be classed as a pollutant.
  14. Hi, i am also looking to convert my 2004 RX300, could you let me know how you get on and also what and where was you quoted £950 for the conversion the sites i have been looking at have quoted around £1800. Thanks Ian I have a post with pictures in the servicing tips section showing how I converted my 2004 RX 300
  15. The Dunlop 235/55/18 on mine are utter crap. Not only that, the previous owner had stuck to the recommended tyre pressures which would appear to be too low as both edges on the two front tyres have worn excessively. Some one said they all wear like that on the 300 RX range and there's nothing you can really do about it. I have added two pounds of pressure all round.
  16. RX 300 Se All the doors lock except the rear offside which is some times locks and some times doesn't. Same with opening. The lock button seems to be a bit sticky and doesn't move fully when key fob is pressed. Have given it a squirt of the WD40. Any ideas ?. Is it easy to strip the door card ?
  17. What do you base that scaremongering on ? The use of a additive kit ( Flashlube or better still VAP valve saver ) will ensure many miles of trouble free motoring. I can show you a Lexus RX 350 with nearly 70000 miles of gas use and no valve problems.
  18. Am I right in thinking that the brake booster is the big black item on the bulkhead behind the brake fluid cylindar ? It ain't going to be easy to replace that in two hours, with or with out an LPG kit fitted. No mention of loan vehicles I note.
  19. Contacted Lexus UK today about the brake recall for my Lexus 300 RX. As you might have seen on this forum, I am half way through an LPG conversion on the vehicle. When I heard the news about the brake recall, I relayed it to the firm that is carrying out the conversion. They advised that it be best not to undertake any under bonnet work as this might make it difficult for Lexus to correct any problems re the recall... lpg parts in the way etc. So I spent an hour on the phone to the customer services dept of Lexus UK in an effort to try and find out when recalling was likely to start. Seems it's not going to be in the next week or so but possibly early next year. I then explained my reasons for asking and pointing out that I could ill afford to run the car on UK petrol prices, hence my investment of £1,200 on an LPG kit which I will soon recoup with the above average mileage I am to undertake over the next 3 years. I told them that if the kit was completed now, the firm fitting it would charge me to remove and replace it when the vehicle was called in by Lexus. They all so pointed out that if Lexus damaged any of the under body componets when carrying out their work, this would not be covered by the kits warranty. Talk about a rock and a hard place ! Lexus where totaly unsympathetic , going as far as to point out they couldn't be held responsible when non approved after market items had been fitted and that they would not meet the costs of removal and replacement.. What a bloody cheek from a company that supplied a vehicle with a potential life threatening fault. If it wasn't for their ineptitude in the first place, I would not be having this discussion I know from the number of Lexus owners I have meet who have been converted to LPG , that the dealerships are going to be confronted by more than the odd one when dealing with this recall.
  20. RX 300 , 54 reg.The cup holder under the air vent on the drivers side has been pushed in to far at some stage in its life and now has to be prised out to use. How can I remove it to see if I can get it working again ?
  21. Well thats the back of my 6 year old rust bucket of a Merc ML 270 CDi ! The engine and auto box where fine at 82,000 if you leave out the slightly dodgy turbo and the leaking inter cooler, but the body had more acne than a 14 year old , chip eating geek. So I now have my RX 300 Se, non sat nav, with 58,000 on the clock, full service history and although it is a 53 reg, it's a Jan 2004 model. Next week, my good friend, a top class LPG converting mechanic who's business is slap bang on the doorstep of my other halfs premises and me, a have a go type, will be converting it to LPG. I will start a topic and talk you all throught it with pictures if possible.
