  1. Supagard is rubbish.

Its a sealant and not a very good one. Most of the time slapped on by valeters without proper preparation. I dont think anyone has got it to last 6 months nevermind 1 year or whatever they claim

In the first instance I would use a hairdryer on the bird marks - they certainly dont need polishing straight away. Sustained heat for 5 minutes should cause it to disappear.

Secondly, I would try to get a refund of the supagard and get a detailer to apply a proper ceramic coating

coming from a 6 year old Mercedes C class Premium - I can see these little penny pinching moves in my "Takumi" all over the place, e.g.

    • no passenger side memory seats
    • no aluminium pedals
    • only 2 door handles are illuminated
    • no tyre inflation kit inlcuded
    • my mercedes had thigh support for the seats
    • dashboard material is pretty underwhelming, previously I had a (fake) leather everwhere, e.g. door.

but rather than penny pinching I think it is a lack of practicality which is missing, e.g.:

    • the first aid kit is too big to properly fit in the boot
    • door bins are very small
    • piano black plastic
    • gear knob is a pain to use, couldn't they just use buttons for that?
    • my mercedes had a little crate for boot which you could store away and take out

    etc.

all small things, but just does not give the premium feeling.

what I really like is the efficency of the hybrid system and how it works seamlessly. also - all the security systems (lta, adaptive cruise control) are top notch.

Although its not really a fair comparison.

Ive got the Merc W205 and the build quality is rubbish in comparison. Squeaks, rattles all over which I had to rectify, and its the same with all the newer models. Not just an isolated case either, the forums are rife with it. Ride quality is okay but only after removing the run flats - still relatively harsh and nowhere near as quiet as the Lexus on a move.

I dont think many Lexus come with passenger memory seats.....

Merc reliability is rubbish too - Ive had about £3k worth of work done on a car with 40k miles.

And lets not forget about the "Artico" pleather which screams vinyl. The Lexus offering is much better. I do genuinely think the Merc is very good at looking very good and giving the impression of quality, but its certainly not a quality product. I believe the W206 is even worse - material quality is worse lower down than the W205

Hi, 2018 nx tailgate makes an horrendous noise when closing. Just been for service

asked then to check it out. Told needs new struts @ £2211.40 which I think is a bit excessive.

My question is should it not be done under warranty

    As above should be covered.

All 4 light up on my 2020 300h, premium plus pack.

Penny pinching, lack of components, all too often recalls, sending out £50K+ cars with 1 key, no locking bolts etc. etc.
Lexus are in danger of losing their luxury brand aura if this sort of thing continues.

    Don't be silly

All the premium manufacturers are doing it. Can't get folding mirrors on some, or sound systems on top spec Mercs at the moment. Sane price, just no sound systems or certain extras which should be in the package, they don't come with it

    Hi

I took delivery of my NX450+ with the Premium Pack options. The driver and front passenger door handles are illuminated but the rear door handles are not.  is this intentional or were they missed? If it is intentional then it is somewhat mean given the cost of the car

I think they're only on the fronts. Last time I checked they only lit up at the front too. Not really sure why

Yes I agree, Lexus have gone down in my estimation. I'm not happy with Snows at Hedge End for not suggesting it may be worth contacting Lexus about it.

Unfortunately I had a whole lot of things going on at the time so didn't keep my eye on the ball.

I would snap back at that email with a reply and CC it to the CEO along with your views on Lexus customer service.

    Has always worked for me.

  7. So thought I would provide an update - everything has been very smooth so far. I called LV - they sent an email to the bodyshop for an estimate. I sent my bodyshop pictures of the vehicle and they priced it up and sent to LV. LV accepted the quote and arranged a hire care which I picked up on Monday evening.

Bodyshop trailered the RX away on Tuesday and i've had confirmation that its coming back on Wednesday next week.

In the meantime, I have been given a Volvo XC90 B5 mild hybrid.

I don't like it at all apart from the practicality side of things. Its quiet, little road noise but that diesel engine sounds awful, like a goat! The suspension is odd, there's way too much lateral movement over rough roads and you can feel all that weight shifting when turning the car.

Something else I noticed after driving an XC90 for the first time. The interior quality is unusual. Its built well but the materials below the amrest are horrid. The plastics are so thin and tinny in the door cards that the VW Golf we've bought has better quality door cards (which are also felt lined).

Odd vehicle. RX handles better than this and is more refined overall in my opinion. XC90 seems to be smoother on the motorway and larger roads but I dont know if thats because mine is an F-Sport.

That is a cracking idea - many thanks. It was really weird trying to get them out. I'd give it half a turn and then take the screwdriver out and boing back it went to its original position! I'm coming round to the number plate surround idea.

Thats usually because its been overtightened and the threads have got stuck, so the head keeps moving when trying to screw off and pings back into the original position until it eventually snaps right off.

The holes in the plates are drilled too low:

    image.png.ccf5dd2330a9dfff9832f1aa783865d0.png

When she goes in for a service next, I'm going to ask them to do a new plate as it does look a bit pants. I was surprised that they went to the trouble of drilling the plates because previously they've given me new plates with sticky pads on the back. I thought that pre-drilled would save me time masking around the old plate so I could line everything up properly but...

Have you used those plastic number plate screws? What a pain in the derriere they are. One will come out nicely, the other will refused to budge no matter how carefully you try to remove it. I'd do a half turn and it would turn back to where it started. The head broke off one so I had to take it out with pliers which was equally difficult. I eventually found two bolts in my bolt stash which were the right thread and used those. Later that afternoon I thought that perhaps plastic screws are used so that they don't come loose with vibration. Off to Halfords I went. They only had blue number plate screws. Blue?! Who uses blue screws? Onto Amazon to buy a bulk pack of black, white and yellow screws. If anyone needs any, you know where to come....

My car has the plastic screws - never had an issue with them to be honest but I do spray them with silicone before I screw them on. The other issue is when the dealer overtightens them so they dont come out.

Other cars have got WURTH number plate surrounds which are much better in my view.

I love my postman. Not only did he bring Betsy's V5 this morning, he also brought Tiff's too. The package is complete:

(and  yes, pruning that Clematis is on my To Do list...)

Looks very nice - I think the Takumi / less sportier specs suit the type of car much more.

However....... am i seeing a wonky number plate or is it just the angle 😅

It’s a 2019+ car with a 17 plate on it? What other options are? This is how they sell these cars, they change the vin and plates.

PS : When buying a Lexus check the last few digits of the VIN from the windows. Lexus engraves them on EVERY window but not too many people pay attention to that, they only check the vin under the seat/ windscreen which can easily be changed and looks like the original one.

It seems a bit suspicious. I would definitely report this. The reg and MOT is showing registered in 2017 which it obviously isnt as it has the new bumpers and the interior as well

One would hope that Relax would cover major failures which could well be eye waveringly expensive. Whereas the normal Lexus warranty which If I remember correctly was about £500 per annum maybe would have covered a shock absorber,  but as I've not paid that premium for maybe 3-4 years puts things into perspective.

I honestly expected a Lexus item like the shock absorber to last longer than 13000 miles (actually 12500 when it failed) and as I've always sung the praises of Lexus quality on the many motoring forums I frequent perhaps after this experience I'll not be so enthusiastic about Lexus quality.

I have to admit having now been using the Yaris GR for a while I'm beginning to think if the RCF is superfluous to needs, hope not.

Its just one of those things though isn't it. Likely an exception to the rule.

I dont think theres been that many RCF shock failures at all even when looking at the US which sell a lot more of these cars.

From the RC-F crew you're probably the first in the UK to have had this From an overall perspective Lexus as a brand are massively reliable compared to other premium marques

I have tried so we shall see. I'll report back.

    Be persistent.

Ive tried it a few times it works very well. My RX was 3 days of out Relax warranty mainly based on the date I could schedule the service for and it had a dodgy wheel bearing. Would have been covered if 3 days earlier. Email to Lexus UK and they refunded half.

Your car has low miles, it shouldn't have happened and isnt really wear and tear on the basis of low mileage. 60k miles and above it may be a different story

It was picked up at the last service, the first thing I asked was isn't that a bit premature wear wise.

In the past I have always praised Lexus for bombproof reliability/quality of components, I may have to change my replies on car forums in the future.

Has anyone a contact address where I should send my complaint?

    https://www.lexus.co.uk/help-centre

Scroll down to Still need assistance and fill in the Contact Lexus form.

Generally speaking the cars are bombproof and extremely reliable. Doesnt make them absolutely immune to all problems and it usually is bad batch of parts on a very small number of cars causing the issues.

  15. Shock absorbers and springs arent included in the relax warranty.

Does make sense I suppose from a wear and tear perspective especially with the state of our roads

However, the car does have low mileage. I suggest a strong email to Lexus customer services will get you some sort of compensation as the mileage is quite low, especially if there is a full Lexus service history.

The IS300h had a shock absorber go at 20k miles. Had some kind of leak in the rear shocks. Its well known part issue on some of them.

Another problem is that its clear the car hasnt been driven enough. Normally you'd expect 13k miles to be done in 13 months so well within manufacturers warranty but it gets complicated on low mileage cars

    Thanks for the feedback lads.

From a bit of reading I wondered if applying dry rather than wet might give extra longevity. Cannot find any really hard data for that. It's more parochial views on it from some users.

If you have tried both would you think there was a difference in longevity ?

    Be careful

A lot of these ceramic sprays dont actually have true ceramic in them. Its just a marketing term in the majority of these sprays.

A true ceramic spray will require some sort of cure time, usually about 24 hours and need applying to polished, prepared paint. There is one I know of called Infinity wax synergy lite that has a 30 mins cure time and can be used outdoors. The rest of these sprays are actually just quick detailers with a bit of ceramic in there.

Thanks rayaans.  Other than the locking solenoid have you experienced any other niggles or things that you wished it has/does that it hasn't/doesn't?  Do you run it off solar panels or just the standard mains electric?

I have only had the solenoid issue and it was quite a common problem with the earlier ones. The new part has been revised and no problems since.

I run mine from the mains electric.
