  1. Without the proper equiptment to remove the gas allready in the system the chances are that you will overfill the system and cause damage. The main purpose of an ac service isnt to replenish gas as a properly functioning system shouldnt lose much gas (no more than 40 grams a year). The main purpose is to remove moisture from the system by keeping a vaccum in the system causing any water to boil off and also to check for leaks. If ur ac isnt working then putting gas in it isnt going to fix the underlying proplem and that gas will leak out and into the atmosphere. If ur just wanting to top it up as a maintenence routine i would just leave it alone untill you can afford a ac service. And on second thought i cant imagine halfords sell r134a (the correct refridgerant) as it is against the law to handle it without training so i dont know if its legal to just sell r134a labelled ez chill.
  2. The key probably will be the battery, I replaced mine when I bought it, just remove the philips screw and it splits in two. Then you can remove the fob which if I remember correctly there are two crews holding the battery cover on. The tyres should be 215 45 17, not 245s. I have fitted a lsd from the sport to my se doesn't have anything to do with the tsc as its a proper mechinical lsd not like bmws "elsd" and the final drive ratio is the same just make sure you dont interchange between manual and auto. Ie if u have a manual get a lsd from a manual. I did my service on the ramp but if ur working on the floor i think putting on right hand lock and lying on the floor behind the ns wheel should allow u to get to the oil filter. U can access the filter and drain plug without removing the undertray which is useful if u dont have a ramp.
  3. Thats a bit of an under value if you ask me, on auto trader the only ones you will find for around the 1600 mark have done 150k. With that mileage i would have thought more like 2500 to 3000 but thats if it is in as good condition as a 64k example should be. But i could be wrong.
  4. Also i missed out the bit where you mentioned the eml the overheating could have caused the light but you need to get it plugged in.
  5. I wouldnt think the head gasket would go from freezing It does sound like something froze from what you have described, if your block did freeze it would disslodge the core plugs or crack the block both are very serious but its possible another part of the coolant system froze causing poor flow and then the overheating problem. Driving the car whilst overheating to the point where it conks out could be very damaging and could blow the headgasket/warp the head. If it is a freezing proplem the noise from your dash would have been the heater matrix either filling or leaking due to moving ice. I check the antifreeze to attemp to access its strenght if it just looks like water then it probably did freeze, but even if it looks good i would replace it with new stuff anyway to be safe. Other than that i would try to get the car indoors, a friends garage or a work shop and when you know the whole system is defrosted, then run it and look for coolant leaks core plugs would be a huge leak but anything could have bust, water pump, radiator, heater pipes, thermostat housing etc. It however posible that the problem is completely unrelated to the cold and just a coincidence. In which case it needs more looking at.
  6. Pretty sure it was only the 300 but i think i can safley say that early 200 se didnt come with it as mine doesnt have it
  7. Well im glad you got it sooo much cheaper than halfords, i work at a dealer and there cheeky adverts p*** me off. Heard one the other day saying they fit bulbs and wipers for only an few pounds and are half the price of most dealers. Half the price???? I have to fit bulbs and wipers for free how can you do half of free??? Not only that but would you really want some spotty collage drop out taking ur light clusters out or even worse replacing your battery or radio???
  8. Yeah works brillant, its a little laggy on the guages like the on screen rpm guage is slightly delayed. I read that its because ive just got a cheap adapter and a dearer one would make it work faster, but just for checking faults and reading all the measured values its excellent. Some places would charge more than 17 pound just to check your fault memory. At the moment the software only does the ecu but its being updated all the time and i believe they are planning to add airbag control unit to it aswell.
  9. Would the computer and oil guage work in an is or would it require another oil pressure sensor? Could the mpg computer be made to work with rewiring etc or would it just be plug and play?
  10. I dont know what its like if you have factory fitted parking sensors but without them you SHOULD have an internal warning buzzer, if hers doesnt id check your reverse lights to make sure the switch is ok. If the lights work then its possible a previous owner has disconnected the wire behind the instrument cluster as it is pretty annoying.
  11. I never knew the altezza cluster was so different, is the guage at the top oil pressure, level or temp? Does it have an adverage mpg calc? Good luck gettin it all workin properly
  12. Well with just one pack down it should still fire up and run so if it is coils its probably more than one yes And to your second question, if you have an android phone there is an app called torque (3 quid) all you need to do is buy a obd 2 bluetooth adapter (14 quid delivered off ebay) i cannot recomend it highly enough.
  13. I cant think why it would just start working again by itself, but i had and error 3 message i took the stereo apart and found one of the disk carriers was twisted and out of its runner. I took all the carriers out inspected them swapped them around and its been absolutely fine since. If its still working for you now then i dont see why it wont continue to work. Mine broke because i hit a dip in the road at speed just as it was changing disk so aslong as your not unlucky like that it could be fine I just have the error 1 message alot but only with certain cds (not copys) very annoying
  14. Well if you have an se you have an open diff, so during launches and when powering out of corners if you try to put too much power down the wheel with least traction (inside wheel when cornering) will spin up loosing all the power, where as with an lsd some power will still be sent to the wheel with traction moving you forwards. Doesnt really make the car noticably faster on the roads but makes it really tail happy like a rwd should be. Very fun on roundabouts and juntions :D
  15. Is it a sport? If not i would put an lsd on your list i got one off ebay for £50 made a world of difference
  16. Well i paid £3250 for a mint condition, manual, graphite sky with 66k and fsh (price included 6 months tax) back in september but they seam to have dropped a little in price since then probably to do with christmas. Id advertise at around £2995 but you could try for more just depends how quickly you need to sell and if ur lucky
