  1. They had been done so spraying the potentiometer was the last resort before Lexus had a go, fortunately it is now working teally well.
  2. I was told by the garage that the manifold was quite sooted up, as would be expected on a car thats done 70k and mever been cleaned.
  3. Hi I have an 07 plate is220d which to be fair has had very little problems. A month ago it was sluggish, to the point of dangerous, pulling away in 1st gear. Then the VSC light came on and the AA said blocked DPF. I had the DPF chemically cleaned but still sluggish. I had the EGR cleaned and the inlet manifold, still sluggish, I even swapped the MAF sensor with a friend who has a Toyota, still useless. I then thought back to the old days and decided that if it was years ago I would have suspected a loose throttle cable or linkage, but this car is drive by wire. I decided that it might be a faulty or dirty accelerator potentiometer, I sprayed it with a good dose of electrical contact clener whilst pushing the pedal with my hand. I don't know whether this is a permanent cure, but I can honestly say the car runs better than it has done for years, the fuel consumption has improved only slightly but I can live with that. Give it a try it might work for you. Pluffy
  4. Hi Ar The MAF sensor is located on the pipe just after the air filter box, it is held in with 2 x head screws and has 1 connector. Remove connector and 2 screws and spray with contact cleaner onto the bulb and also up the centre of the tube, NEVER touch the bulb with your hand or cotton buds as it is very delicate. Leave to dry and refit, you then need to remove a battery terminal for about 5 minutes so that the ECU will recalibrate on restart. Reconnect battery and give it a go. Hope this helps. PS you will probably need to reset the electric windows as the sequencing goes out, easy to do just lower and raise each in turn. Good luck. Steve.
  5. Hi I have a is220d and when it is hot it judders when pulling away in 1st gear, the fuel consumption is also poor. Like many on here I thought that it was either the clutch or DMF. However thinking about the fault it felt like when I used to have a really old car with a manual choke ( I know old fart) which gets left out too long and it wants to stall . Thinking about how it could be over fueling or the mixture was not correct I thought that the MAF had never been cleaned or replaced so I gave it a good clean with contact cleaner and ran the car through Birmingham in the rush hour and it was like a different car and the MPG increased by 5 MPG. I know that this might not be the cure for all clutch judders but as it only involves removing 2 screws and £5 worth of contact cleaner it might be a first place to start.
  6. I have a IS220d which lost power and was sluggish pulling away. I cleaned the EGR valve which was full of crap, this improved slightly but still not marvelous. My Son who is a mechanic removed the particulate filter and took it to work where he used a steam lance and then a pressure line to clear the DPF. When refitted it was like a new car, the acceleration and pick up especially in second was amazing and the MPG improved markedly. Most of my travelling is low mileage with a cold engine which obviously is not the best. I have decided that I should give it at least a 30 min run down the motorway at above 2000RPM which hopefully will stop this happening again. I do understand from other contributors that there are independents who will clean and regenerate the DPF for between £200 & £300 which is cheaper than Lexus. Hope this helps.
  7. Just heard back from Lexus and they are prepared to cure my dash rattle for £116, considerably cheaper than their normal price of £550. I have agreed to have it done but I am getting in touch with Lexus UK to point out the unfairness of the difference in warranty offered for the same fix. I hope that all of you who have this problem will bombard Lexus and complain. Steve.
  8. Just heard back from Lexus regarding the dreaded dash rattle and surprise surprise the warranty on this fix is 48months or 50000 miles in the states, but is 36 months or 60000 miles (whichever is sooner) in the UK. I would love to know why the UK always seem to be treated worse than other countries, surely the same problem and same fix should have the same warranty period no matter where the vehicle is located. Steve.
  9. Cheers for the bulletin L33, I have had this rattle and keep being told that I am the only one to suffer it. I am going to the dealer with a copy to show them, if nothing is done the car will be sold and I will probably buy a cheap but quiet VW, in fact anything that doesn't rattle.
  10. I bought a 2nd hand IS220d 3 months ago and I had rattles from my dash. I cured mine by pushing felt pads (the sort that you put on the bottom of chair legs) at either end of the dash, just where the pillars run against the dash. You can also get a rattle from the glove box, this is normally cured by fitting the same pads to the cover that fits over the pollen filter. Noisy and squeaky doors are cured by spraying the rubber seals with a silicon spray, this in small amounts around the centre consol also cures squeaks. Mine at the moment is quiet. Hope this helps.
  11. My Mpg on my 07 IS220d was poor at about 35mpg on motorway and 28 general driving. I took it into the dealer who updated the software, but they also noted that the EGR valve was leaking? They replaced the EGR and also a leaking water pump. Saturday I was going from Birmingham to Newcastle so I filled the car to the brim and set the computer when I started on the motorway and it recorded 48.9mpg. This was using cruise control and getting into 6th at just 80mph (too many vibrations below this speed) & 2000rpm. With the mileage around town this dropped to 44.3mpg. I refilled when I got back and worked out that it had actually averaged out at 45.1mpg. This is still lower than the Saab 2.2TDi I had before which averaged 57.9 on motorways but if it maintains these values I will be happy.
  12. Hi New to Lexus and site. i bought an approved Lexus IS220d 2 months ago with the full 12 months warranty. I thought the MPG was low at 37 on motorway drives so booked the vehicle in to Lexus. The outcome is that the EGR valve is leaking and I have an oil leak from the timing cover. Lexus have told me it has to be inspected by the Warranty company (isn't this Lexus) before any work can be carried out and only then if the Warranty company agrees. What i thought was amazing was that the service receptionist said the oil leak is not a problem because the oil isn't leaking onto my drive! Any thoughts on this one. Cheers Steve.
