  1. Don't you have problems with road noise? My tyres are really loud...When I bought the car and took it to the dealer before the purchase the service guy told me immediately: Oh, these tyres should be good in rain, but they will be very loud. And yes they are.
  2. Thanks guys, tyres are sold now unfortunately (I was thinking about taking them to the dealer with me and try...) they were at a price of about $1k with the OEM RX450h wheels (2k kms in the tyres). By the way I think the suggested winter tyre size for the RX400h is 225/65R17. 235/60R18 should fit according to this link where a russian 400h owner is selling this size from his 400h. I have 4 season Hankook Ventus tyres (with 6,5mm) on my 400h which I think is not a good choise. They were quite ugly in the hot summer period plus these tyres are very noisy (they are "V shaped tyres" with 2010 DOT numbers). I wonder how they will perform in cold central european weather + snow thats why I wanted to change for proper winter tyres. I have never ever used 4 season tyres before, maybe I should just give them a try and see how they work...
  3. Hi guys, I was looking for some winter tyres as I would like to change my 4 season Hankook Ventus tyres (they are pretty loud and I am not sure how good they will be in snow). I found Nokian tyres with Lexus wheels. Tyres are at 95% (barely used). The set is from a 450h (owner bought 19 inch wheels instead). (5*114,3mm, 7x18 wheel) Tyres are 235/60 R18 107V I am not sure they will fit my RX400h as the standard size is 235/55 R18. Do any of you use 235/60 R18 tyres on an RX400h? Thanks
  4. Thanks Duncan Roberts for the answer, great to read this. I spent some hours yesterday reading the RX forum here and happy to say found hardly any issues. (Check the IS topic and you will find a lot about the diesel one :( ) The thing that might be interesting for me is the "big service" at 100k when the timing belt needs to be exchanged. How much do you guys think that service costs approximately?
  5. Hi guys, I am currently owning a 2006 IS220d with about 145k kms (90k miles) in its ODO. As I am driving the car 85% in the city I would like to sell it now and I am looking for a 2006-2007 RX400h. As for the IS goes I love the car but I also feel this diesel is not ideal for city driving and there are some expensive parts that might need a change if I drive the car in the city. Plus I also need to mention I drive only about 9-10k miles (15k kms) in a year. As I had the opportunity to drive the RX for 3 days I already know it is a great car to drive. The IS is beatiful from outside but has hardly enough space inside, the RX is quite the opposite: not really my cup of tea as far the design goes, but plenty of space inside. I have a few questions to you: -What I am looking for is a 2006-2007 RX with about 120-150k kms (75-95k miles) in the ODO. Do you think that much a mile is still ok to buy a car? -Based on what I have read so far the RX might have one big issue which is the inverter. Is this a big risk? I mean is this a commom problem? Are there any other big issues with this car? -What about the tires? How often do you need to change them? -The batteries: Based on what I have read so far the batteries are still ok in almost all RX cars. Do you think this is true and that I do not need to worry about this issue? -Any other advices? Bonus question: -I have never really read about this, but do you think that the big battery could cause some "medical" issues? I mean your kids are sitting on a big bunch of batteries... Thank you guys. Ps: Sorry for any possible grammatical mistakes, hope you still understand :)
  6. I am getting about 8 - 8.2 liter/100 (35Mpg) in the city with normal driving (summertime with less traffic jams and warm weather).
  7. Scenario: Minus 10 degrees Celsius outside, you wake up and go to work with your car. Lots of traffic lights. How do you accelerate?
  8. As for myself I am just curious how economicaly I can drive in the city. Would I go faster, the next traffic light stops me anyway... So its just fan to learn the lights and get better numbers on the bc and besides I am more relaxed after I get out of the car :) Btw guys, what gear you use at 40km/h - 25mph? Sometimes the traffic goes with that speed... You keep saying its bad to travel at low rews, so you really use 2nd gear at this speed?
  9. I have had several discussion about this with egukem: http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/detail/368010.html As we are from the same country, I was curious how he does that. He is using the car at low revs, even at like 1100-1200. I was curious too if this has any negative effect on the car or not, he told me this is absolutely safe for the engine. I am not an expert of mechanics, and I am not using the car normally under 1300-1400rpm, but from what I have read on the internet it is safe to use the car at steady speed from about 1200rpm. (If you start the engine you will see 700-800rmp as "base rev" - dont know the exact english term for this - you should add 500rpm to this) Do you think this has any negative effect on the car though?
  10. Try 80km/h in 6th gear (1100rpm) you should get 3.9-4 l/100km Try 100km/h in 6th gear you should get 5-5.3 l/100km
  11. I agree, this is one of the best posts I have read here. Matus, just did your test: 8km (I know thats not a long trip) at about 58km/h (1700-1800rpm at 3rd gear) avg --> 4.4l/100 according to the board computer (with brand new cat and cleaned EGR, outside temperature 25C no wind). I think everything is fine with the car, though my avg consumption in the city is 9.4/100 without AC (sunroof open, thats way better at about 25-26C for my taste). Thanks for your advacies.
  12. Hi Matus, thanks for your advacies, I really appreciate them. How would you describe the optimal (fuel saver) accelleration? What do you think about the following? 1st gear: up to 2600-2700rpm than 2nd gear: up to about 2600-2700rpm than 3rd gear: from about 1600rpm to like 2700rpm Do you think I should go higher? When driving at about 120-130km/h (75-80mph) I was always using 6th gear, but I will try the 5th instead and hope will get some better compsumption.
