  1. Happy Birthday brownridge!

  2. So they have said that the seized caliper has caused the warping.
  3. After checking the discs, they were warped.... So new discs and pads. The car comes back tomorrow so hopefully that's it cured!
  4. Mot was done August 1st and was totally clean. Vehicle has done 12k since then
  5. good call, in fact they found a sticking brake caliper. They freed it off and put copper seal on it and thought it was cured- handed it back to me. No it's not, so they are getting it back next week to check if the brakes are warped ( that's just their guess so far)
  6. My 2001 gs430 (107k, full service history) has had new front discs and pads about 10k miles ago. Now it has developed a judder braking from motorway speeds suddenly. My specialist Lexus dealer thinks that the discs (or one of them) is warped. However, at the same time, there is a judder throughout the steering wheel between 60 and 80. I thought wheel balance at first and have had that done....it's made no difference. I am thinking that the wishbones or links might have play in them and that the wheel is not being held securely and that it's not the wheel balance or discs. Any expert opinion out there? Thanks Allan
  7. I tried a DVD cleaner ( without success) so maybe it is a CD Rom based system as scudney says
  8. Hello all, I have bought a set of 2007/2008 DVDs part number 86271-0w070,86271-60w370b to update my 2001 gs430 The screen is saying "unable to read DVD". Site founder and guru Monster Mat has suggested that the heads on the DVD reader may need cleaning. Anyone know if that's as simple as doing on your home DVD player or do Lexus make it more tricky. Anyone updated their DVDs and get it to work? Happy Christmas all Thanks for your wisdom, Allan
  9. Good luck with the Jag! I have come the opposite direction. Bought a 2003 X350 4.2 which was immaculate. Only later did I find aluminium corrosion all over the boot front edge, c pillars and bonnet edge. Had owned two Audis (a8 and S8) without any corrosion issues, so this was a surprise. Turns out the jag forums have jags inability to build the early Ali bodies correctly well documented. Car was 2 months outside body warranty. Local dealer not interested, jag customer services weren't interested so I was stuffed. Final straw was when the car broke down twice when it's Canbus wiring failed giving me multiple system failures (abs, air suspension, gearbox etc) and stranding me twice. This on a 78k car with full JSH. Decided that those who said Lexus were uber reliable should be listened to- so gs430 it is.
  10. I've just used them. Stuart and his guys fixed my p1651 code issue and seem to be top chaps, so I am happy to recommend them.
  11. Update...Stuart at Toyoda Tech fixed it for me at £60 and hour
  12. Just an update on my p1651 fault code. After researching the great info here and reaching out to the Lexus Owners club recommended specialists Toyoda Tech near Southampton, they have fixed the issue. As others have said, it was the ACIS VSV valve. The price of which has gone up to £62.42 plus of course they replaced the gaskets having had to take the inlet manifold off to get to the blessed valve. The killer, as others have said is that the work involved in getting TO the valve, meant a 7 hour labour charge (OUCH!). Hopefully all is well now and the dreaded EML light has gone out. Stuart at Toyoda Tech gave me great confidence that they knew what they were doing ( unlike my Lexus centre at Reading). He did the job exactly when he said he would and communicated well with me. It was worth doing the 1 hour each way journey to drop off and then collect the car to know that you are dealing with folk who know what they are talking about. Thank you Stuart!
  13. Lexus number 2...... after a quick dalliance with a 2000 GS430 which I susequently found out had been treated to a "haircut" of 200k, I part excahnged it for a 2 owner 80k full Lexus SH (shouldda done that before Malcolm!- duh!) which is in much better order. Had a rear caliper sieze and now have the P1651 eml issue but otherwise- all good!
  14. Hi Steve....it's the dreaded P1651 engine management code and my local lexus dealer doesn't know what the solution is and wants to have the car in for 3 days to investigate at £135+vat an hour
