  1. most wheels from Japanese cars have the same 114 x 5 hole stud pattern. most will have a similar ET (offset , distance between the center and mating surface of the wheel) i think anything from 35-50 will look OK. IIRC the main issue is clearance of the ls400 brakes. The 16" OEM ones only clear the caliper by less than 10mm. so the 16" IS200 wheels should fit. larger 17+ ones definitely.
  2. If it really is over fueling first likely suspects in order I'd check them - Temperature sensors(easiest thing to check) , Oxygen sensors and possibly the air flow meter.
  3. The first thing I'd look at is possibly one of the sensors in the actual head light unit is malfunctioning (i.e , it doesn't know when it has reached top). the height sensors don't usually give errors , they just crumble. easy to check as they are measuarable. (ohms change as you move the arm) the headlights do have their own computer (according to my service history anyway - as had one changed in warranty). It's a shame there is no specific (available) diag software available for the LS400. brake calipers are excedingly easy to work on on the LS , probly just filled with junk & rust. might as well clean both sides and change pads while you are there. and check disk of seized side , for warping/heat damage.
  4. oooooooOOO , if it is 120 pcd , means you could get some of the nice (IMO) oz opera or AMG from a merc.
  5. Bulb is a T10 / 501 / W5W. Made my own led versions by buying a load of led's and wiring into the bulb with glass removed. was something like £2 for 200 from Hong Kong complete with 12v resisors. using the rest on my motorbike for some real dazzling lights. the plug is for factory telephone box iirc. there is probably an ariel connector too.
  6. has been in previous threads. apparently under intake manifold. see thread - http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=62582
  7. with that mileage not a lot to change. My service book says to change the ATF every 36k , but I am fairly sure that is excrement. If you havent had a cambelt change in the last 10 years it will be time for another one. also it says change the brake fluid every 2 years , but dont think anyone ever does that either. Depends on how much money you have , if you leave it with the dealers and get all the 36 and 63 000 mile service jobs done you probably wont have change from 2000. as long as you keep the oil changes and cam belts done on time there is unlikely to ever be anything else to worry. I could photo the service schedule for you (take me a day or 2) but its no different than normal car stuff.
  8. It's nice to see one with wheels with the factory finish still. That is definetly a 1 in a million , lol.
  9. bulging flexi pipes or leaking seals in the servo would be my first guess without more info. like , does the pedal drop if you keep pressing realy hard ? do the brakes come on instantly if you jab the pedal and gradualy if you press gently. does the ABS work properly. remote chance, but could also be linked to a vaccum leak on the servo side and/or dodgy vaccum pump if the LS uses one.
  10. leave it , have more patients. it is definetly a buyers market for 4l V8 cars lol. spending about 1k on a 1995 , you should be getting something superb , fsh and some t&t. IMO of course.
  11. I watched the autoglass guy change mine , did it by himself in about 30 mins. droped it in with two suction thingys and taped it up , and said dont touch for a few hours. he didnt touch the wipers , just held them out the way by taping to the top of the bonnet. road noise same (ie none) and visibility 100% better. I'd recoment picking the trim back out and filling with as much window bond as you can fit in (silicone sealant I suspect may keep the water out , but not much else).
  12. If the O2 sensors in the exhaust are naff then that would equate to bad fuel useage. usual suspects would be water temp sensors (there is 2 or more iirc?) , O2 sensors and possibly air flow/temp sensor.
  13. Although the mechanics are mostly the same , there is external differences. From my own experiance the bonnets are different shape/angles so could well be a different screen. Had my mk4 screen replaced on the insurance last year , lol @ £750 with autoglass (plus my £50 excess). I guess the mk4 having optional rain sensors my indicate a different screen too ?
  14. If I am right and it has dual lumbar adjust then it will be the 2 switches that rock left/right near the back of the seat , one above the other.
  15. I assume the lumbar support adjusting is all working? , shopuld make a noticable movement when pressed. I guess you could get an upholsterers to stuff a bit more padding in where you need it. I wouldnt worry about stone chips on the bonnet , will take forever to rust noticably as the LS paint is very think and the metal too. Stone chips in other areas is different , if its wings or near the windscreen get sorted as they do rust.
  16. over mats for the overmats , could only hapen on an LS. also that sat-nav job is supremely neat , wish my skills were that good >__>
  17. isnt the mk1 the model where leaking PS pump leaks on tp the alternator? ,if so could also be alternator bearing shot and whineing under stress.
  18. I chose to remove the air intake things and to just push the battery aside when i had to change sidelight bulbs. I did try removing the headlights , but they didnt want to budge and saw how thin the plastic bits were so thought better of it. <10 mins to remove the air pipes/filter , but access is not anywhere near as good as if you remove the whole light. I am fairly sure mine were stuck down with that green mould you get on the rubber/foam sealing stuff , and couldn't be arsed spending all weekend cleaning it.
  19. could be 2 things i can think of. brake bipass valve that lets less/more pressure to the back depnding on cars height (on the principal higher=brake less to avoid skiding) or , possibly refering to the headlight leveling sensor contraption - the one behind the rear wheel is nearly always corroded and broken.
  20. well if it's a mk4 , you could just go by the 'range' on the dash rather than the fuel gauge (if its a differnt sensor?). empty light comes on at 68 miles left , and says "DANGER WILL ROBINSON" or something at about 22 miles left. if as BAZ FROM BOLTON says , his '98 has 49 miles range left , it would have beem about 1/2 way between empty and 'seat of pants' empty.
  21. an LS with an oil leak? .... not sure if I'd want that (or want to deal with) . probably the most worrying , would need to know where it was.
  22. direct line also , £460ish , with protected no claims. mid 30's with 7yrs ncb.
  23. never heard of them , but looks like it might be an excelent find. If they have done enough LS400 cam belts to fin it worth putting their qoutoed labour for the job on a main page I'd be thinking they do a few of them and would trust them on the basis of experiance. Not sure if it is supply your own parts or have to use theirs , either way £180 labour is pretty good.
  24. If you are going to one of the big nationals , you may aswell ask your nearest garages first. being nearer home to drop off , pick up (and hopefuly not complain) can save a lot of money and time. on a goolge about 'mr clutch' found this http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews95849.html and had many laughs reading the reviws.
