As background info. The Sunday Times 08.05.11 has an in depth answer to a reader's question on converting a second hand car to LPG in their section of In Gear, Car Clinic, page 10. As other LOC members have pointed out the payback time seems to be too long if you convert a second hand car to LPG unless you do a high mileage [an example is given in The Sunday Times] A worry mentioned in the Times was 'When fuel duty rises again next January, it will go up by 1p a litre more for LPG than it will for petrol and diesel:according to HMRC , this is specifically "to reduce the differential with main road fuels". So LPG may not be so much cheaper for ever.'

You say the EPA (USA equivalent of our EU testing) rates the car at 42mpg. I should be interested if this was a US gallon or an Imperial gallon.

The AA levered the top of the drivers door on one of my Camrys when I locked myself out. He inserted levers to bend the top of the door slightly open at the top, protecting the door with thin srips of rubber where the levers were inserted. He then inserted a wire with a hook end to loop round the inside handle to pull it open. A bent wire coat hanger? I looked at the the handle on my GS300 and the handle is similar to the Camry. I locked the door through the open window while inside the GS to test to see if pulling the handle would release the door and it did, but I don't know if this will work if the alarm is on. Of course you could damage the door or permanently bend the door so be very careful. You could ask an AA member ( if you are not a member) to ring the AA to see if they can help.
