  1. Very interesting to hear your views. I've gone the other way around, that is from an '08 LS460 SE-L to a '95 LS400.... don't ask why, just needing to be a lot more prudent at the moment. And while I certainly wouldn't say the 460 was a bad car, the 400 really doesn't feel much different when your in it. Especially when you consider I paid £38000 for one and the £1400 for the other. I'd say the new car was about the same in terms of noise but the many geared auto box was quite annoying as it was constantly changing gear and not always judging very well which one you were better being in. If i could still afford the 460 would i rather have one??..... of course I would :P . It looked super cool with fantastic presence on the road and I loved all the toys. Auto parking was daft but I miss ventilated seats in the summer and the heated steering wheel in the winter
  2. Personally I think the car looks great as is. There are loads of cars out there struggling to find buyers and yours would at least stand out. Anyway, I would one would be seriously interested in either the car or parts if you decided to go that way. Let me know! :winky:
  3. Spent 10mins yesterday under the LS400 liberally WD40ing every suspension bush and joint I could find. Wow...what a transformation! Not only were all the noises gone but I'd swear the handling and smoothness of ride has improved. Possibly its my imagination but it would seem that this is probably the best 10 mins you can spend improving your LS. Would advise anyone gives it go, noises or not!
  4. This lovely weather has lead to me having my window open while driving the last few days. Whilst having the window open I've noticed a noise from under the car when negotiating roundabouts. Difficult to describe the noise but somewhere between a creak and a knock. Also difficult to tell from which corner exactly. What should I looking at guys? Is this an excuse to get some of those lovely coilovers?
  5. Thanks for all tips. Waggling it around and resetting the memory worked..... for about 2 days, now back to normal Nevermind... just one of those little quirks that keeps it interesting
  6. My new wiper blades arrived and just fitted them. Fitting was straight forward apart from on the double armed side I needed to cut some plastic off the clip to fit over the mechanism. They appear to wipe very well and look sleek and modern (no rust or chipped black paint!). Good value I'd say B)
  7. Were they expensive? Do you have a pic with them on the car? Cheers
  8. I saw those ones on ebay, but my fault being vague, i mean the later chunky five spoke ones. Not sure how else to describe them
  9. It was these ones http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320557521271
  10. Would love to make my '95 LS look a little more contemporary with some nicer alloy wheels. The ones from LS430 look great but are like hens teeth to try and find. So a couple of questions really 1) Has anyone come across after aftermarket alloys with the right fitment that look good (and not chavvy) on an LS 2) When scouring ebay etc if I search Lexus LS alloys I'll get very few. After there other brand types (Audi or whatever) that fit?? Last point, if one of my learned colleagues has some they want to part with then do please let me know. Don't mind them being scabby as long as the price is right as I know a very good local refurber. Cheers All
  11. I ordered some of the flat ones of ebay at the weekend for about £7. I wanted to get rid of the existing ones cos they are very tired looking. I'll let you know what they're like when they arrive. I'm hoping they'll be easy to fit.
  12. Firstly, thats looks fantastic! Really transforms the car. I can't decide whether its the ride height or the wheels or if I'd need both to get that sort of look. Mines still on the original alloys, which while in excellent condition look pants and are a big contributory factor in dating the cars look. Second point, noticing the second silver LS in the background there... M425HPC. My silver LS is M415HPC.... Spooky!
  13. That's terrible but why?? .... Sometimes it helps to share these things... group therapy and all that.
  14. My '95 LS has lost its steering wheel memory. When I take out the ignition key it politely moves the steering up and in, out of my way (there's actually no need as I'm not an overweight American for whom this feature was no doubt designed). However when I get back in again it forgets to put the steering wheel back where it found it, hence now having to re-adjust it every time. It this the avoidable onset of dementia for my dear old thing or is there a cure?
  15. Again, as with the seat height issue, i'm just happy its as it should be and there's nothing broke Just out of interest... on the drivers seat heater, has anyone had this "fixed" by a garage or somewhere? Don't know if specialists exist for such things?
  16. Thanks for all the replies chaps... good advice a plenty. I'll check the undertray etc for "looseness" I'll learn to live with the seat height... feel better knowing there's nothing wrong anyway I'll also learn to live with a cold bum if thats a major hassle on the climate control, to expand on the issue a little, when i press the demist button the light comes on but the reason I suspect nothing is happening is that the fan speed isn't changin. On other cars I've had the fan speed would go to full on demist. Sidelight I'll attempt to remove and seal Thanks again all ... something to potter about with at the weekend
  17. Even the perfect car might have the odd issue fron time to time. Even Clarkson described it as (probably) the best car ever made!! Mine is also a '95 MkIII. At 6'2 I have never had an issue with the seat; tip the long adjuster front and back until the swab is virtually on the floor. Please be a little more desciptive re C/C and front demist. C/C will set the a/c if you hit (I'm using modern terms )auto. Revs will increase. The f/s demist will overide the auto and the blower will direct everything to screen. The orange light will come on. Does some or all of this happen? Notwithstanding other suggestions, the flapping noise may be due to engine cover or wheel arch liners, something trapped between the grill and condenser (front radiator to some folks), something trapped in the air intake or previous owner clinging on for dear life . Heated seat needs new element. Most dont bother because of the difficulty of fitting and warms it up in moments due to quality of upholstery. Side light issue; in some years of ownership and membership on here, this is the 1st time I've knowingly come across such an issue. They are not easy to get to so I would suggest aquisition of a replacement from Benfur ( use the pm facility, he's a trusted member). In the meantime drill a small hole for drainage.
  18. Hi All, First post on here though I've been a regular reader in the past. Just got my 3rd Lexus, a '95 LS400 with is pretty tidy and 144k on the clock. My previous cars were quite new and required no attention what so ever so this "mature" LS is a new departure for me. Anyway, to the point! The car is generally great and I'm very pleased for there are some issues to sort out which would make me even happier. Advice on all or any of the points much appreciated. Drivers seat height adjustment - it will move in either direction but doesn't seem to go down anywhere near low enough I think the climate control works but if I hit the front screen demist button nothing happens A flapping noise on pull away from the engine which stops once you get above about 25 mph 3 out of 4 heated seats work but not the drivers (switch lights up) Got a leaky sidelight that fills up like a goldfish bowl! Need a new one or easy fix? Thats it for now I think. Loving the car but just want to make it perfect!!! B) Many thanks
