  1. Right! Just for info , I've sourced a Caliper that's been rebuilt , all new pistons and seals , with 2 year warranty , for £100. I pay £160 but get the £60 back when I return the old caliper ... Does that sound like a reasonable price? The cheapest I could get locally (here in Dublin) was €240 for the caliper ... Fugh dat!!
  2. Hi all, I've been very much enjoying my Lexus ownership. Lovely smooth engine , fantastic gearbox. I thought she was perfect , but it was not to be!! In the last few days I've had massive steering and brake judder , all down to one seased piston on the off side front Caliper. Nothing new I know! Anyway, I've exercised and lubed the piston but I know it'll be back to haunt me before long. So Im going to order up a new or re-engineered Caliper NOW so it'll be ready to go when the old one sticks again. I've looked on line (and searched on this site) and the cheapest Caliper I could find was £150!! Do any of you have tips on where to buy a reasonably priced Caliper either new or refurb'd??
  3. Well folks , thanks for all your help... Bought this un yesterday , http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1975236 I've done only about 50 miles in her but she feels solid as a rock , no bad noises , no suspension issues , no judder , and ball joints recently replaced! RESULT! Thanks to this forum for all the information that helped get me the best possible car!
  4. I had a search but couldn't find anything on rotten petrol filler tubes , could anyone give me some info?
  5. Thanks all for your replies and support! I've been out of the country for the last week so not had a chance to follow any more leads. The plan is to look at this one next ... http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1975236 He has texted to tell me that the timing belt and water pump are recently done. Btw, how do I know if the fuel filler neck is rotten besides the obvious of putting petrol in a strangers car? :D
  6. Thanks Ian for the reply.. Well I went to see two '200's today. Crap! .. First really badly kept , a '01 with 3 stamps!! Worn to limit rear brake pads and discs, 70k miles on the odo but no new timing belt (I wouldn't be happy piling on the miles at this stage without a new cam belt)... Worst of all , ding and stone chip city! Plus the final insult , cigarette burns on the seats. The second one was a straight nono. It was the one that had had the top end done , he started her up ... 'tappetytappetytap!' This went on for th duration of the time I was there , the stealer trying to convince me it was because the car hadn't been started in a week. Yeah right! The search goes on. Question .... Am I being too fussy!?
  7. The title says it all! I've just sold my daily driver and have always fancied an IS200 (the 250 attracts about €1000 annually in car tax here in Ireland so it wasn't a runner). This will be a daily runner , to and from work , pick kids from school etc. I'm hoping it's as reliable as everyone makes out! I've read the buyers guide , and have been applying it to cars I've viewed and it has been of great assistance so thanks y'all for that! I've narrowed my search down to just one or two cars over here in Ireland , one that takes my fancy has 100k miles , but has just had an engine top end rebuild. Apparently the previous owner 'assumed' the timimg belt had been done. It hadn't.. So this will come with virtually a new engine , timing belt (I presume!!) , water pump , new brakes/discs and tyres. It is a ten year old car though .. Am I asking too much for it to be a reliable everyday driver?
