  1. Agreed. It looks much like a softened BMW E60 rear end. I somehow feel that the previous GS models had their own design identity, but Lexus lost the ball on this one by trying too hard to be someone else?
  2. Same consumption figures for me, and same car :) 5 miles each way to work and back on country roads, and then weekend Milton Keynes - London runs along the M1
  3. Funnily enough, I'm doing a PhD along the lines of this topic. As part of my research, I'm involved with a team developing hybrid powertrain for a certain automotive group based in the West Midlands Having driven a prototype Smart Fortwo Electric, a prototype Mini-E, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi iMiev, Prius, Insight, and the FCX Clarity, my vote goes to electric cars just for driveability alone. By having maximum torque from zero RPM meant that the Smart out-accelerated many turbo-diesels up to 30mph. And because all of its weighty battery cells were sandwiched inside the floorpan, it handled ridiculously well too. But for everyday use, I'm afraid its still hybrids for now, of which the Prius gets my vote. Its powertrain is still the industry benchmark and the hybrid synergy drive is simply a work of art (to me at least! )
  4. most things fast paced... i.e. eurodance, house, progressive, trance and the like ATB, Paul van Dyk, Way Out West, Deadmau5, Above & Beyond, David Guetta and Kaskade are amongst the names you will find in my playlist :)
  5. Delete all potholes, and improve road surface de-icing in winter. Oh, and make the Dartford crossing free!!
  6. I smell BS too. If your belt looks anything like this, then there is a high possibility that the tensioner has mis-aligned, causing premature wear on the cambelt. I suspect that your Lexus dealer may have skipped the pulley replacements previously, only to have them fail now. And then they decided to blame a piece of gasket from the water pump to cover themselves... Just my theory...
  7. This has happened to me too. Just like Parthiban mentioned, I suspected the immobilizer too and observed the red security light the last time it occurred. But the security light was not lit, so I doubt it was the immobilizer in my case at least. In all three occasions that it happened, the engine was cold. Twice in the morning while leaving to work, and once heading back home from work. Weird.
  8. It sounds like your gearbox. My car whines when I accelerate from gears 1 - 3 too. But my gearbox still shifts smoothly, and the whine remained even after I changed the gearbox oil, so I just left it...
  9. Didn't really noticed any change in handling, but my car used to have excessive "tramlining" over bumps and unevenness on the road surface, and this has certainly been reduced after getting the geometry done.
  10. I had my geometry looked at by Tony the man himself at WIM this morning :P Anyway, not sure if this will be much use to you but I had Kumho tyres on my old Mitsubishi Carisma, and I can't really fault them. They were alright in the dry and wet, and never really left me stranded in the snow last winter when many other cars were :)
  11. Wow some of you have really gone through a few cars! These are my cars with pics: - 1989 Nissan Sunny (B11) - Passed my driving test in this. Still got this one. - 1982 Datsun Laurel SGL (C31) - Handed down from my dad. Lovely cruiser, still got this one. - 1993 Hyundai Excel - 1992 VW Golf Cabrio (MK2) - 1998 Honda Civic (EM1) - 1989 Nissan Skyline Passage GT (R31) - What a car, absolutely love it! - 1997 Mitsubishi Carisma - 2005 Nissan X-Trail (T30) - Still got this one, being driven around by my parents - 2000 Lexus IS200 Sport. My newest addition. :) As you can see, I'm not much of a Japanese car fan...
  12. As the title suggests, I am looking for a set of 6.5JJ x 16" wheels to fit an IS200. They need not necessarily be Lexus ones, just as long as they are in good usable condition, with the correct offset and clear the brake callipers. I'm not too fussed about the colour/appearance either. Preferably pickup from Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire area cheers all :)
  13. It's a light sensor for either the climate control system or the automatic headlights. On some cars, you have two of them; one for each of the above systems.
  14. it sucks but hey that's life I guess. I try to avoid shopping during peak times as much as I can for this reason...
  15. black with gunmetal wheels... doesn't get any better than that! Nice car!!
  16. Ah right, I'd be keen to tag along with a club and attend this event with my IS if there isn't a stand from LOC this year. Care to name a few? :)
  17. keen as a bean!! B) Has there been LOC represents in the past?
  18. Well if you happen to be around the Milton Keynes area, you are more than welcome to test it out in my car :) Although it is quite possible that the iPhone's Bluetooth audio quality is better than my Nokia E71 in the first place!
  19. Cool, keep us posted on what they have to say. I just thought of a quick experiment that you could do to verify this. Have your iPhone docked to a home stereo and get hold of a Bluetooth earpiece. Play some music and see which unit responds. If it is the home stereo ONLY, then you shouldn't have any issues at all. Also get someone to give you a ring and see if the iPhone switches from the home stereo to the Bluetooth earpiece just for phone calls. If it does, then all should be good. However, if you hear your music from both the stereo AND the Bluetooth earpiece, then it is most likely that the GROM unit will default to audio via Bluetooth, I'm afraid... And just to clear any doubts... pairing a device to Bluetooth alone will not cause the GROM unit to disable the dock connector entirely. For instance, I always have my phone paired automatically when I enter the car, and the iPod still plays fine. Is it only when the Bluetooth receives an audio signal where it cuts out the iPod and switches over to the phone. This is not just limited to calls, but any beeps and sounds produced by the phone will cause the GROM unit to auto-switch to Bluetooth. But I find this okay because I frequently use my phone for navigation, and so the GROM unit does a good job of switching back and forth between the iPod and Ovi Maps, much like the cars equipped with factory navigation I guess...
  20. That's an interesting one... I don't have an iPhone so I have absolutely no idea lol! I guess its down to the iPhone to select which connection to send music through. But the GROM unit will auto-switch to Bluetooth if it receives any audio signals from that end, no matter what. I am just wondering if Bluetooth becomes redundant anyway if you connect your phone to the dock cable, because the callers voice will still be heard via the car speakers. The only difference is that you will use the phone's microphone instead of the Bluetooth one. So if you are able to position your phone properly, you may not even need the Bluetooth connectivity at all!
  21. no worries mate :) Just FYI, I got my system from Carputer UK Let us know how you get on!
