  1. Thank's dgman i've just put an order in on powerenhancer website. Here's hoping it will do the trick for me too.
  2. No, no VSC check or anything is popping up. I drive it as economically as possible and usually get 32mpg town driving, but this has dropped to 27mpg. Not sure wether or not to take it into Lexus dealer or local garage as dealership is quite a distance away. Getting it in the ear of the other half as i have not long spent a small fortune on new wheels and tyres and i told her buying a Lexus would be reliable. Unfortunately i didnt look here to read up on the 220d first. Appreciate you getting back to me so i can at least point the garage in the right direction and hopefully it will be an easy fix. Thank's. Edit: You got me looking now and im wondering wether or not to remove this and give it a clean myself. Would you consider this too big a job to take on?, consider myself a novice but from what iv'e seen it looks fairly simple.
  3. Hello, looking for a bit of advice really to see if there's a simple fix or what work im going to need done. The car has started intermittently running sluggish in 2nd and 3rd gear. A bit like turbo lag but but for an extended period of time. I can sometimes lift my foot off the accelerator and back down again and it will sort itself out. There are then times when i can drive around for the day with no problems at all. My first thought was to clean the EGR valve. It had'nt really built up that much from when i cleaned it the year before but it still needed a good clearing. I also gave the mass airflow sensor a quick clean while i was at it. Unfortunately the problem was still there. It was due for a service so i took it in for a full service hoping it may be something as simple as needing a new fuel fitler. The garage fitted new air,oil and fuel filter etc. but it's made no difference. The car is an 06 plate which i purchased just over a year ago with 20k on the clock which has just hit 30k so its not like its had a hard life. I always use decent fuel and add Millers diesel power sport 4 additive. There is also no engine management lights appearing. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
  4. Yeah, im sorry for the terrible explanation. Im sure somebody could explain it alot easier than me but hopefully i got my point across. To be honest i havent really investigated it too much. It's definitely coming from the engine bay but i came to the conclusion it wasnt due to something loose partly due to the fact you would expect it to vibrate more when the engine was cold. To me it sounds more like the engine is choking and struggling to keep turning over but its not a dramatic as that. The engine sounds fine until its reached temperature, ticking over nicely and then it sounds like its struggling. I will certainly have a good dig about and check the things you mentioned, hopefully it is something simple. The car actually runs fine and picks up well so im not too alarmed. Just concerned if anyone knew what it might be and if i should get it checked out sooner rather than later. Thank's for getting back to me :)
  5. I have an 06 plate is220 with 26k on the clock. Hard one to explain this but i will try anyway. Just recently i noticed the engine doesnt sound quite right when ticking over. From start up until fully warmed up the engine sounds fine but once warmed up it sounds like (my best comparison i can think off) a bus when sat at the lights. You know when you hear the panels on the bus resonating from the engine. It certainly isnt as loud as that, but thats the sort of sound the engine is making. Rather than a constant tick, tick, tick, tick its more of a drrrm - drrmm - drmm sound. (Dont laugh :P ) its the best way i can describe it. Other than this it sounds fine when driving, just when stationary at lights. Anyone have any idea what it may be and if i should be worried about it?, Couldnt face any big bills at the moment so close after xmas.
  6. That sounds like a good idea, if it comes back i will certainly be installing some of that. I researched quite a bit using this site before buying the car and most of the faults people have found i seem to be experiencing unfortunately. I also had a rattle in the dash. At first it sounded like it was right behind the centre air vents and sounded like something quite heavy was banging around. I turns out it was the cover for the centre speaker of all things. I couldnt quite believe it was just that which was making all that noise but a bit of packing seems to have sorted it. I also have a slight squeeking noise in the front passenger door but it is livable with so i have left it for now. I too cant believe a car like this is causing so many rattles. Out of all the cars i have owned and various rattles i have never experienced one as noisy as the one in the boot and wouldnt have been able to live with the car if it had carried on. I will certainly be trying out what you suggested if it comes back as i have already spent too much time hoping back in and out of the car trying to fix the problem.
  7. Dont mean to rake this old thread up for the sake of it but just wanted to share my experiences in the IS220D SE-L I had one of those unlivable rattles in the boot, it was that noisy. Trying to narrow down where it was coming from i drove around with the boot open and the rattle went. I then investigated the under the trim on the boot lid and found one of the velcro strips had came loose from the main part of the boot lid. I restuck this and the rattle went so i thought i had solved it. Unfortunately it came back so after getting drove around whilst lying in the boot i couldnt quite locate where the noise was coming from so i stripped the whole trim off the boot lid and upon feeling around a few things to see exactly what could be making the noise i managed to come across something which exactly replicated the noise. It turns out it was some of the wiring running to the center tapping and rattling against the metal of the boot lid. I got some double sided sticky pads and stuck them inbetween any wires that could come into contact with the metal. It doesnt look pretty under there but its done the job and the trim covers it all up anyway. Hope it can be of help to anyone.
  8. Thank's for the info, i will take a look and have a look into adjusting this myself if its not too much trouble.
  9. Hello, i have just picked up an 06 plate IS220 with 20k on the clock. Car seems to have been well looked after and has been fully serviced. My only concern is that when changing from 1st to second gear there's a rattle but going through any other gear's is fine. Tyring to explain what the rattle sounded most like, (forgive me for this) you know when you hear the chain pull a cart up at the beginning of a rollercoaster, its like that or a loose chain on a motorbike. Best way i can explain it sorry. It's not so bad i couldnt live with it, but am just wondering if this was a charectaristic of the car or if not, should i be worried about it? Thank's in advance for any advice. Paul.
