  1. thanks,I will have to keep a better eye out for the southern meets as I missed any mention of the last one.
  2. there doesn't seem to be much on the forum in the way of meets for SC430 owners in the SE ( I admit there may be such topics and I've missed them ) so I thought I would see if there is any interest . I am in Berkshire ( Twyford ) and would be happy to meet up anywhere in the Berks,Oxfordshire,Hampshire,Surrey area. I have in mind somewhere nice to visit and park up and have a chat about our cars, perhaps take a picnic or somewhere with a nice old pub nearby. Obviously I am thinking of when the weather gets a bit warmer as I tend to hibernate during the winter but if anyone knows of a pub with a decent fire that we can sit around then maybe we could do it before then. Thanks for reading
  3. planning to get a new set of wheels to replace the ugly 'dustbin lid ' alloys currently on the SC430 and wondering whether to go all the way and replace the run flats with standard tyres. I'm sure lots of you guys have switched to standard tyres so how did you get round the spare/no spare problem ? Also,if I change to non Lexus alloys ie no low tyre pressure sender, does the low tyre pressure light stay on all the time ? If it does I'm guessing it can be disconnected . Thanks
  4. been reading this with interest as the tyre pressure warning light came on yesterday. One of the tyres had gone down to 27 so presume it was this one, pumped them all up to 33 and warning light has gone off. However, has made me think I will not change the wheels but just get the existing ones refurbed. This is probably a dumb question but here goes anyway:can you take the wheels off,put them back on,swap them round without affecting the tyre sensors?
  5. thanks Andy, that could give me some more options.
  6. thanks, nice wheels but I thought the price was a little ambitious (code for taking the p... ). On the other hand they would certainly make the car look good. I'm sure the right alloys will come along at the right price its just a question of being patient.
  7. the more I look at the alloys on my 2001 SC430 the more I dislike them. What on earth was the designer of those plastic manhole covers thinking of ? So rather than get them refurbed methinks another set of alloys is a better spend. My question is am I restricted to SC430 alloys ( ie later model)or will other Lexus model wheels fit the 430 wheel studs. I don't want to fit wider or bigger wheels the OE spec is fine. All inf is welcome as I'm really a learner on this car.
  8. thanks tel.I shall be calling into the local LPG place in Slough next time I'm passing.
  9. that is very interesting tel999,is your engine the same 4.3 V8 (you will have to forgive my ignorance of these cars and their engines ). One of the things at the back of my mind was that if the car proved a hit ( and it is )I would look into a LPG conversion. What system have you got ? Somewhere else on this forum is a post that says the LPG conversion on their car has not workrd as the LPG consumption equates to the equivalent of about about 18mpg ,and their LPG fitter can't find out what is wrong. The figures you are quoting make it look well worth considering.
  10. have now had a couple of weeks to get used to the posh Toyota and I have to say the SC430 is a fabulous car. I bought the car on spec for a very reasonable price on ebay thinking if its as bad as its 'reputation ' I can simply sell it on without losing the proverbial arm and a leg.It just goes to show how wrong the popular image of a car can be. To my surprise the computer is showing 23.6 average mpg which I thought was quite good, this is mixed mileage I have not been on any long runs yet. Just curious to know what other people are getting in terms of mpg. Also, just read the post on the mpg improvement that someone got from fitting magnets on the induction system. I can't help thinking this has got to be the automative equivalent of a cure for baldness but................ its worth a try if they are cheap. Anyone know where you can buy these 'magnets' or get inf on them?
  11. the control switch on the drivers side for the passenger window has stopped working. The switch on the passenger side works the window fine. It looks as if the window switch panel on the drivers side just pulls out to gain access to the switches but without a workshop manual am a bit reluctant to start levering it out. Anyone else had the drivers side window switch panel out ,if so is it just a pull out/push back job? Thanks
  12. always liked the look of the SC430 so about a week ago I bought one off ebay and its a beaut. Its not the daily driver ( thats what Volvos and Fords were invented for )but it will still be used regularly, particularly in the good weather. I am struggling to find out if there are any SC430 owners meetings as I can't seem to navigate through that topic.I'm in Berkshire and it would be nice to get together with any other owners in the Thames Valley area.
  13. Gareth, had my SC430 for about a week now and have come to the same conclusion, what a fabulous car and only a fraction of the price of a similar year/condition SL.Having read Clarkson's diatribe ( and others of a similar view )on how bad they were it just confirms my opinion of the motoring 'press'having their heads stuck up their backsides. My only criticism is those plastic manhole covers stuck on the alloy wheels are just not attractive and detract from what is otherwiswe a very stylish body.Perhaps I'm being a bit picky? Haven't been able to figure out yet if there is any SC430 get together events in the south east.I hope there is as it would be good to chew the fat with a few other owners.
  14. thanks aquanuke.I suspect I will be picking your brains as I get to work my way over this car.
  15. had my new toy (SC430 ) for a couple of days now and car can be summed up in one word 'wow !'.Even Mrs T says it is a very nice car and not many get that accolade from her.It looks so much better in the flesh than it does in the photo's. The only thing I cannot find in all the manuals/paperwork is any reference to the radio code so I don't know if it is a coded unit, and disconnecting the battery will kill the audio system,or not.Its a Mark Levinson unit. Anyone got any ideas on this?
  16. a champagne coloured SC430 passed me as I was walking into Waitrose car park today about 6.15 pm and just wondered if the owner was a member of this forum.
  17. no dealer involved, their pricing of these cars tends to be silly/ludicrous.Bought it privately on ebay so I take the car as it stands. It was a very reasonable price (hate the word cheap) and I factored in about £500 to allow for a belt change.I will call into lexus in Reading next week and enquire.
  18. am picking up my new toy in about a week-sc430,2001, 77K on the clock,FSH. I am guessing its about due for a cambelt change and was just wondering what this will cost at a Lexus main dealer. Thanks
  19. just bought my first Lexus a few days ago on ebay- 2001 SC430,78K,interior as new, exterior quite good but not concourse. For reasons I won't bore you with am not picking it up for about 10 days.My only doubt is the run flat tyres which will be a first for me but until I've done a few hundred miles I cannot prove/disprove my prejudice about these tyres. This will replace an Alfa Spider ragtop as my Sunday afternoon car as the boss will not go in a car without heated seats in cold weather and cannot get the dog or grandchildren in the back of the Spider. One of my kids asked me if the car came with a can of fake tan and a chunky gold bracelet ?!It never struck me as a medallion man car but after some thought I remembered that my dad came from Essex and so told him 'of course it does, your grandad would be proud.....' Looking forward to sharing the SC430 experience with you all.
