My understanding is there is not duty on products from Japan under £135 ?
See here……

I’m a firm believer of a mechanical deterrent, the Stoploc pro elite does just that, if there are 3 cars like yours in one street, yours would probably be the one still on the drive in the morning , as the other cars without a Stoploc would be the easer target .
Yes I live in the real world and if a thief wants your car he will get it but it’s just reducing your percentage chance of it being you .

This is one of the few mechanical devices that is Thatcham Category 3 approved, seems £55.00 well spent 👍🏻
With electronics devises the thief doesn’t know what’s fitted to your car until he’s ripped out the bumper and wiring , with a Stoploc it can be seen as theft approaches the car …again it’s about reducing the percentage of you car being taken for the £55.00 outlay .

If you do explore that avenue, be aware these companies don’t always get involved with import cars ☹️

Could it be the ECU?
Think you might of hit the nail on the head , the 2001-2003 RAV4 has know problem with corrosion on the gearbox ECT, if the problem is fixed early the gearbox survives.
See if these guys can advise you…

Will be sticky side facing the world then.
Just don’t put your hand on it then 😉

Put the tape on the inside will look less noticeable…then black it over with a marker pen 👍🏻

The speed sensor is also called an ABS sensor, so a look on the internet for a Lexus sc430 nearside rear ABS sensor, a few come up from genuine £270 to £35.00 copy a part.

Slightly more concerning if it wasn’t the Lexus it might have been the horse in the background 😮

Owner said he was going to speak with his insurance, I would have fixing it and keep away from insurance.
Insurance wise, it could have been bought back but would be classified as a Cat C and worth less on resale .Fixing it might cost 2k but with a retail of upto 8k…. Decisions decisions !

Blimey these are a bargain …maybe I should have kept these to myself 😉

There seems to be a genuine interest in the USA spec w/shop manuals here , guess a fair percentage of the contents would be relevant to UK cars.
Will add what I feel is good value for money . Don’t think the year is too important for general repairs .
These seem well priced with sensible postage ….

Note…also open to sensible offers !
Please add anything I might have missed 👍🏻

I was just thinking the location of the filler valves look straightforward for the mechanic to top up or refill.
Yes one port behind the grill and the other near the top on the n/s inner wing .

Is that your own equipment Bob or at a garage?
Not my gear…Mobile guy came to my home
👍🏻As I was chatting with the guy I was thinking how does he know how much weight of refrigerant to put in…turns out it’s sitting on scales as he fills it 😎

I was at a car show back in 2017 at Knebworth and Lexus has a display of their latest models, I sat in all the cars and was asked to do a questionnaire…..my reward was a genuine keyring 😎…….anyway I went back 3 times (different salesmen)😁😁
One went on my previous SC430, have one on my current car and one in reserve for a future Lexus 😉

I have the brakes & suspension manual, that’s all I’m working on at the moment….like to get all the torque setting correct.
eBay had a discount coded day a few weeks back and got it from the States , £86.00 inc p&p.
Only other one I’m interested in is the engine manual but no rush .

I am looking for something to use daily - interested in an SC430 - found a low mileage 2005 one but not sure what values these should go for...really new to the SC430, always admired them and we have an ES300h - but don't know where to start with pricing for an SC.
Any advice on pricing and what to look for?
furthermore - found this Isuzu dealer who has 2 for sale: Search Used Cars for sale in Great Glen, Leicestershire | Bob Gerard Ltd
Any thoughts?
Apologies if much of this has already been asked and said before in this and other threads - if so please ignore.
This thread would be a good read to get familiar with the SC430 👍🏻
The 2005 model you show above looks very tidy and presentable, parking sensors front and rear are a nice extra .
Last years mot test commented on a rusty rear exhaust, I can see in the photos, it has an aftermarket stainless steel rear exhaust section (or maybe the whole thing)..you would need to ask to be sure .
cracked tyres want replacing before you buy .
The grey wheel refurbishment looks out of keeping with the car, so would look better back to silver.
Interior looks very clean for its age and cream does take more effort to maintain over black.
few cracks in the leather on the drivers seat , nothing a leather dye treatment wouldn’t fix .
Ask the dealer if it’s had a timing belt and water pump .
price is rather top heavy, yet good quality example can ask their own price .
as I say have a read of this thread and you’ll be an expert …or at least an armchair expert 😁😉
