  1. Morning all. Well I'm sad to say it, but I think it's time for the IS to go. It's been absolutely faultless and I love the car, however I'm hopefully starting a new job soon - a great opportunity and a lot more money, but it's also a lot more of a commute, With the notorious fuel economy of the IS and the other running costs it just doesn't make sense for me to keep it so I'll be selling it and buying something dull and diesely. Given that everyone who does more than a mile a week thinks they need a diesel supermini, how hard are these cars to shift? Would autotrader be the best place or do I need to look at more specialist places (here/other jap forums etc). Any other words of wisdom for selling thee, things most buyers look out for? Fwiw, the car is an 05 sportcross with nav, 2 previous owners although the first was Lexus themselves as it was a showroom car (first service stamp at 2 miles!). 116k miles with servicing always done on the nose, mostly by Lexus. A few minor knocks and scuffs but generally very tidy, immaculate inside. There's a bit of bubbling of the paint on the tailgate - its aluminium so it's not going to be rust, but should I sort it first? It's standard apart from having the 17" wheels rather than the 16s and recently refurbished in a gunmetal colour. Oh, and an iPod interface, I was thinking about advertising it at £3295 with a view to take £3k...does this sound reasonable? Thanks for any help or pointers - last time I had to sell an "unusual" car (Saab 9-3 aero) it took ages!
  2. Hi guys, I know this gets asked a fair bit, but I'm yet to find a definitive answer. My car is an 05 SportCross which has the separate amp - instead of the 2 6x9s that the saloon has, this has a sub and 2 tweeters in the boot. I primarily use the existing stereo with an xcarlink ipod interface, but I'm fed up of not having decent navigation of the iPod, so wanting to go aftermarket, something like the Alpine CDA-137BTi. I would go double din, but nothing sub 300 quid that I can find has rear USB and my iPod is tucked in the armrest. So, the fascia - there's a few around but I dont want to have to modify something myself to keep the heated seats, so it looks like it's the autoleads fasica - are they really such a bad match in terms of finish? Now, the wiring.... I was probably just going to use the amp bypass lead and then install a third party sub and amp if I needed it (or maybe even use a small third party amp on the stock sub), but I've read that the amp bypass lead will result in losing the OEM nav - can anyone confirm? So I could use the Metra TYTO-01, but have read conflicting reports about that one. Then there's the BeatSonic SLA-91AD http://www.beatsonicusa.com/beat-sonic-sla-91ad.html - this retains the use of the factory nav (despite saying it doesnt, have read threads which say otherwise) and amp but it's VERY expensive!! I know there are schematics for a bypass module, I used to be quite handy with a soldering iron but really dont want to be doing that if I can avoid it. Can someone clear this up, or am I just better sticking with what I've got?
  3. Hi guys, I was looking for some guidance on narrowing down a few niggles with my 05 is200 sportcross (115k miles on it). The car is in great condition mechanically and has always been looked after by Lexus, but I've got the following irritations - a clunk from the front suspension over bumps. Sometimes tiny bumps can make a noise, other times it won't even do it over speed bumps. All bushes and things are ok, no play in the suspension and it does it under braking so it's not the slide pins. Maybe the shock, but how to confirm other than replace them? - engine "wobble", backing off or gear changes result in a shudder - not a vibration from the clutch or anything, more like the engine is rocking. Assuming old worn engine mounts, but again how to confirm this? - a metallic rotational grinding but only at a particular angle when turning left. Won't do it on right angles but long sweeping left hand corners sets it off. Sounds like disk back plates but they seem fine. Nothing obviously wrong behind the front wheels, nothing fouling that I can see or anything Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
  4. Why worry about thirst with such a low mileage? Will make a few quid a week differece if that - other costs of running the car will be much higher I'm new to the Lexus fold, but just spend 3500 on an immaculate 2005 is200 sportcross :)
