  1. Good thinking Herbie, I'll try that tomorrow. Doing an Easter Egg hunt with my youngest granddaughter at the moment😁😁😁
  2. Thanks Herbie, is there any way that I can check the voltage when it's under load?
  3. I charged the battery again yesterday morning and the reading it gave was just over 19v, I noticed this morning that it seems to have settled at about 17.5v, is this too low for it to drive the strimmer effectively? Can someone tell me if this will work please, I have an 18v battery that belongs to my Makita drill, if I connect a couple of wires to the motor on the strimmer and then touch these wires on my 18v battery, this should drive the motor and indicate if the motor is in good working order shouldn't it, or am I playing with fire trying that?
  4. I am trying to help a friend out with a problem with a strimmer. The item has an 18v Ni-CD battery and is charged with a Bosch AL60DV 2411 7.2 - 24v charger. The problem is we don't know if the charger isn't charging or, if it is, the battery isn't holding the charge. There seems to be 4 connectors on the battery, three of them are flat plates that are approximately 10mm square, there is one each side of the part that slots into the charger with one on the radiused part if it, the 4th one is a small pin that is on the + side. This pin doesn't seem to connect to anything in the charger and I don't have the actual strimmer with me at the moment so can't tell if there is a corresponding connector in the tool. If I put the multimeter on the two flat plates on the side, I am getting a reading of 19.51v which to my mind seems quite good. I also get this same reading if I put the probes on the + plate on the side and on the flat plate on the radiused part. What sort of reading should I be getting from the actual charger? If I put the probes on the two connectors that come into contact with the side plates, all I am getting is a reading of 0.01v I have attached a couple of images that may be of some help. Thank you for any help that may be offered.
  5. Thanks again for your input Herbie. Both of the chargers seem to be OK. One of them gives a reading of 27v and the other shows 26.9v. As regards the batteries, I cannot get a reading of any sort from either of them. The one battery is for the hand held vacuum and the other is for the actual carpet sweeper type vacuum. Do you have any idea as to the slots on both batteries that appear to be similar to what a USB cable would plug into on the rear of a printer? I can't imagine that you could charge these batteries from a USB connection.....................................or can you?
  6. Hello Herbie, what a splendid reply, thank you so much. Yes I do have an Auto-Ranging meter similar to yours. I will follow your instructions and see what I can find. Any thoughts on what the charger might be pushing out? I would have thought that I would put the red probe down the centre hole and then the black one would touch the outer bit, does that sound about right? Thanks again for your help, very much appreciated.
  7. Hello folks, Does anyone know how I can check a Gtech vacuum battery please. I need to check the battery to see if it has died completely (or not) and the charger if possible to see if it capable of charging. I have a multimeter but I wouldn't know where to start as there are numerous connections where the battery clips onto the vacuum, it looks like six little terminals. The end of the charger looks like the type that would plug into a torch or something similar. I wouldn't know what setting to use the multimeter and exactly where to put the probes. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  8. Wonderful input from you all as usual, thank you chaps. Just off to pick up my wife's 20 plate Peugeot 208. Might just have a look at a 3008 whilst I'm drinking their coffee😜😜 Thanks again.
  9. Yes Phil I do love my Lexus and the brand is certainly the best I have ever owned without a shadow of doubt. With the car now being 7 years old, I'm not too sure if things might start to go. I thought about getting something perhaps 2 or 3 years old, the Peugeot 3008 caught my eye but, would it be as reliable as my NX? The overall running costs would be less. such as insurance and servicing. Replacement parts when required would almost certainly be cheaper than Lexus parts. The other thing at the back of my mind is, how much longer will I be driving, it could possibly be another 8 to 10 years with luck I suppose. I shall be 81 shortly. I suppose I could keep the NX until that day arrives and hope it doesn't require any huge outlay.
  10. Hello folks, My next service is due in November and I have a Service Plan in place which covers this one and the one due in November 2022. I also have an extended warranty in place (the 2 for 1 jobby) which expires in January 2022. From what I have been reading on the forum, the warranty that I have will simply end then and, I am assuming that the new Relax Warranty will be put in place following this November's service. There won't be any refund due as I have claimed on the warranty this year. My car will be 7 years old at this next service with 35000 miles on the clock and, I think that I have read somewhere on here that Lexus no longer provide the Essential level of service. With this in mind I am wondering what my best options will be, stay with Lexus or go independent servicing. Are the Lexus servicing costs listed anywhere? I went on to Lexus UK but couldn't find anything. I'm not sure that I can afford to upgrade to a newer Lexus and so am considering other brands where the running costs might be a bit lower. Any thoughts will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  11. Sorry Dylan, I was particularly interested in the five that were stolen local to you. I can't imagine that they were all Lexii (if that's a word 😉) were any of them?

  13. Just a bit of info that may possibly give a bit of peace of mind to some members re the cat thefts. I was in the Lexus dealership in Exeter yesterday and I raised the matter of the Toyota UK Press Release which says that "Toyota is offering the Smar****er marking free to all Lexus owners, who simply need to call their local Toyota or Lexus retailer to arrange a visit". I was advised that My NX and my wife's Yaris Hybrid are both regarded as being "very low risk and therefore the covert marking is deemed as unnecessary" Hope this helps some of you at least.
  14. Nick, Lexus Exeter have advised me that there is not a Catlock available for the NX300h. Have a look at this thread, there may be others. NX Catalytic Converter Thefts? - Lexus NX300h / NX200t Club - Lexus Owners Club
  15. Well chaps, the AA chap has just left and he managed to sort it. He tried all sorts and nothing worked, he couldn't even get the mechanical key to work. After a while he went and sat in his van and was fiddling about with the fob and, I was stood by my car when it suddenly unlocked! When I asked him how he managed to do that he said that he had 'cleared the capacitors' because the fob had apparently become out of sync. I didn't realise that such a thing could happen. Because I was so chuffed that he had been able to sort it, I foolishly forgot to ask him why the mechanical key didn't work. I must go out and try that in a minute. I now know what to do if this happens again. You simply take the battery out and hold the buttons in for 20 or 30 seconds, and this clears the capacitors. I do still have one other problem though, and that is, my spare fob doesn't actually work despite my fitting a new battery in it. Does anyone know if these are repairable? Thanks again for all the input.
  16. Any recommendation for a new 12v battery and anyone know of any good deals at the moment? Is the dealership a good place to go? It's likely to be my battery I think as the car is 7 years old and I'm pretty sure that it is the original.
  17. I have followed the procedure. You have to pull the handle to get at the keyhole, you then insert the key and turn it, take the key out and let the handle go back to its normal position and the pull it again to open the door. Didn't work though.
  18. Yes I have Lexus Recovery but they'll have the same problem, just can't get in electronically or mechanically.
  19. Yes I was thinking that. How do you get over a problem such as this if the mechanical key won't work? I was out in the car on Tuesday and so the 12v battery shouldn't be flat. I wonder if I left something on!!!!!!!
  20. Hi chaps, thanks for coming in on this problem. Very strange, I can't even open the doors with the mechanical key. just going to have a look in the manual to see if I can open the tailgate with the mechanical key.
  21. Hello folks, Tried to open my car this morning but can't get anything from either of my keys. I have tested the batteries in both and the readings are 2.99v in the one I have been using daily, and it shows 2.95v in the spare. Is this not enough power to open the doors?
  22. Here is my 'Tongue in Cheek' idea for a Catalytic Converter Theft Deterrent. It would be very easy to construct using reclaimed railway sleepers and a sheet of 18mm Marine Ply. It would be a bit of an eyesore and also somewhat of a trip hazard for your visitors (and the postman) but it would stop the scumbags from getting their jacks under your your beloved Lexus. You would simply drive onto the plywood, just as you would drive onto a normal service ramp at your local garage. I'm not the best illustrator as you can see but, it's all done with a few giggles in mind 🤣 Enjoy the sunshine folks and stay safe. Catalytic Converter deterrent_1.pdf
  23. I had these on my previous IS250, took them off when I sold it so that I could fit them on my IS300h, unfortunately they didn't fit so I've still got them. Can't even put them on my NX!
