  1. Hi again Chris, Thanks again for this info. That all works out quite inexpensive then. I thought that there would be another charge for getting the 57 plate but, it seems that about £150.00 will cover all. Thanks again.. Just hope that I get a buyer now, fingers crossed, don't know what the private market is like at the mo. Not very impressed with what Lexus are offering me, especially as I've only had the car for 8 months!
  2. Hi Chris, thanks for coming in on this. Any idea of the cost involved in re-registering my car with the original number plate or just another 57 plate. I am aware of the £105.00 to retain my private plate. I suppose I could get the ball rolling now to re-register, that would save a bit of time.
  3. I will soon be putting my car up for sale on Autotrader and am hoping to replace it with a similar spec (SE-L Multimedia) IS250. I currently have a personalised number plate on my car which i wish to retain ready for the next car. i know that to retain the plate will cost me £105.00 and that I will have to re-register my current car with either the original number or an appropriate year plate i.e. 57. I am wondering if anyone on the LOC has completed this procedure when selling their car privately. I imagine that it is a much easier process if a deal is done by way of part exchange where there is only a garage/dealership involved. My concern is that if i secure a buyer and complete the re-registering process and then the buyer backs out for whatever reason, what happens then? Obviously if I get another buyer immediately, no problem but if I should then fail to sell it, can I cancel the re-register? Hopefully someone will read this who has gone through the process and will be able to explain. Many thanks in advance of some help/guidance. P.S. Too many options to go through to get to speak to anyone at the DVLA, thought I might get a quicker answer here.
  4. Some really interesting thoughts have been put forward on this topic and i thank everyone for their input. i didn't think for a moment that it would generate such a response, I was expecting something along the lines of " Yea I use ABC123, and get great results" Anyways it has made for good reading so i've decided not to buy todays paper, I'm going to read all of this again! Thanks to all again.
  5. Thank you to everyone who offered their thoughts, some quite interesting ones from typo's to sun roofs, the most recent explanation from ColinBarber seems to be the most valid explanation so when i get a few minutes to spare I will investigate further. Thanks again to all.
  6. Looking for an IS250, I have spotted another version called an 'SR' can someone give me a little more info on this particular model please. Many thanks.
  7. I have posted a number of times regarding the EGR Valve on the 220d and, coupled with this, my subsequent change of direction in regard to the fuel that I buy. I was pointed in what I now regard as 'the right direction' by the valued comments of other members and now ony use Shell diesel in my car (It doesn't have to be Shell, just NOT supermarket fuel) along with Bardahl B10 Fuel Additive at each fill-up (doesn't have to be B10, there are other proven additives available - see the many comments on this forum) This action has shown to be very beneficial, the car runs extremely smoothly, the acceleration is great and so is mpg return. As I am now looking around to buy an IS250, I am wondering if any 250 owners have followed a similar tack with regard to their purchase of petrol, and do they use any additives at each fill-up and if so, what do they recommend?
  8. Thanks again for all this information, most helpful. Not sure that I can wait a few months to change, mine seems to be losing money by the day. I think that I can do better by selling privately, though I'm not too sure what the market is like. I could give it a go on Autotrader to see what happens. Not getting too good a figure from the dealer in PX at the moment.
  9. Hi Tango, thank you for your valued explanation, makes life much easier for me when searching for the car. I am probably looking for a 250 from 2005 to possibly 2009, do you know if there were any changes made to the vehicle during this time that would make it preferable to go for a later rather than earlier model, i.e an 08,or 09 over an 05, 06 or 07 for instance. I will definitely be going for the same spec that I have at the moment, SE-L Multimedia. Thanks again for your help. Thank you too to TonyGoose for correcting my title, much appreciated.
  10. I am currently looking to replace my 220d with an IS250 but am a little confused at some of the vehicle desciptions and would appreciate a little help/guidance please. Looking through the adverts I have spotted vehicles described as 'Automatic' (self explanatory) 'Semi-Automatic' and CVT. With these choices available, what are the differences if any and, is there a 'best one' to have. I was wondering if it is just a case of the cars being the same and, that it is just the advertisers describing their vehicles differently. Also, whilst on the subject of the IS250, what is a 'Navigator' I shall be going for an 'automatic' of some sort as I have heard that there are not too many manual versions around and, that the auto gives a better return in respect of mpg anyway. Thank you in advance of any advice. P.S Looks like I can't spell difference but, I tried to correct it but couldn't get into it, sorry
  11. Hi Geof, I was really interested to read this post as a cousin of mine purchased a CT200h (he px'd a 220d to buy it) and only found out about the spare wheel issue some weeks after the purchase. He too wasn't enthralled by the prospect of a 'compressor and goo' in the event of a problem, particularly as he went off to France for 3 weeks on the 10th of the month. He is obviously keeping his fingers crossed all of the time he is away! I intend to send him a text in a minute and I shall relate your experience to him, I'm sure that he will be really pleased to hear that there is a good solution to the problem. Thanks for letting us all know, extremely useful. Regards, Geoff
  12. The figure is for all GS vehicles however as Lexus stopped selling the GS300 a couple of years ago this is a 450h only figure. The number is so low because: 1 - The GS has never been that popular in the UK 2 - Lexus left it too late to introduce a new model and announced it too early so existing sales dried up 3 - The general state of the UK economy I'm sure there will be some lower mileage 450h's about, just have to be a bit patient. Make sure you look at one if you haven't already to make sure you are happy with the small boot. Thanks again for the info, much appreciated. Is the boot smaller than the IS then?
  13. Hi Chris, nice of you to offer and, much as I would like to take you up on it, tis is little over my budget I'm afraid. Thanks anywayP.S. Are you buying another one? Hi Geoff, yes I have a GS450h f sport on order, should be delivered around the 5th June, good luck in your search you may find more 450h,s on the market as the new one start arriving in June. Chris Hi again Chris, Lucky man! if you look hard you will see a little touch of the green monster in my eyes!!! Good luck with the new car....enjoy!!!! P.S. I think you mean July don't you?
  14. Hello ColiBarber, Gosh, what staggeringly suprising figures you have quoted. When you say only 80 GS cars, does that figure include the 300 too? I have spotted only 13 450h's on AutoTrader and as I say, most of them have quite high mileages in comparison to the IS250. Is this generally because they are used by executives as company vehicles and tend to be hurtling around the country on a regular basis? I am thinking of changing my 220d to either an IS250, a GS300 but, someone mentioned to me that the 450 returns a better mpg and it was this that made me have a look at them but, I was put off by the high mileage so I think that I am back to the original choice of 250 or 300. I have an appointment at a Lexus dealership tomorrow to see what is on offer. Hopefully I might strike it lucky!
  15. Hi Chris, nice of you to offer and, much as I would like to take you up on it, tis is little over my budget I'm afraid. Thanks anywayP.S. Are you buying another one?
  16. I have been exploring the market for GS450h models and have noticed the almost non-exisistent availability of low mileage models, whereas if you look at the IS250 there is an abundance of them about. Anyone have a logical explanation for this? I can only summise that GS450h owners enjoy driving them so much that they just keep on driving and driving........and driving!
  17. I think it's what turned my hair grey!!!!! Love your motors Graham, wow!
  18. Hello Steve, Thank you for that. I must admit that I was becoming a little worried when to me it appeared that I was the only one with a warning bar! You have put my mind at rest, thank you.
  19. Hi Folks, I have noticed that in the box on the left of any threads/posts that I make, there is a bar across the bottom beneath my details that says 'Warn Status' I have yet to find this against any other members threads/posts and am wondering what it is. I have tried to find out by contacting one of the Mods but cannot get a reply. Anyone know what it refers to please?
  20. Hi Colin, When I did mine, I simply had my workshop vacuum running all of the time wth the nozzle nestled up against the scraper. This kept everything clear all of the time. I think that you are likely to burst the balloon with whatever you are scraping with. You could if you wish just stuff a rag in the hole with most of it outside of the aperture, no chance then of the rag being pushed in too far.
  21. If you look at my thread entitled 'Heading off problems at the pass' you will see that following my cleaning of the EGR valve and, a subsequent trip to Lincolnshire I reported returns on motorway driving, at 70mph with cruise control on, of between 55 and 57 mpg, with an overall return of 48.6 mpg. Did you follow the instruction from 'Matus' regarding adjusting 'driving style' after disconnecting the battery?
  22. Do exactly what your barrister friend says and do nothing, go away and enjoy your holiday and don't even think about it. As he says, just be prepared to pay it back if they ask for it. You might just get lucky and they (your bank) won't realise that they have made a mistake. There was a case recently where a cash machine was paying out double the requested amount, word got round and a queue formed and everyone enjoyed the bonanza, there were even scuffles breaking out in the queue but the police then turned up and stopped it all. The bank then announced that they would not be asking for the money back! Enjoy your holiday, but don't forget my stick of rock!
  23. Hi Robert, Welcome to the club. I too am a 'crinckly' and I have had my IS220d for a few months and am very pleased with it but, I am thinking of changing because my eye has been taken by the IS250 and the GS300. I drove the 250 for the first time last Wednesday and was most impressed.
