  1. I think that's it mate ...they don't go wrong.....anyway Haynes manuals are carp. Try this, you'll have to open it in internet explorer if your using another browser as i don't work on Chrome. http://bahamutcars.free.fr/workshop/IS_98-05/
  2. Check the ecu for any water damage it's in a black box to the right of the engine, if no joy there i'd have the ecu tested for any faults by a company specialising in ecu's. Personally i'd just buy a second hand unit from e bay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=lexus+is200+ecu&_sacat=0 Good luck and keep us posted.
  3. I agree that sounds like a head gasket gone, but there is a quick fix. Fill the system and add a bottle of Kseal and follow the instructions on the bottle it does work from experience but it's only short term. Get it looked at asap.
  4. Hi mate. 1st i'd check all the unions and jubilee clips are nice and tight, especially the heater hoses as they get overlooked. Also check the hoses going to the throttle body,if coolant is leaking anywhere it will leave a pink residue when it's cooled down so look for that too plus always remember to top up the coolant from the expansion tank and not the radiator.
  5. Hi mate. Don't go to the garage to get the codes read, they'll charge you the same amount to read the codes than it costs to purchase a decent OBD2 code reader.
  6. It's the old caliper slide pins, take it off remove the slide pins and grease them up with copper grease on both sides. If that doesn't fix it i'd get a caliper repair kit and strip them down and re build them. Good luck mate .
  7. Yes i agree with patrick you need to get the key coded for the vehicle or you'll just be cranking it til you battery goes flat.
  8. I think the part your on about is the upper wishbone and it's easy to replace. Have a look at this on line Is200/300 repair manual, you have to open it in internet explorer if your using another browser like chrome. http://bahamutcars.free.fr/workshop/IS_98-05/
  9. Hi mate. You say the starter motor is slow when cranking the engine, mine cranks nice and fast check the apmage on the battery by drop testing it ie put it under load and see what the output is. Or just get a friend and jump her see if that makes a difference. Another thing i'd check is the battery in the key, i recently broke my ignition key and was left with just a stump to start it with and because i'd taken the other half into the shop i was visiting it wouldn't start without the other half of the key it could be something simple. Good luck.
  10. It could be the Stub axle bushes, jack the car up grab the wheel and give it shake back n forth if it's the bushes you'll hear the clunking.
  11. Hi mate. I had the same sound from my old engine it turned out to be the springs on the throttle body. Open the bonnet and rev the engine by turning the wheel on the body and see if the springs rattle around.
  12. Yes they're a lot more comfortable especially on a long run and as they come out of a 2005 model they feel like new. I spent this morning cleaning the door cards before i fitted them and that was easy too.
  13. Quick update on the leather interior. Got up to Sheffield and no way on earth was i getting an interior into the interior of my car,so out came the back & front seats that was easy enough, fitted them in just a few bolts and fiddly little bits of plastic and i was away........not. It turns out the seat belt locking mechanism was a different size to my existing seat belts so i had to take the front seats out again and swap over the catches. That was the only pitfall i came across. If your quick there's some front and rear seats in a Biffa waste bin behind a Little Chef somewhere in the Midlands.
  14. I'll be picking them up this friday 09/03/12 from sheffield all doorcards are up 4 grabs. I'm heading south west so if anyone wants some of my interior it's free, or it's only going in the skip.
  15. Thanks for the reply. Yes the rear bench is yours if you PM me your details we can sort it out. Cheers.
  16. Hi everyone. I'm changing my interior from the half leather to full are there any pitfalls tips etc when removing ??? The old interior will be up for free to a good home next week when i've fitted the new one there's nothing wrong with it ......it's just not full leather. Thanks. P.S the fronts are heated.
  17. As far as i know the heated seats are only on when the ignition is on, i keep both mine on as i like a nice warm seat on the way to work so both buttons are on and left on. I've never had any battery drain from leaving the seats on the only way that would happen is if you left the keys in the ignition and turned it so you get power. Go to a garage and have your battery "drop tested" that will give you an ampage level. good luck.
  18. I don't think Lexus made an is300 manual i might be wrong !! i'd stick with the auto, i love auto's as i'm a right lazy sod but then i like manuals too so i know where your coming from. A nice 3.0 with a manual, traction control off ........nice.
  19. Sounds like the clutch, has your fuel consumption increased ?? if so that's a good indicator that you have a problem. What sort of mileage has the car done as the mass flywheel maybe on it's way out.
  20. I got a blank 3 button shell cut at Timpsons in Haverford west £25.00 it worked perfectly i just swapped the gubbins from the old key to the new.
  21. Hi mate. In my experience LPG is a royal pain in the rear, it burns hotter than petrol so you need a good set of iridium plugs plus there's so many other things that can go wrong. If you do decide to convert don't go for the "cheap fit it all in one day jobbie" LPG is nasty stuff with a large expansion rate and the system needs to be tested and checked over a 5 to 7 day period for obvious reasons. Good luck anyway.
  22. Hi Danny and welcome to the LOC. It's possible but i would be a lot of work, you'd need all the clutch parts and the resevior and the centre gear consul. What's up with the present auto box ?? it would be cheaper to buy a recon auto box and just replace that. Good luck.
  23. Hi mate. I've just done a swap but for a replacement 1G-FE unit with lower mileage, we managed to swap them over in 7 hours. I would have thought it would be straight forward enough with the right tools. Keep us posted
  24. Hi mate. It sounds like sticking slide pins on the brake calliper it's a common problem. Just remove the calliper remove the pins give them a light rub with some wet n dry then just re grease them. That should cure the problem.
