  1. My thinking, is that once the thieves have the car up, whatever is in the way will be chopped off. So, I think the way to stop them even starting, is to visibly inhibit access to lift the car
  2. I found some 50 Watt eveready G6.35 bulbs. With a bit of modification they fit into the original socket Bright enough. Concerns 1. I am a bit concerned about overheating but as the light is only on for short periods I think it will be no problem 2. I am also aware of the law which states the maximum single bulb wattage is 24W for reversing lamps. I
  3. Hi David Sorry I wrote rear door - meant tailgate I dont really know about the underside- looks a bit dry and surface rusty from what I saw checking the brakes. But Lexus have a good reputation for bodywork. Your call about the sealing. Feel free to contact me about the car anytime.
  4. Hi Daveace Just a couple of things to watch out for ( from my 2006 model) 1. Corroded underside of Roof Rack on 400h 2. FSH does not mean all is OK - Have all the brakes checked that they are not seized - in writing. 3. Rear Door has an issue with wiring corrosion. - Get the seller to open the cover and check the wire is not green corroded. 4. Make sure the Aux Battery is checked with Battery Tester. - or covered by warranty. Otherwise enjoy your magic carpet.!
  5. My 2006 RX400h has just started squeaking. 2 Months after the last Service in Derby Lexus. The last of 4 services. I found the rear caliper pin seized solid. Seems to be a Toyota Standard Issue. The response from the Dealer was not good. The other side seems OK but the Bolts/Pins are rusted solid - however the caliper slides just fine. Call me paranoid - but I have doubts if these pins have ever been loosened. I understand it is not necessary to loosen the pins if the pads are not to be changed and if the caliper is sliding ok , but as it is obviously a Toyota Issue - I would have thought they would loosen and tighten them at least every Major Service Dissappointed a bit - if this is a way to generate service business.!
  6. I have noticed that, when waiting in traffic, if i apply the footbrake there is no drive to the motor when the car is stopped. But when I apply the parking brake and release the footbrake ( the car still in D ) the car is trying to drive forward. Maybe it it normal, but why wouldn't both brakes be treated the same? Anyone with similar experience?
  7. Hi, I am surprised that just leaving the interior courtesy light on caused the battery to go flat to the extent that the car would not start. I no that on the GS450h if the battery power drops down to a critical level the car will start to “ load shed “, in other words it will start to turn of non vital electrical equipment to preserve the battery so that the car will still start. Is the battery on your RX the original?. If so you may want to have it checked out, as it could be getting on to being 6 years old. Hi Wendle, thanks for your advice - I will check out the battery on my return
  8. Hello, I have just acquired a 2006 RX400H and love it Unfortunately my first experience with the vehicle was not so lucky. I had a flight from Heathrow so needed to leave home at 0700 during the Xmas Holidays. So the night before I went to the car (on the drive) and programmed the Sat Nav for the airport. Next Morning I couldnt open the car with the remote and when I turned the ignition - Nada. Panic! So I wanted to jump the car using the jump leads in the boot...... couldn't open the boot without power! Eventually found the battery under the bonnet - still very dark outside, but when I started to charge the battery , the car alarm started which is not so good in our neighbourhood. Catch 22 I thought Cant open the boot Cant jump start Cant put power onto the battery. Anyway no choice I started to charge and by continuously pushing the remote Open - the alarm was kept under control. Then I could open the boot - take out the jump leads and jumped using the old faithful MX5. It was then that I saw that I had left the interior light on the night before. This had obviously drained the battery. I was also very surprised that the car started almost immediately so I guess the main battery is responsible for starting the Petrol engine. Although it was my fault I admit to being a little disappointed that this luxury vehicle does not automatically switch off all lights when the car is locked. Anyway - the drive down to London was great and we caught the flight without problem even though I was a little stressed by it all.
