  1. Enjoy Bob! We test drove one in Canterbury and it looked good, our 430 (Athabasca Shale :winky: ) has now 2500 miles on and once you switch on power/sport mode gives you all the fun you can handle in my opinion! Good luck with your new 430! Andy
  2. Did someone mention Athabasca Shale?? Hmmm now there's a nice colour :winky:
  3. Hi Mark, No problems at all up to press, just clicked over the 2000 mile mark today and with a few miles on the 430 has loosened up nicely and when you stick it in sport & power mode it is plenty good enough for me! Never been a big fan of Mercedes but can't really offer a true opinion as I've only ever driven a couple of the big 500 class on hire. The GS is still getting some glances as we drive by and here in Leeds as yet I ain't seen another one on the road as yet, talk about exclusive! At the end of the day it's personal I guess you just have to drive both and decide which is right for you? I'm not at all unhappy with my choice though! Nuff said!
  4. Why wait for ever........ You can't beat driving around in a new GS430 now! Although I have picked up my first speeding ticket in 12 years, erm... "testing" motorway cruise performance! As for fuel economy, the gauge seems to have settled at circa 18-19 mpg on varied local/urban/motorway driving, at the end of the day if fuel economy is what sways it for you then perhaps you need a different smaller car..... Just my couple of pence worth :D Having just shelled out £47K on the GS430 the thought of a more economical version of the same car I already have is not something I'm going to lose sleep over..... and getting me to 60 a fraction quicker is not really a big deal, this one is sub 6 seconds if you really want to push your foot hard down, plenty good enough as some local BMW owners will testify to.... :winky:
  5. We had a similar noise under acceleration on our recently traded-in GS300 SE 99, eventually it traced to an internal baffle being loose within the front exhaust box, needed a new front pipe and box at a cost of £375. Get them checking the boxes for you. It was a metallic tinkley/rattle which got pretty loud at times. Our old GS is now online at Lexus if anyone wants a nosey..... bit pricey though... think we'll stick with our new GS430 :D http://lexusucl.en-gb.r66.co.uk/CarView.as...=2&id=500660126
  6. Take a look here:- http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163294 Just been fitted up with chromed 18" rims, this is 'Glacier Frost' aka Caspian Sky (White/Grey!) Man it's a weird colour but the more I see it the more happy I am that we cancelled and went with Athabasca Shale! PM me ref your pics I'll put them on a link for you if you want?
  7. 100% that that 'Glacier Frost' is the UK Caspian Sky alright, sounds like a Woodford trip would be the best idea for anyone considering it seriously now.
  8. I know how you feel!! We went through this agony over the colour, originally we had a GS300SE-L on order in Caspian Sky but after seeing pictures and the colour sample we cancelled and ended up with our Athabasca Shale GS430 :D Check out my thread on the US website;- http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...t=glacier+frost The US name for the colour is Glacier Frost and the pictures you see there are the ones that changed my mind completely! I really think it is a colour you have to see i the flesh to be 100% sure. Cheers.
  9. That's just it! It's a one-off type mica/pearl finish no other manufacturer has an identical colour and I reckon you really would have to see it in the flesh to be sure! Just my thoughts......
  10. Caspian Sky...... Hmmmm now there's a debate! Been there done that, seen only the paint sample but it is white with a hint of gray to me! Outdoors it ended up looking like primer. Warning: IGNORE the brochure colour square! If it had been that we would have bought it, it is nothing like that on the paint sample and not on the car pics that I've seen either! Now Athabasca Shale....... there's a nice colour to choose..... Yeah, Yeah, I'm biased now ok! :P
  11. Still no sign of an actual Caspian Sky colour car.... Our dealer has one on order I believe due in 5/6 weeks time. Not seen a SE-L yet to comment on the wheels but I guess they will be the same ones as are on our GS430, can't see why they would make two sets with differing finishes really.
  12. Think BIG! you know it makes sense! :D Don't leave anyone in front in any doubt about what's creeping up behind............
  13. Hi John, So far we've not done any distance trips, all local/urban, the gauge tells us we are getting about 18.5MPG thus far, we'll see what we get once a good trip is made! Like you we are getting some heads turning and performance for me is certainly up to the job! B) Not sure over pictures in the forum, I cheated I guess by putting them on my website and just posting the link. Guess I ought to look at the benefits of gold......
  14. Hi! Thanks, colour is great, so pleased we ended up with this one after all the initial dithering! The drop down box soon becomes second nature so not too much of a pain, don't know if you are able to adjust the settings (dealer adjust?) for auto fold-up though on the mirrors. One thing that is quite neat, if you leave the mirror control switch turned on to either L/R setting, when you engage reverse the mirrors dip down so you can see the kerb! Great piece of machinery! Just need a few miles on the clock now before we can really open it up :winky:
