  1. Hi All, Recently discovered, due to the smell of petrol! That one of the injectors is leaking from above, from the fuel rail and or injector seal?. I'm assuming that there is an upper seal on the injector or on the rail (is it the same) Before I get comments of don't attempt it yourself, I am going to have a go & save the £42.00 per hour in the garage & as this is a second car, I can afford to take my time. I've already got access to the fuel rail, but I haven't taken it off yet. What I'm asking is has anyone done this job before & have you any tips & will it be what I am thinking. As always thanks in advance guys
  2. Has anybody ever bought a chrome grille for a 1998 LS400, the cheapest I can seem to find is from the USA, delivered for £84.00. (full chrome, not just trimmed) Thinking of getting one? ............Thanks in advance
  3. Mike, battery cost £103 for a maintenence free, calicum cell with a 4 year guarantee, probably could have got it cheaper on internet etc, but needed it urgently.
  4. The-Acre - I might be on my LS600 by then .........
  5. I changed my battery last week, £103 from halfords, 4yr guarantee, maybe i was ripped off? but I needed it at the time as tthe car was running like a bag of cak. Changed it over with not giving any thought to the ECU etc, but no probs, was a quick change & all is ok now. My only hassle out of it all was taking the car to kwik fit last month, they told me nothing was wrong with the battery, the battery was totally done, .......moral = Never go to Kwik fit,
  6. My WF postcode must be one of the highest then, 40 yrs old, full NCB, clean license, HGV driver = Fully comp @ £670.00 (Ouch!) and I tried all the various comparison websites, that insurance seems very cheap........I'm quite gutted now...........
  7. Well spoke too soon, it happened again,so i spent a good 3 weeks, checking earths etc to see where the fault would lie. In the end I give up & thought, I'll get the battery tested again. Took it to Halfords this time, the bloke in there was very helpful, tested the battery & said it was the battery that was buggered. So bought a new battery & fitted & so far no probs whatsoever..........Thanks for all the help & advice again.
  8. Hi All, An update, I'm touching wood here, but at the moment, I haven't had any trouble since, the battery seems ok, it starts as soon as so I'm stumped. I have checked the earth and all seems to be secure, so I think i'm just going to wait & see if it happens again & get it in to an car electrical specialist. If I find out the cause, I will post the cure....... Thanks again for the replies.
  9. Well, polished & valeted the old girl up, came to turn her over & nothing, just the click of the starter motor. 1st thoughts that it was the battery, but I've had no signs of it going over the past few days. Left it & hour and turned her over again, and a cough & splutter, she started going. Next day, started her up in the morning, cough & splutter & started again, so just thought it might need a good run. This morning, started her up & nothing, just the click of the motor again. Managed to get it going by jump leads & took her to kwik fit for a new battery, on the way there, every time we came to standing traffic the car stalled. Got it in to kwik fit for a battery test - NOTHING WRONG!!!! - The battery is in good conditon & is charging fine, Its made me out to be a liar! I then thought right, I'll still take the Missus out shopping etc & for the rest of the day & if it goes, we'll call the RAC.......... the car has not stalled, has started 1st time everytime - I'm just stuck for an answer to this problem, I know don't mend until broken, but I'm going to the airport next week & I don't want it to let me down that day......... Any ideas anybody? - are there any sensors of any sort that I should be looking at, although why would the battery go flat? Thanks in anticipation Me & Lexus.
  10. Cheers for the advice steve, finally dropped on a vgood 1998 for £1600, after seeing quite a few that shouldn't be allowed to wear the Lexus badge. Utter Utter garbage, why do people think that cleaning the car means its in mint condition (when the cleaning job is a quick once over at the hand wash) I've had quite a few cars & paid lots for them in the past, but no more, must say this is the best one I have ever owned, and its 2nd hand fiesta money???? Its still sinking in.........can't believe it, Pinch me.
  11. Hi, Same problem on my LS - due to it only getting used 3 days a week, it doesn't get time to charge. I've been advised to try a solar trickle panel that connects into the cig lighter - £25 on ebay - I haven't tried it yet though..........
  12. Hi All, I have around 2k-2.5k to spend on a new (to me) car. I've set my heart on a Lexus LS but i'm not sure what year to go for. Also what do I need to be looking for (apart from the usual 2nd hand car minefield problems) in a Lexus of this age. Many thanks in anticipation
