  1. cheers for the reply. I am looking at Vredestein Quatrac 3 All Season Tyres as they score highly in tests, but the largest they do is a 225/45/17, but would that be ok considering Lexus have 245's on the rear?
  2. Good afternoon, i have been looking through the forum a fair amount but am a little unsure which direction to take regarding wheels & tyres. I bought my OH an is250 on an 09 plate & it is running on 17'' rims with 245/45/17 on all 4. I notice it seems to tramline quiet a bit particularly on poor road surfaces, of which there are many around where we live. I have a few questions. 1, would i be better off fitting 225's on the front and keep 245's on the rear? 2, we live in a hilly part of Hertfordshire and if the weather gets bad would it be better to get a set of 16'' rims with 205/55 or a used set of winter tyres for the 17'' rims. 3, are all-season tyres any good and which would be recommended? 4, Has or is anyone in southern england going to change to winter tyres this year, is it deemed necessary considering we dont get much snow, apart from last years. I have read numerous responses on the subject but would like to hear some updated opinions. Cheers in advance for any responses... James
  3. Good morning all. A newbie looking for some advice. I bought the OH a 2009 is250 sel which is on standard 17'' rims with 245/45/17 tyres and i'm looking to get her a new set of tyres for winter as we live in a fairly hilly area and she commutes into London most days. I have looked on ebay and there are plenty of partworn at the above size but i was wondering if it would be better to get her a set of 16'' rims & put on 205/55/16 which are considerably cheaper & i think may suite the winter a bit better than the wider tyres which are on at present. I am aware her car comes standard with the 17's but is it feasible to go down the 16 route. I can get new 16'' rims with new winter tyres for about £539 complete whereas new winter tyres alone on the 245/45 are about £180 each, equally i can get a set of partworns with about 4mm tread off Ebay delivered for about £180..Storage isnt an issue, so what do you lot think is the best option. Cheers James
  4. Hello LOC, a newbie here looking for some quality advice. I am looking to get the GF a car ''Not a new one'' and im banging my head against a wall deciding on which model.. We went to our local Lexus dealer & she really liked the is250c, we test drove the ct200 which i felt was a lot better than a lot of the Press give credit for. We both like the idea of being Eco if possible so would consider the CT,RX or GS. We already have a couple of cars as there are 3 drivers in the family. My main stumbling block is that i dont have a great deal of knowledge about what problems individual models have. The car will be used by my GF for commuting into London (not CC Zone) 3 -4 times a week with a round trip of around 50 miles per day. What is paramount is that it has to be very comfy, with good soundproofing as she will be constantly on the phone (legally) as it will be like a mobile office for her for probably 3 hours everyday. With all your input i'm hoping that you could steer me in the right direction. Being a bloke, i like the idea of a GS450h or IS250, however i think deep down she would like the IS250c as its a bit more Elegant. I live fairly close to a very well known Car Supermarket in West London who has various models available for well below Dealer Price, but would i be shooting myself in the foot by going down that route with a possible expensive repair bill? i could get a 2009 IS250 with about 50k on the clock for about 10k or a GS450H for about 13k with 70k. Whereas if i go down the route of a dealer it will be considerably more, although i'm sure i would get a minimum 12mth Warranty from a Lexus Dealer.. There are various options for us but would appreciate a little honest advice.. I am aware that if we went down the IS250c route it would be well into the 20k mark, but this will be a long term purchase, equally it would be our first ''Prestige'' car we have had, hence trying not to make a ricket with my research. So come on dont hold back, if its a better option to do it on the cheap in the short-term with a possible expensive repair bill then so be it, but point and steer as much as you like. Cheers James
